Rename[edit]

I am wondering if we should consider renaming the article to Elgin Road Races, or Elgin Road Race Course. This would more correctly allow the article to have a larger scope, inclusive of the multiple races run during each year.

The Elgin National Trophy race was not the only race. Often the other races were restricted to smaller classes of engine displacement; they were separate events with the winners being awarded other trophies. http://www.champcarstats.com/tracks/elgin.htm

In 1933, there were two main events: one was for pure racing machines (modern-day Indy cars), and was won by Phil Shafer (Fred Frame was second in a Miller-Duesenberg); the other was for modified stock chassis, and was won by Fred Frame in a Ford. This later race, ironically, is the better known as Ford invested heavily in promoting it. RegalZ8790 (talk) 02:07, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
