Corrections[edit]

The year the Ripley was born in and the year that Alien takes place in were given in Ripley's biography and the Nostromo Flight Plan, both of which are available on the Alien DVD, which means they probably are canon. I've also removed the mention of Ripley's daughter dying of cancer. In the movie Burke never said what the cause of death was. The line about her dying of cancer is from the script. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.214.143.84 (talk) 12:45, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Another thing, Clemens mentioning that there hasn't been a case of cholera in 200 is probably a mistake on the part of the script writers of Alien 3. The dates were clearly indicated on the Alien DVD. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 218.214.143.84 (talk) 12:49, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Gender stereotype?[edit]

I'd like to see a section added on the impact of the character and her role in changing gender stereotypes...never heard this before, but it could definitely use some elaboration. 208.38.59.91 00:37, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

Merge[edit]

The "clone" should be merged with Ellen Ripley. It's essentially the same fictional character, just at a different moment in her fictional life.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 15:38, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

You know what?I think we should merge it.Even though I have no right to share my opinion. -Every guy at a truck stop —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.90.11.51 (talk) 17:14, 28 October 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. Should be merged with Ellen Ripley under a sub-heading. [User:203.206.23.150|203.206.23.150]] 06:15, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
No. Ellen Ripley had a life before the clone, a life extremely relevant to a generation of women (inc. me) so no - the clone is a device, Ellen Ripley is an icon. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.69.187.238 (talk) 21:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
We aren't debating who's an icon, we are talking about relevance to the article, and the clone doesn't deserve her own page.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 21:28, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Hmmmn. To my mind, the clone deserves maybe a page, which I won't do, but Ellen Ripley deserves to not be subsumed into the clone page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 21:34, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Explain how the clone fits wikipedia's notability requirements? She was a clone of an iconic character, so she should be on that page. This isn't like Clark Kent and Superman here, it's like The Shadow.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 21:40, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
No mate, that's mad - Ellen Ripley escaped and flamethrowered the aliens WAY before she finally got cloned - there is no way the Ripley clone is Ripley. I think you are a Weyland Yutani servitor, and I congratulate you on that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 21:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Please understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not some fancruft website. You have to follow the policies and guidelines of this site, and the "clone" doesn't fit those guidelines. She isn't notable. She's a footnote of the character of Ellen Ripley.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 21:50, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
That's great, I'm not a fan maniac anyway, Ellen Ripley is an established character and the clone doean't touch that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 21:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Again, are you following what the discussion is even about? It's about the merging of the clone article to this article. It has nothing to do with Ripley's iconic status, or established history, it's about the clone.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 21:58, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay I've maybe missed something, I though this was about Clone and Ellen, will go back and check that... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 22:02, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Nope, I'm right, Ripley the character isn't Ripley the clone. Not at all. Wikipedia may be many things but innaccurate, no. Ripley the clone is a device made up over a decade after Ripley the warrant officer who escaped the alien. 1979. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 22:07, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

←It's about the article pages. Currently, There is an Ellen Ripley article, and a separate article on her clone. See the tag at the top of the article mainspace. The merger is about moving the Clone article to this article. Your "system of thinking" would mean that we should separate Luke Skywalker the moisture farmer from his Jedi Knight counterpart. Technically they are two different points in the character's history. The Clone is not a "new" character, it's a spin from the original character, and thus it's information should be on this page.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 22:09, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, go for it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 22:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Where's the review of ADF's EXCELLENT novelisations of this series? We may not agree on wkikipeajaness (mostly coz I'm new to it) but those novels... where are they mentioned? and why not? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 22:17, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Are you gonna bite my smoochie if I post bits of ADF's novels>? Like to know before I bother posting. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 22:22, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Why are you posting anything? This is a discussion about a merger. Please go read Wiki's 5 pillars and then come back.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 22:24, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm posting because I thought I had something to add. You don't, you pointed me on, great. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Chandranova (talkcontribs) 22:31, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I agree, the clone page should be merged -- seems to me as though they are indistinguishable from each other except to the most fannish fan. Accounting4Taste 21:17, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
A way to do this would be to post the article about the clone in an "alternateive versions" section of the article, or to divide the biography by movies, in which case the clone would be discussed under "resurection" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.226.255.215 (talk) 11:20, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
I think the clone should get a subcategory in the main Ellen Ripley article. --DrBat 22:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Support merge per Bignole. The Ripley clone is another part of Ripley's life and so should be in the main article. Bowsy (review me!) 12:20, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
Merging to me would just be confusing to the reader, and is not necessary. I am a fan of the Alien series, but not over-zealous about it. So I guess I would oppose this. Coccyx Bloccyx (talk) 18:04, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Merge Um seriously, why are there two?--Marhawkman (talk) 18:19, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
I say keep them apart. The Clone may share Ripley's memories and DNA but they are different people all together. FaithLehaneTheVampireSlayer 15:27, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

In-universe style[edit]

The whole article reads like a biography, with no mention of the movies the events took place in, besides the intro at the top of the page. Apart from just adding movie titles in parentheses, what can be done to fix this? Pooneil 22:49, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Ellen ripley.jpg[edit]

Nuvola apps important.svg

Image:Ellen ripley.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Daughter? Other details?[edit]

The article lacks specific details and citations. For example, in what version of the movie/script was her daughter mentioned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.23.137.41 (talk) 03:30, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

It definitely does need more citations, but FWIW the daughter bit comes from the special edition of Aliens (available on DVD & as part of the Quadrilogy set). --IllaZilla (talk) 06:03, 13 August 2009 (UTC)
Do other details even exist in the canon? Drakkenfyre (talk) 06:57, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Ten Months?[edit]

In the first film, it was remarked that it would take ten months to get back to Earth; however, from the dialogue, the one who spoke mentioned the slowdown time and getting into orbit (I can't remember the quote verbatim). This seems to imply that they would have gotten to Earth sooner had they not stopped and taken the time to (apparently) decelerate, then accelerate again. Can anybody clarify this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.15.127.221 (talk) 05:04, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

Seems like common sense. If you stop traveling, set the ship down on a planetoid, and have a little adventure, naturally it's going to take you longer to get home than if you hadn't stopped at all. --IllaZilla (talk) 05:09, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
Not what the Original Poster intended. I think they were comparing fictional space speeds. Aliens tends to use an older more "Einstein-ian" view of space travel, similar to the Slowerthanlight website. As such, the ship has mass which needs to be accelerated up and down (in space) before travel between stars. THUS: It took Ripley 57 years to reach Earth because her ship and life pod were not "at speed" as the ship was before they responded to the distress call. The Nostromo had to have had powerful engines to get to speed, and most of the ship must have been fuel storage, which is the only explanation (beyond just plain looking cool on camera) for the size of the ships in the Alien movies and the tiny crews — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.43.18.19 (talk) 18:52, 6 November 2011 (UTC)
What does any of this have to do with the Wikipedia article on the character? --IllaZilla (talk) 22:25, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Character Description[edit]

How come there's so many referenced stories and history but no actual description of the character?--119.193.155.93 (talk) 09:37, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Because most people confuse "character description" for "extensive plot rehash". --IllaZilla (talk) 09:46, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Significant changes[edit]

I've tried to improve the page. I've made precisions, and found many sources. However I am french and, although I have done my been, I think I have made many misspellings. Please be kind to correct my mistakes, because I can't do better alone. --Hyliad (d), 00:56, 16 january 2011 (TTC)

the article needs more information on the character being in the alien games[edit]
