Focus?[edit]

This article's title suggests that it is about Jasminum grandiflorum, which has its own article, but also describes three other species of jasmine. I believe that a) the article should be renamed something along the lines of "Mallige" or "Karnataka Jasmine" and b) the botanical descriptions should be merged into the respective plant articles. I'm going ahead and doing the merge. Actually, the botanical information might be useful. If anyone would like to merge, they can go ahead, but I'm not sure whether to merge or not.Laogooli (talk) 23:15, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I respect your observation. But Mysore mallige is a popular name in Karnataka for all types of jasmine grown in Karnataka. This would be evident when one goes to a flower market aany where in South India and ask for mallige. Also, Karnataka is major exporter of this avriety of jasmine--Nvvchar (talk) 14:52, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Patented?[edit]

The article and the source (one india) use this word, but reading the source it seems not to be a patent, rather geographical indication, similar to the protection that (say) the champangne wine region has over the use of the name champangne. Perhaps a rephrasing? Zeimusu | Talk page 23:17, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the observation. You are right. I have made the change now.--Nvvchar (talk) 14:54, 14 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Botanical Terms[edit]

The botanical descriptions are full of technical terms which make them inaccessible to the general reader. I'm going to put in some links to other articles which explain them. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 11:34, 29 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Title must be renamed to Mysore Jasmine or Mysore Mallige![edit]

"Mysore Jasmine" is a very specific type of Jasmine. It has even a unique 'Geographical Indication' identity. Someone has renamed this article wrongly and casually to reflect the flower as just some common variety of jasmine, in the way it is produced or traded within the State of Karnataka. Urgent renaming / reverting of the title name is requested. ViswaPrabhaവിശ്വപ്രഭtalk 16:48, 30 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I see there are other two types of jasmine with similar popularity and with GI comming from same state, so i do not feel there is any urgency in creating a new article until there is substantive information on its notability also more content is available to make it an article in itself !
