Comments regarding legal battles between Riopelle's life partner and children needs editing. Joan Mitchell, who is commonly recognized as his life partner, died in 1992. 10 years before Riopelle died. From what I can find, this dispute is between Riopelle's children and Huguette Vachon, his companion at the time of this death (described in some sources as his widow, although there's no indication they were married, most likely common-law). Mitchell and Riopelle ended their relationship in 1979 (another source says 1988, which I doubt). Huguette Vachon, the executor of his estate, seems to be alive and this is who the dispute concerns (which involves an auction of 44 of his works). However, it's difficult to find anything substantial and since this does concern some living people, I'll remove that section for now. This article needs expanding anyway, and if I find something significant , I'll restore, expand and cite this section. freshacconci talktalk 12:16, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've found two intact articles from CBC and CTV--all other sources are truncated and the archived articles (from the Montreal Gazette and Globe & Mail) are at this point inaccessible or non-existent. I'll do some work to update the information with the sources available. I've also found a good source about his relationship with Joan Mitchell which needs expanding. Reworked entire article[edit]

Reworked entire article in Coldcreation Sandbox and copied to the main page. This article had long been in need of revision. References were lacking, as too, much vital information about this important artist. This page is by no means in its finished state. It still needs much work. Hopefully other contributors will help to fulfill this goal. I will certainly add more pertinent information in the coming weeks, as I will also help improve the French version of the Riopelle article, actually in great need of revision. Three images[edit]

Three historically significant artworks (dated 1948, 1951 and 1953) have just been added for informational purposes. The inclusion of these works should add significantly to the article because they exemplify an important topic from this article: Riopelle's oil painting technique of the late 1940s-early 1950s (the so-called "dripping" which resulted in fact from paint being thrown onto a vertically placed canvas), in contrast to the technique of Jackson Pollock of the same period. Legacy[edit]

Riopelle's life and works are celebrated on the Canadian 2023 commemorative $2 circulation coin (colourized) in honour of the 100th anniversary of his birth. 2022 Montréal Mural[edit]
