Abla Khairy[edit]

This page on Abla Khairy states "At the age of 13, she became the youngest ever swimmer to cross the English Channel when she swam from England to France in August 1974" but she's not in the list on this page. Any reason? Zeno27 (talk) 19:43, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of people were each at one time the youngest/oldest ever swimmer, but we don't have them all listed in this article. PamD 20:50, 29 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Florence Chadwick[edit]

The entry for her is a mess. First column should say "England to France", and the time is clearly for a single crossing.

List is of first swims, yet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Florence_Chadwick says she first swam on "August 8, 1950" in a time of 13:32: this would be her first swim. Also interesing that http://soloswims.com/CSA-F-E.htm#Head does not list this swim of 1950.

The1953 swim listed in the table on this page would be her third swim.

List of successful English Channel swimmersList of notable English Channel swimmers – This title would clarify that this is not a complete list of successful English Channel swimmers. Yes, swimming the channel is an amazing feat by most people's standards, but it isn't enough for a place in this article (there are other places for such lists). Good-faith editors often add "common or garden" successful swims to this list, and have to be reverted. The current list title is misleading as it suggests an inclusive list. There may well be a better title than the one I suggest - and I suggest that the list itself should include a clearer criterion of what goes into the "First swims" table, to clarify that it's not any random swimmer's first swim, but a "first" in some wider category. • Comment. WP:LISTNAME suggests avoiding words like "notable" in list article titles, in favor of detailing inclusion criteria in the lead. Of course, there can be exceptions to any guideline. Station1 (talk) 06:51, 25 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Leaning oppose, only because the proposed title suggests that the list would include notable people who swam in the English Channel, rather than those who succeeded in crossing it. BD2412 T 21:23, 18 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
