Longest narrowboat journey in the world
[edit]Hunting down background (to start hunting down citations); it seems:
- Narrowboats were Unspoilt by Progress (motor) and Unspoilt by Progress II (butty);
- "Unspoilt by progress" being the tag-line of the sponsors: Banks's Beer
- The motor likely had the first new-era Gardner 2LWs, installed by Pete Neville
- The butty seems to now be Star, owned by boat painter Tina Paramore. For the original journey the butty had the letters A.J.S. painted as the name
- Journey from somewhere near Delph to the Black Sea and back to Cropredy Lock
- A video "The Longest Narrowboat Journey in the World" seems to have been made in ~1997, and according to [23]: "The price per video is £12.99 inc p&p. Make cheques payable to the skipper: Nick Sanders, The Manor Dairy, Prescote Manor, Cropredy, Oxon, OX17 1PF or bought in person from Cropredy Stores, The Old Coal Wharf, Cropredy."
- The butty sinking seems to be somewhere near a lock at the Gabčíkovo – Nagymaros Dams waterworks. Cite in Slovak at [24] seems to confirm this "Slovak: „Tu neďaleko, pri hornej rejde, sa mu jeden čln potopil,“ opisuje situáciu riaditeľ Závodu Vodné dielo Gabčíkovo Stanislav Fialík."
- A signed photo[25][26]([27][28][29]) appears to read "The Great Banks's Black Country to Black Sea Expedition" with sponsors names as: British Waterways Canals 200, Evans & Son Boat Builders, Banks's, Gardner, ASD Steel Suppliers, Fitchett & Woollacott, Kabola, Newage Transmissions, Crowther Marine
- Return destination seems to be have been to the IWA National Festival in Chester (1995)
