Acreage[edit]

Although the main NPS page lists 91 acres [1], I have two other NPS sources [2] and The National Parks: Index 2001-2003 list 88.50 acres. These other ones seem to be more authoritative to my eye. — Eoghanacht talk 13:13, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have no problem with your acreage figure, but why did you move that big, ugly template to the top of the page? --dm (talk) 17:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The standard location for Wikipedia infoboxes is top right. I don't claim to know the history behind it. Examples: Altenkirchen (district), gold, Andromeda (constellation). I tried to move the pictures into a left/right combination to make the article more rectangular -- had a dogleg before. I have seen similar layouts without complaint, even in feature articles. Yosemite National Park is a feature article with the box -- Glacier National Park (US) is not a feature article, but has a similar image top-section layout. — Eoghanacht talk 18:18, 5 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Names[edit]

This island has had many names throughout its history. I have a source that identifies Golgotha as one of them. Place for this in the article? Is it even that relevant? I also have many primary source accounts of the island during the Mason period.

If you have published sources, please add this info to the article. It's probably best to put it in the history section is the relevant chronological spot. E.g. "In the 19th century, the island was known as 'Golgotha'." Be careful that your primary sources don't violate WP:NOR. --D. Monack | talk 18:59, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

John Mason House[edit]

The house foundation mentioned as existing in the article may be a little bit of an exaggeration. I saw what remains of the house (it is located on the south side of the island, on the west portion of the Upland Trail loop, there is a sign marking it.) There are just a few scattered bricks around, and you have to look rather hard to see them.

WikiProject class rating[edit]

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 16:12, 9 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bicycles[edit]

The introduction says that the island "can be accessed by a bridge leading to a paved trail and bike path" but the "Public Access" section says that "No cars or bicycles are permitted on the island." If the latter is true, then the trail should not be referred to as a bike path. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.231.219.190 (talk) 02:53, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Access to the Island[edit]

IMHO ist the information "The island lies just north of Columbia Island and can be accessed by a bridge leading to a paved trail and bike path that connects Columbia Island to the banks of the Potomac facing D.C. from Virginia." wrong, because there's no connection between the both island. The bridge is between the George Washington memorial parkway and Theodore Roosevelt island.--Druffeler (talk) 09:34, 30 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
