A fact from Tillya Tepe appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 21 December 2006. The text of the entry was as follows:

Did you know... that the treasure of Tillia tepe, Afghanistan, was re-discovered after it was thought to have been destroyed by the Taleban, and is now on display at the Musée Guimet in Paris?

Mix-up with redirects and moving pages[edit]

I was doing some editing on this page and tried to move it to Tillya Tepe and have, unfortunately, changed some redirects, etc., and created a real mess. I have requested help from an Administrator to help untangle it as I don't feel confident making any further changes myself. Hopefully, it will all be fixed soon. Undue Weight Given to the Soviet Invasion[edit]

Hello fellow Wikipedians! I've noticed that the very first word of this article refers to the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. While it is indeed a fact that the invasion takes place a year after the excavation, it does not make sense to refer to it in the first sentence, as per WP:WEIGHT and WP:MINORASPECT. Furthermore, it appears to somehow create a false link between a scientific campaign, and a military one. While I will remove this from the first sentence for now, I encourage a fellow Wikipedian to add a section regarding the implications of the war on the excavation efforts, which is of course worthy of discussion in this article. "Tillya Tepe" name Turcic in origin?[edit]

Hello again Fellow Wikipedians! On an another matter, the I've noticed that the title is only transliterated from Persian -- however, If I am not mistaken, both Tilya and Tepe are old Turkic words by origin -- "Tepe" means "Hill" in nearly all Turkic languages in existence(First known use: circa A.D. 735, the Orkhon inscriptions: "teŋri tepesinte tutup yügerü kötürmiş" [Modern Turkish: "Tanrı tepesinden tutup yukarı kaldırmış"]). And while "Tilya" is lost in Modern Turkish for instance, it too is of Old Turcic origin, and still means "Gold" in Modern Uzbek/Özbek.
