Untitled[edit]

I think this page should be renamed to Timeline of the Eastern Cherokee Nation. It contains many entries outside the scope of the Cherokee Removal.

I think it should be renamed as well. Maybe it should just be named Timeline of Cherokee History. It doesn't make much sense as it is, encompassing all historical events believed to relate to Cherokee history (and taking some in which scholars believe are related to Mississippian-culture villages, not Cherokee.) If it is supposed to relate more directly to removal, perhaps it should be limited to 19th century events, as one type of chronological boundary.Parkwells (talk) 16:10, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A timeline is supposed to have a short summary of major events, not everything that happened, with the names and relationships of every minor player. While there is terrific information here, I think there is too much detail here for it to be useful to most readers. In addition, it now includes content related to removal of all the other southeast tribes, which should be a different Timeline. It is dominated by Cherokee events, but tries to cover too much.Parkwells (talk) 17:01, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Recommend that editors use the greater level of detail in specific articles relating to events, or major political figures - not appropriate for a timeline. This would be more useful if it only contained content related to the Cherokee, and that has to be made more concise and needs references. That too, but it focuses on the progressive migration of the Cherokee from east to west, and perhaps from north to south, aka "removal". And it already has numerous references; I believe you mean in-line citations.

I can see what you are intending, but suggest you should limit it to the Cherokee, or change the header. If you want to present all the SE tribes, then you have to do something else that provides much more balance, as this has way too much material on the Cherokee to be a "Timeline of Removal of Five Civilized Tribes," for instance. Also, if you're going to have so much historic material, maybe you should stop with Removal. Have a different timeline for "Cherokee Nation after Removal."Parkwells (talk) 21:16, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I was starting out doing that, but when I did could see that certain outside events directly impacted events within the Cherokee Nation. It would be equally misleading to either exclude them entirely or to include TMI. Chuck Hamilton (talk) 21:23, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Timeline of Cherokee removal → Timeline of Cherokee history – As discussed in the above section, the scope of this article goes beyond Cherokee removal. Future of the Timeline[edit]

This is a beautifully written timeline, especially the parts including the Cherokee Nation post-removal. Thanks you Natty4bumpo for the hard work you put in to this article. I have added a few items and want to expand on some material but take nothing away from what you have already written. I know the concern was adding too much information was a bad thing but I believe, like you did, that clear and concise information is never a bad thing.
