Television Specials

Hi. I have noticed that the Cast and characters section for this artical appears to be missing some icarnations, Yes. We DONT need the Toy Story attractions actors OR the ones for the Toy Story Toons cast, as we already have articals explaining both of those things. But i feel like that the C&C section needs to to contain the Toy Story Television Specials, Toy Story of Terror! and Toy Story That Time Forgot. I will be aadding those things to the articals C&C section very soon. If anybody has any obejections. Feel free to reply to this section or leave me a positive message on my talk page at Zucat (talk) 02:14, 21 December 2014 (UTC). Thank you.

Toy Story (franchise)Toy Story franchise

  • Parenthetical disambiguation unnecessary, this article and others refer to the franchise as the "Toy Story franchise", not as simply "Toy Story". Target already exists as redirect —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:00, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
  • Oppose The current name sounds better, as it is not literally called "Toy Story franchise". The parentheses distinguish this article from the article on the movie. If there was a Toy Story book that came out first, the first movie article would be "Toy Story (film)" not "Toy Story film". This is how every franchise article on Wikipedia I've ever seen works. --WikiDonn (talk) 04:28, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

Article improvements

Almost every section on this page has been tagged as needing expansion (except the "Toy Story" section) and is it really neccesary to have this big table on the characters appearences and voice actors? It is kind of confusing and I don't see that on other film franchise pages. trainfan01 8:51 5 July 2010 —Preceding undated comment added 15:09, 5 July 2010 (UTC).

Reverting of Sid

I keep trying to remove Sid from the Toy Story 3 section in the table, because there is no official confirmation that the garbageman is indeed him (even though he weears a black and white skull T shirt), and it keeps getting reverted (And NO Youtube is not the place for for third party sources (as mentioned in a revision of this edit). This has been happening as well on the Toy Story 3 page. This reverting is to end now until it is officialy confirmed. trainfan01 9:40, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

Yes, YouTube is not generally an allowable source. In this case, it is an interview with the director of the film, where the director is specifically answering the question of "is it sid". It is literally straight from the filmmaker's mouth. SpikeJones (talk) 03:43, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Right, I should add that question source if you can provide me the link. trainfan01 20:57, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

I have added the link to the characters page. trainfan01 20:57, August 14, 2010 (UTC)

Cast and Characters Section

I feel the "Cast and Characters section" is very cramped. Perhaps we could use acronyms instead of full names. Suggestions and solutions are welcome from everyone. Nirinsanity 11:22, 3 September 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nirinsanity (talkcontribs)

Toy Story 4

Pixar said they're not doing a Toy Story 4 right now. Yet, pepole just LOVE to add it. It is possible that a Toy Story 4 will come out but it hasn't been confirmed yet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.64.182.93 (talk) 16:10, 15 February 2011 (UTC)

I've heard on Twitter that a) Toy Story 4 is happening and b) Toy Story 4 is not happening. Where can we get reliable info for this? And should we perhaps lock the page till official word comes? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thejavadrinker (talkcontribs) 00:04, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Characters and films

You should add Bonnie Anderson in the character section and put Hawaiian Vacation in a new section shorts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.240.189.12 (talk) 02:19, 28 June 2011 (UTC)

Good Article Status

Toy Story (franchise) is already a good article on the Polish Wikipedia. I think we should borrow some information and sources to improve this English Wikipedia's Article's status for GA status. (New Living Wiki Editor (talk) 01:18, 11 March 2012 (UTC))

You mean the Russian article? Yeah, it does have a lot of information about the production - even more than the individual Russian Toy Story pages have. But everything that is on the Russian franchise page is also on the individual English pages. I don't believe in duplicating too much information as it makes it harder to manage and keep in sync all versions, but that is only my opinion. What could be added instead? Something that is in common with most of the films. For example, Shrek has this "Shrek's law" which says that the the computational demands to render the films have been doubled with each Shrek film.--Carniolus (talk) 12:23, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Toy Story 4 heading

I have a big concern that people will think that it is unknown not only whether TS4 is going to be released, but also if it is released, it is unknown whether it will be titled Toy Story 4 or Toy Story 3A. Any arguments that support this statement?? Georgia guy (talk) 15:45, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

I revised the heading to simply say "Future projects". This is much more generic, and simply covers what might be coming in the Toy Story franchise in the future, be it more shorts like Small Fry, another feature film, a spin-off film series or any number of other possibilities. That should clear up the (quite accurate) naming concern you have. --McDoobAU93 15:50, 19 July 2012 (UTC)

Partysaurus Rex

Any opinions on what is needed before Partysaurus Rex can have its own article?? Georgia guy (talk) 15:24, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

I don't think there are any reasons against the new article. The short will be released in one month, so it must be completed by now or will be really soon. And, if the other two shorts can have their own articles, then this one can have it too. But maybe we should reconsider and make one article for all Toy Story Toons. Similar to Cars Toons: Mater's Tall Tales.--Carniolus (talk) 16:17, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Toy Story Treats

There should be a page/section talking about the series of shorts following the release of the first movie. --Smartie2thaMaxXx (talk) 21:21, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

Toy Story 4 is set for relase in 2015 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.98.167.114 (talk) 19:54, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

That's very unlikely given how not-so-distant in the future 2015 is and the fact that it's not officially planned. I doubt that Toy Story 4 will be released until at least 2017. Georgia guy (talk) 20:40, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Spring 2013

The Toy Story Toons section says:

Two new shorts are in development; one will be released in Spring 2013. It's the spring of 2013 now! Can anyone update this?? Georgia guy (talk) 18:43, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

Toy Story: the movie.

Unfortunately, this is not the place for speculation or rumor. If you have reliable proof that Pixar and Disney are planning a fourth Toy Story film that will restart the franchise, please provide that. Without that proof, such speculation or wishful thinking doesn't belong in an encyclopedia article. --McDoobAU93 18:27, 9 June 2013 (UTC)

Unnecessary voices of Toy Story attractions

Is it really necessary to display the voices of the characters in the attractions (Buzz Lightyear attractions and Toy Story Midway Mania!) in the table? Even the name of the section is Film series. So why are the voices of the attractions also included? I will be removing these sections shortly if no objections are raised. NiRinsanity 07:43, 16 March 2014 (UTC)

Editing This Page

Hi Everyone,

As part of a course me and some of my colleagues are part of, we have decided to help edit this Wikipedia page. Our course webpage is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_Program_talk:Cornell_University/Online_Communities_(Fall_2014). My group's usernames are as follows: User: Jordan Wech, User: Vmd26, and User: KieranKinnare

  • Current Section Expansion:

We will try to expand the “Impact” section of the page. There are a lot of social implications of Toy Story in mainstream culture that we would like to highlight. The social media and marketing strategies used to promote the movies were also groundbreaking as well. We will try to expand upon the “character” section to not only include the character bio but also comments from interviews from the creators and actors behind each character. These comments can provide readers with an added layer of information about the characters in the story.

  • New Threads

We would also like to expand on new threads as well. While some of the conspiracy theories may be outlandish, it may be noteworthy to add some of the more popular ones.

Some Recent Articles that we believe are relevant and we could add info from are below:

http://mashable.com/2011/02/18/toy-story-3-social-media/
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/toy-story-4/

Feedback from instructor

Interesting choice for an article to expand. Some suggestions:
  1. Take care in organizing and formatting your edits, even on the talk page. This includes indentations, headings, bullet points, and links to other pages/sources. This will make it easier for others to understand and evaluate your contributions.
  2. Find reliable sources: huffington post is reliable, but I am not sure about whether kotaku is a good source for encyclopedic articles. Are there academic papers related to Toy Story?
  3. Not sure you should expand on the characters - each of these has their own Wikipedia page.
Happy editing! LeshedInstructor (talk) 18:14, 11 September 2014 (UTC)
Please add the course assignment template at the top of this talk page. Thank you. LeshedInstructor (talk) 16:49, 15 September 2014 (UTC)

Is this information (if anyone has it) noteworthy by Wikipedia's standards?

As i recall, Woody's damaged arm was noticeably larger than the other after it was repaired at the end of Toy Story 2, but i can't remember if it was noticeably larger in Toy Story 3 or Toy Story of Terror! (i could not find any mention one way or the other when i searched for the word "arm" in the various relevant articles.)) It's nothing plot relevant, but some of us appreciate continuity/errors--what's the Wikipedia community say about mentioning these kinds of details?

On another subject, does anyone know (verifiably) whether or not the title "Toy Story" was a deliberate play on the phrase "toy store" (change the last letter), or if that was just a happy coincidence? (This time i searched for the word "store".)

--72.85.60.84 (talk) 08:30, 4 November 2014 (UTC)

  • For the arm remark, I think it falls under WP:TRIVIA; it's an interesting point, I'd agree, but not one that is really encyclopedic, and it wasn't a massively notable mistake (unlike the legendary James Bond error, where the car entered on one side of the wall, and then comes out on the other). For the second, I'd imagine it's just a coincidence; I can't remember Pixar's guys saying anything different when they've been interviewed about their films. Franchise passing

The Madagascar franchise passed up the Toy Story franchise so the Toy Story franchise is the fourth highest-grossing franchise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.15.46.27 (talk) 17:26, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

  • You still need a source for that frankly very dubious assertion. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 17:43, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
  • What kind of source do you need for that? You can look up on the highest-grossing animated films on the franchise section and on the highest-grossing films on the franchise section. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.15.46.27 (talk) 21:43, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

toy story treats

can we have a list of toy story treats shorts — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.102.93.78 (talk) 22:04, 8 December 2014 (UTC)

ALL toys in the universe are alive...

The following sentence appears in the lede: "The franchise focuses on a group of toys that secretly come to life and end up unexpectedly embarking on life-changing adventures". I think people could infer that the franchise is about some toys which magically come to life - as though that were unusual in the universe being portrayed - rather than being about a specific group of toys in a universe in which ALL toys are actually alive. Does that make sense? I'm very tired! Basically what I'm saying is that in the first movie we discover that toys are alive but that they hide that information from us. Once we have learnt that, the movies then focus primarily on the toys of one specific child - Andy - but the sentence above implies that ONLY Andy's toys have come to life? FillsHerTease (talk) 11:25, 22 February 2015 (UTC)

Done After examining the lede, I have to agree that your objection is quite valid. I have rewritten the second sentence and split the first paragraph. For readability I have also split the third paragraph. The lede is now more accurate, informative and has better flow. Jusdafax 22:12, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

– After four films, three short films, two animated series, numerous video games (including crossover appearances), a direct-to-video film, five theme park attarctions, two television specials, etc., I don't think the first film is the primary topic, but the franchise as whole. Chompy Ace 03:52, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

  • Oppose - In this case, the franchise titled page seems most appropriate setup for this. It falls in line with other franchise articles as well. If there were other "Toy Story" related pages that weren't connected to the film series then I would probably support moving the original film's page.  BIGNOLE  (Contact me) 14:19, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

  • No opinion on this move, but I support that if this RM succeeds, the first TS film should be Toy Story (1995 film). "Film" by itself doesn't dis-ambiguate it from the other TS films. Georgia guy (talk) 16:39, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
