Migration dates[edit]

The dates of Long's departure from Vietnam and arrival in Australia vary from source to source. The Sydney Morning Herald HERE says: "Bishop Vincent Long Van Nguyen fled Vietnam as a teenager in 1979 on a 17-metre boat jam-packed with 147 refugees" and "He taught himself English during his 16 months in the Malaysian camp and in 1980 arrived as a 19-year-old in the Melbourne suburb of Springvale." The Vatican Press Office is quite precise HERE: "Ha lasciato il Vietnam l'11 agosto 1980 per rifugiarsi in Australia il 2 dicembre 1981." (He left Vietnam on 11 August 1980 to take refuge in Australia on 2 December 1981.) Those are just two examples. I think other variations can be found as well.
