My edit just now

[edit]

Apart from the fact that the Wiktionary links don't work in edit summaries for some reason (MediaWiki bug?), I got the second part wrong; it should read, "in British English, 'resume' only means 'restart' ".

This means that an earlier revert of an edit to the same purpose was in error, since the "justification" that "the author [of this template] chose the spelling 'resume' " is false; the author chose wrongly, as noted above (and in the Wiktionary definition of "résumé"), "resume" has a totally different meaning from "résumé" over here.  (This to my mind is an instance of what I for one call "we-are-the-world syndrome"; the arrogant assumption by too many Americans that American ways are prevalent worldwide, or ought to be.)

Appropriate links?

[edit]

Why is "like a resume" linking to WP:COI? Articles can be written that way for example by including a full list with hundreds of publications, which make the article look like, umm..., a resume, but don't necessarily mean they were written by someone with a COI. Also, why is "encyclopedic" linking to WP:BLP, shouldn't it link to WP:NOT? Tijfo098 (talk) 18:41, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I created the WP:NOTCV link. Tijfo098 (talk) 18:49, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I have used this template often, and only now I realized it links to COI. I always thought it meant an article that is structured like a resume - dry prose, likely bullet points linking positions held/dates, etc. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:14, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For Sections?

[edit]

Any chance we could get a parameter to allow this to be "This Section is like a resume?" For articles that are otherwise fine until the biography part when they list a resume like list. -ramdomwolf 23:15, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

I was just needing this too. Stevie is the man! TalkWork 14:00, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not about COI, or is it?

Edit request

Please change the link from WP:COI to Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not the place to post your résumé, per the (limited, but stil...) discussion above, and the suggestion the linked VP thread. Also, that essay links COI, but is more precise about the problem in question. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:47, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If I may add: the essay in question is still not fully precise about the problem: Wikipedia is not the place to post anyone's résumé, and even if there's no COI or promotional content, typically a problem remains with having bulleted lists of items, which is not how biographies should be formatted. To be fair, the template does point to WP:MOSBIO. GregorB (talk) 11:35, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can we change the link from Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not the place to post your résumé to WP:NOTRESUME? The former essay is not official policy, and is potentially a WP:BLP violation if linked to from an article about any living person, since it accuses them of writing the article themself without evidence. It is also discouraged to send that essay to newbies, so I don't see why it's appropriate to apply it to living people who may have nothing to do with Wikipedia.
