The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance is an undergraduate and graduate institution for the performing arts in the United States. It is part of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. The School of Music, Theatre & Dance was founded in 1880 and is currently headed by Christopher Kendall, dean. Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity was founded at the School of Music on June 12, 1903. Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity's Epsilon Chapter was formed at the School of Music in 1902. The Nu chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, honorary band fraternity, was formed in 1925, and the Lambda chapter of Tau Beta Sigma, honorary band sorority, was formed in 1948.
With the exception of the Department of Dance, the School is located on the University of Michigan's North Campus, which is also home to the College of Engineering, the School of Information, and the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.
The school was named "School of Music", until July 1, 2006, when it was changed to "School of Music, Theatre & Dance". [1]

Fifteen departments make up the School of Music, Theatre & Dance. They include:
- The Department of Composition - Faculty include Michael Daugherty, Evan Chambers, Erik Santos, Bright Sheng, Kristin Kuster, and Paul Schoenfield. Recent Visiting Professors of Composition have included Betsy Jolas, Karen Tanaka, Michael Gordon and Julia Wolfe.
- The Department of Conducting - A graduate-only program. Faculty include Jerry O. Blackstone, Scott Bersaglia, Scott Boerma, Rodney Dorsey, Andrew George, Michael Haithcock, Kenneth Kiesler, Theodore Morrison, Paul Rardin, Susan Walton, John Pasquale, and Marianne Ploger Hill.
