The 1969–70 season was Manchester City F.C.'s seventy-eighth season of league football, and fourth consecutive season in the Football League First Division. This season is also considered to be the fifth season of the glory era of Manchester City, which started at the appointment of the managerial partnership of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison in 1965. In this season, Manchester City won the League Cup for the first time, and became the fledgling cup's tenth winner in as many seasons. They also entered the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, qualifying through their FA Cup win of the previous year, and thus won their first European trophy. In winning this, they became the first English team to complete a domestic and European cup double.
