I urge you to read the novel, set when the descendants of William the Conqueror could not settle who should reign, two generations after him, in a period now named The Anarchy. The main character of the novel is a Welshman, now a monk in Shrewsbury, in the 1100s. The reviewer gave his view, and he was published in the Los Angeles Times, giving him the credibility that your or my opinion lacks.
