Alumni[edit]

Hi Abhinay.leo. WP:NLIST sets the conditions for inclusion of people in lists within articles. While the general definition might be hard to understand, luckily, it gives an example which is exactly an alumni list. It says "For instance, articles about schools often include (or link to) a list of notable alumni, but such lists are not intended to contain every graduate of the school—only those with verifiable notability." The point being, notability needs to be verifiable. Bringing enough sources to verify notability inline is impossible, so, while not strictly required by the policy, it is usually required to do so by writing an article. The survival of an article usually attests to notability. Please don't take this personally, but until there are articles for these, I will have to remove them per the policy above. I hope you understand. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 08:19, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I completely understand. By undoing the deletion I didn't mean to start any edit war, I just thought I'll be able to create those articles in a day (but soon realized I cant :)). Thanks for the suggestions and help, lets get this article in WP:FA. - abhi (talk) 02:42, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to nominate Vinita Gupta for Did you know, do you want full credit for writing it or are we sharing credit? --Muhandes (talk) 05:11, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

summary edit[edit]

Hi there. I thought I'll ask here rather than in the article talk page since the talk page is a bit messy now. I don't follow this. First, the math is incorrect - the numbers don't add up. But more important, the list of state universities list 15 state universities, not 17, and there are 2 IIITs in Madhya Pradesh, Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Gwalior and Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design and Manufacturing, Jabalpur. Am I missing something? --Muhandes (talk) 15:01, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I now realize the IIITs are also listed as deemed... For now I completely removed them and started discussion on the talk page. --Muhandes (talk) 15:13, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Allright, I found the missing state universities, Raja Mansingh Tomar Music and Art University and Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia Agricultural University, which are not on the official list. I commented them out and I've listed them on the talk page for discussion. --Muhandes (talk) 15:54, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
basically earlier count had IIITs counted in both deemed and autonomous, so i corrected that and IIFM (Autonomous) was not counted so added that. so Autonoumous count now became 6-2+1=5 (IIT, IIM, IISER, NIT and IIFM).
for the other two universities - actually i forgot to start this on talk page. Yesterday I found that the Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University was split into 2 and Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia Agricultural University (see this) was formed. Now, it seems this university is accredited only by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (see this) and not by UGC. I'll be looking more into this today, probably we'll find the explanation for the two Gujrat's Agricultural universities also. And for the Music University, its website lists a Act of state government by which it was established but does not appear in UGC's list, i'll find about its accredition. - abhi (talk) 21:02, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
so finally the count was 2 Central + 1 Private + 3 Deemed + 17 State + 5 Autonomous = 28. - abhi (talk) 21:02, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I think I fully understand the situation now. I think we should not add any of the questionable ones until we have consensus, and any institute not on the lists sourced in the lead is by definition questionable. IIFM for example is not listed in the autonomous list, so we should discuss it too.
As a side note, I'm going on vacation (well, a conference, so half work) for about two weeks, so I wont be able to contribute as much. Have fun! --Muhandes (talk) 05:15, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Operations research conference in Australia. Sounds interesting. Have a nice trip! - abhi (talk) 16:51, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Women's history editathon[edit]

Hey - Sorry for the late notice, but since you have yourself tagged as living in the Bay Area, I thought you might appreciate notification that we’re having an event Saturday! It’ll be held at Hoyt Hall, an all-women's house of the Berkeley Student Cooperative from 3 to 6 pm tomorrow. The main event page is here. Anyone is welcome to show up, but we’re expecting a significant number of people to come who have literally never edited Wikipedia before. If you’re an experienced Wikipedian who would be able to provide useful help to some of the newbies, your presence would be especially appreciated (and it might be a good idea for you to show up at 2 or 2:30 instead of three. Thanks, Kevin Gorman (talk) 01:59, 6 April 2013 (UTC) I’m AWB’ing this message to all Wikipedians who have tagged themselves in the bay area. I’m sorry if the message isn’t of interest to you; feel free to delete it. I’ll be unlikely to send future messages in a similar way, but if really don’t want to receive future messages of this sort, please let me know. [reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:59, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
