Adoption[edit]

Hi, I saw on your userpage that you wished to be adopted. I am willing to help, but would you prefer an informal mentorship where you can ask questions whenever you want, or would you prefer a ten-ish lesson course in which I give you stuff to read, test you on and have a Q-and-A? First and foremost, thank you for reacting to my request to be adopted. As to your question, I suppose that would depend on what the contents of said about-ten-lessons course are. If they mainly focus on the how-to, certainly. If they focus for a good part on matters like MOS, proper conduct, policies and guidelines, I think I'd prefer a more informal mentorship, because I've spent enough time reading on wiki to know the basics there, I think. (Obviously, no vandalism, spamming or promoting, but also matters like no triple-reverting, no starting or participating in edit warring, assuming good faith, NPOV, no sock-or-meat-puppeting, etc.)

You did :) If you wished me to run the course, the ten lessons I would give (although I would guess you could complete some of them in about 5-10 minutes, you always learn something new :) ) would be an introduction to wikipedia, wikiquette (including structuring discussions, IIRC), how to deal with copyright on a "free" wiki, dispute resolution from informal discussion to ArbCom, Deletion and when it is appropriate, how policies/guidelines/essays/consensus operates, how to operate and write templates (which I suppose includes infoboxes, userboxen etc.), dealing with vandalism, and working the encyclopaedia. I could also throw in the optional "basics of wiki-markup", "copyright old text", and "templates for beginners" if you wished, and if you showed an interest in Good Articles, I would take you through the Good Article Recruitement process as well.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 19:51, 22 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you suspect that I can complete it fairly quickly but nonetheless may learn something from it, I suppose it could do no harm to take those ten lessons. I'd be interested in the optional basics of wiki-markup and copyright old text. Templates for beginners couldn't hurt either, I suppose. Good Articles might be interested, but if I understand you right, we can always do so after those ten + optional lessons, correct?

Thank you, and my apologies for disappearing rather suddenly. Less than constructive, indeed, but I am more sorry that they're choosing to target you than about having to see it. T'was a small joke, I apologise. To give some context TheWormThatTurned was mine and Gilderiens joint mentor. Whilst I did not have the time to complete the course, Gilderien obviously did and now encourages very gnomish behaviour.
