Islam in the U.S.[edit]

Any further reverts to the article could cause either of us to break the 3rr rule. Please read my edit summary in my second-to-last edit on the article. BhaiSaab talk 16:43, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Really? How do the videos support this part of the statement "...have served to project negative images of disaffection not representative of the wider Muslim community in the eyes of witnesses" and why is it that there are only negative videos in the article? BhaiSaab talk 17:08, 11 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Why did you reinsert it? BhaiSaab talk 21:55, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well I removed the sentence - it has no source. Like I said before "the impact of these displays of fringe groups has not been documented and there is no source provided in this article for their impact." BhaiSaab talk 22:42, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So why do you choose to only use videos of fringe groups that an undocumented noteworthiness or impact? In your efforts to improve the article, have you found no better videos for a useful representation of the Muslim community within the United States than that of some extremists? BhaiSaab talk 22:48, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
My personal opinion of them (Islamic Thinkers Society) is that they are, in contradiction to their name, morons. If you want to source a statement about the presence of a fringe ideology like the ITS in the U.S., the use of a newspaper article about them would have the same effect - would it not? I would not, however, dedicate more than one sentence to them because their presence in the United States has not been significant nor particularly noteworthy. BhaiSaab talk 23:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That documentary is so biased. BhaiSaab talk 23:24, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:VidaSamadzai.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:VidaSamadzai.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Chowbok 01:53, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Esposito and Saudi Funding[edit]

If you insist on trying to provide a connection between John Esposito and Saudi money then please do so with factual statements. You know as well as anyone that "he", John Esposito, is not "the recipient" of any such money but that Georgetown University and the Center he runs are (hence your statement is FALSE). Also, stating that this money was given to "promote Islam" is an assessement on your part and not part of a version expressed by either Georgetown University, John Esposito or the Saudis. Please provide a reference if you really want to claim so. The reference you are well aware of [[1]] used in the John Esposito entry states no such thing. Thanks.PelleSmith 04:25, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bad Faith?[edit]

Here is the diff where you yourself introduced said reference from above into the John Esposito article ... [[2]]. So what gives?PelleSmith 04:34, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your response: That's an interesting theory, but what is it even based on? You think Esposito is friendly to Wahabism? I don't agree, but you know as well as I do that this is not even the point. The point is that good faith edits on Wikipedia do not include a conscious misrepresentation of basic facts. Do you have a reference to support your claim that Esposito himself is the recipient of that money, or that the intent of any of the involved parties is to "promote Islam"? Because you reverted my change claiming that "actually it is absolutely true". Then on my talk page you have defended your edit by claiming that what you said "is based on what Prince Alwaleed Bin Tala said". What exactly did he say? Where can I or any other editor see what he said? You are clearly well aware of the reference above as you added it to the Esposito page yourself, and this reference says no such things. Now if you want to know why I care so much about this. Personally I'm sick of the edit wars in which extremists from both sides of contentious ideological divides act with dishonest intent to promote their respective POV. This has to stop because all such edits sabotage the integrity of Wikipedia.PelleSmith 13:10, 21 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You know you never did tell me what the Prince said. Its pretty bad form to go around justifying edits with information you know to be unsubstantiated or blatantly false.PelleSmith 05:28, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Clearly bad faith. Here you go again. If you are going to proceed in this manner something has to be done about it.PelleSmith 14:16, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

hello CltFn. if you make reverts or delete material, could you please indicate that in your edit summaries (and even better: justify it) especially when you are clearly aware that other editors may disagree with some of your contributions/removals? thank you. So is this a recurring problem? Can I second this request and ask you not to just revert several good edits without so much as an explantion as you did here [3].PelleSmith 23:21, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gabriel[edit]

I don't want to get in an edit war over this. I hope we can find common ground. I think it is clear that some of the material in her biography needs sourcing beyond her own words. The problem is the article expresses her anecdotes as fact while they may be true they need to be backed up with more then just her story. I support Israel completely but if you let a pro Israeli person have these kinds of unsupported anecdotes on their page then an anti Israeli figure can have unsupported anti-Israeli anecdotes on their page which to me is not a good thing. I am going to return the article to the shortened state. Please discuss how we can come to agreement on this, I am not "blanking" with an agenda. Daniel J. Islam in the United States[edit]

CltFn, I've looked over some of the discussion and edit history of the page and I now see that there seems to be an ongoing dispute between you and several other editors of the page regarding changes to the page structure and so on. Even if you have these issues with the page simply reverting changes wholesale to previous versions is not constructive. If the entry is to become better in terms of its factual accuracy and its structure, edits need to be dealt with individually. Personally I like to seperate different edits to make that easier--as I did. Now all I'm asking is for you to look at these edits seperately and to explain the problems with any of them, or else refrain from reverting them under some blanket revert to an older version. All i did was try to improve on the factual accuracy, the sentence and paragraph structure, and in one instance the NPOV of the article as it was when I saw it. Thanks.PelleSmith 16:00, 29 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok well revert wars are rarely productive, and they frequently undermine the efforts of editors who are not part of them, because warring editors just keep on reverting to their own favorite versions instead of taking into account possibly good changes. Thank you for at least aknowledging that I had some good edits. Also simply reverting to a previous version is the lazy way of trying to accomplish something like keeping NPOV. If an editor is not willing to take the time to understand the edits of others before acting upon them then maybe they don't have the time to edit on that page. Lets not undermine the project of wikipedia because of a squabble.PelleSmith 12:15, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image sourcing[edit]

You have stopped sourcing the images again. Most of them are not your own scans and for the screenshots--you don't mention what they are from... and they don't appear to be clean DVD captures... you have to source your stuff. We've been over this many times. Please go back and do that for all of your new uploads... it should be a matter of habit by now. gren グレン 09:54, 30 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's fine that you take them from divx rips you have (I think). And, that's what I figured... but, you have to put it on the page since everyone needs to know--just not me. No harm done, just wanted to make sure you didn't forget :) --gren グレン 06:17, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

WikiIslam[edit]

Hi CltFn. It great to see that you are still doing a lot of much needed work around here! Please keep up the good work.

One thing that I thought that I would mention to you, is this new project that is using the Wikimedia software: http://www.wikiislam.org/index.php/Main_Page . Hopefully the project will grow and expand and become a great source of information regarding Islam in the near future. I don't know if you have noticed it already, and I don't know of you are interested in something like that, but still I thought I would just let you know about it. -- Karl Meier 18:24, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure about your recent addition to the entry, however I have not reverted it. Please respond to the comment on the talk page. Thanks.PelleSmith 03:22, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: I have reverted sections of the addition that were false (see below) and/or that in accordance with the wikilinks and the reference showed no connection to Islam.PelleSmith 03:58, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Can I also implore you to either read your sources a bit better OR to refrain from willfully putting up false information in the entry which ever one of the two it was you did here, when you wrote "To date over 168 Muslims in the US have been charged since Sept. 11, 2001, in connection with terrorism or terrorism-related investigations". We will all benefit from a little more care taken in editing. Thanks.PelleSmith 03:55, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Do you know what happened to the article about that? Arrow740 05:54, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You should put it up for CfD if you're going to remove it from articles. If it's not deleted someone can just re-add it when they want. I am not going to put it up for CfD because I would inevitably bring it into a debate on Critics of Islam too which I think is far too vague to have any meaning as a category. gren グレン 13:58, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you stop trying to remove Scientology from the list?[edit]

CltFn, why do you keep on trying to remove the stat about Scientology from the CBS survey data you put innto the Islam in the United States page a while ago? And I'm not asking about the video, i'd rather stay clear of that debate. But its annoying when you keep on removing the Scientology figure. Its part of the survey data. Don't remove it again please. Have a good one.PelleSmith 17:39, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

deletion sorting[edit]

Personally I find Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Islam incredibly useful. Votestalking can take place in any manner. If there is not a centralized place, those who want certain articles deleted will still communicate with each other. But I won't be "in the know." With this system, which User:Itaqallah is so fond of using, I am able to watchlist this single page and learn what's going on the same way that others do. I suggest that we make the deletion sorting page better known instead of deleting it, you know, tell your friends. — coelacan talk — 20:57, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I have also found the list useful at times though yes I felt it may be used for vote stacking but I've found it seldom works because genuine votes end up there no matter what. What we have to do is get ourselves involved more in the Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam so its a place that doesnt seem to be dominated one side (right now it is). I'm trying to correct that. Can you guys believe the List of former Muslims was taken out of the project's page by two old timers from the project? This is what we are up against. Visit this project's page right now: Wikipedia:WikiProject Islam. Do you feel its dominated by one side? I do and I'm going to change this. This is very important. Like they have used this project to organize their activities, we should too. The project is to be a page and resource for organization of action by everyone equally. It can be a great resource for us once we iron it down and make it more NPOV and friendlier to ourselves. Once thats done, this will be a major help for us. I've formed a new taskforce for improving articles critical of Islam. See we have to sense what we have to do and how to organize our activities so we can improve articles critical of Islam. We're not pushing any NPOV, we're just wanting to make articles better just as everyone else is. You're all welcome to come and attempt to improve the project's page and make it more NPOV. --Matt57 03:56, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

John Esposito[edit]

A response to your recent comment on my talk page. You wrote:

John Esposito, heads the International Affairs and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University which is a recipient of a $20,000,000 endowment from Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal of Saudi Arabia [4]. He has clear ties to Saudi lobbying interests and this should be mentioned to put his criticism of Bat Ye'or in the proper context.
As regards to your veiled threats "If you are going to proceed in this manner something has to be done about it", this could be construed to be a borderline violation of Wikipedia:No personal attacks.--CltFn 15:13, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Response:
"Could be" construed to be a "borderline" violation ... seriously? Is that how you are going to respond to an insistance that you refrain from consciously adding false information about John Esposito to wiki entries? You know as well as I do that "something has to be done about it" does not qualify as a personal attack. You also know as well as anyone that John Esposito is himself not a recipient of these funds. We have gone over this several times, and I have even mentioned it in the recent RFC about your editing. How much more clearly can this be outlined? How much more obvious can it be that you are disregarding this fact and consciously adding missinformation about Esposito to wiki entries? Esposito runs an institute at Georgetown University. A Saudi Prince gave this institute and Georgetown University a very sizable donation. Stop claiming that Esposito is the recipient of the this money. It is FALSE.PelleSmith 15:34, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Bat Ye'or, not a historian[edit]

In modern day usage the term historian is primarily used in academia. It is not neutral to refer to her as a "historian". (Netscott) 17:09, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You've got no consesus for your highly non-neutral utilization of that term for her. You can be sure that not only will I be reverting such wording but others will as well. (Netscott) 17:20, 21 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I provided mainstream dictionaries definitions of historian and I provided notable references of Bat Ye'or being described as a historian. Can you provide a notable reference beyond an opinion that would support your assertion ?--CltFn 17:30, 21 December 2006 (UTC)

To what are you referring? My pressure on CltFn to stop missrepresenting Esposito's connection to Saudi funding (which is a long standing problem)? Why do we have to discuss that on the Bat Ye'or talk page? It looks like the issue there is with the relevance of the information in the first place. My concern isn't with this relevane issue to Bat Ye'or but with the missrepresentation of Esposito's connection to Saudi funding. Conditional unblock?[edit]

I'm considering unblocking you, but it would be conditional on something like 1/7R, strict civility and extensive use of talk pages for controversial edits.

But I can't quite see why you would prefer that to simply getting a new account; if you stuck to the above, you'd be in no trouble.

Thanks for uploading Image:VictorDavisHanson.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. using accurate edit summaries[edit]

if you are going to revert, as you did on Undercover Mosque[6], then you should label it as such. furthermore, you restored the disputed version and removed the POV tag from the section despite there currently being a dispute over that formulation (which is why i proposed a superior alternative). i believe you are also misusing fair use images, as they become usable only under fair use criteria. that means the images are to be used for "identification and critical commentary on the film and its contents," whereas they are not commentated upon nor analysed in the text and serve as little more than decoration. ITAQALLAH 05:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The images are used under fair use as [Film and television screen shots: For critical commentary and discussion of the cinema and television.] They are commented on throughout the article , but of course you just deleted the section where they were commented on. I had restored a cited version of the contents , meaning that each statement is sourced and verifiably referenced. --CltFn 05:29, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
the first image is used for identification of the documentary. the rest of the images are not discussed or analysed in the text, which is what is meant by critical commentary. as for the contents, restoring a biased version (and removing the POV tag) whilst adding cites for the quotes (it's not the quotes that are disputed) doesn't resolve the issue. my proposition allows for clear cut attribution, you can add all the quotes you like in the boxes. ITAQALLAH 05:36, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Then restore the quotes and the POV tag if you wish. As for the images I will add images that specifically referenced in the text then.--CltFn 05:39, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Now there's an anon editor (possibly Itaqallah sockpuppet, but that's just a guess) reverting the article over and over. A2Kafir 04:33, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes , I noticed.--CltFn 04:36, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
sorry, but it's not me. you're not doing much better, are you, A2Kafir? why don't you address my concerns on the talk page before reverting? ITAQALLAH 17:54, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
CltFn, please do not restore a skewed, cherry-picking contents section. insert all the quotes you like without adding commentary of it. this suggestion was best utilized in my proposal; all that was required was the insertion of more quotes reported by secondary sources. and please do not remove POV tags while the neutrality is disputed. ITAQALLAH 17:54, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Once again , I will repeat , because the topic is controversial I have ensured that every part of the contents section is fully referenced per Wikipedia:Citing sources, Wikipedia:Notability and Wikipedia:Reliable sources including Islamic sources for fairness and balance. --CltFn 22:09, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
yet you do not see how, despite your sourcing of the quotes, your editorial commentary violates WP:NPOV. ITAQALLAH 12:03, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Its not "my" editorial commentary , the editorial commentary commes from the referenced articles.--CltFn 22:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:AnnCoulterNY.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AnnCoulterNY.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Image:David Horowitz.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:David Horowitz.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

Thank you. Abu badali (talk) 19:24, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of founders of world religions‎;[edit]

Regarding Scientology, there is discussion already in progress on the talk page. (which I mentionned in my edit summary). If a (potentially) minor religion such as Scientology were to be included, then many many other groups would have to be included as well, which is why it is vital to ascertain that Scientology has a substantial following. Sfacets 23:56, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

According to the records at adherants.com http://www.adherents.com/Na/i_s.html the numbers seem to fluctuate between 11,310 and 8 million. So there s a huge discrepancy between the numbers shown and the records from which they supposedly got the information. Another source would be needed to back any figure, as it is obviously subject to some controversy. Sfacets 00:09, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:AnMSign.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:AnMSign.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I disagree with the following:[edit]

  • 6. Are my beliefs passionately moderate, humane, and open to evolution?
  • 8. Being tolerant of intolerance is something that doesn't make sense.
  • 10. Blast away at the hardened slag that suffocates religion in order to reveal its golden, beating core.
  • 15. Dogma compels us to cling. Faith frees us to explore.
  • 17. Every issue must be debated. Every last one.
  • 18. Faith is not threatened by dissent. Dogma, on the other hand, is.
  • 22. Is optimism a lack of information, and pessimism a lack of imagination?
  • 23. Is unswerving belief in scientific supremacy an orthodoxy unto itself?
  • 24. It's better to speak the truth, no matter how much it may hurt, than to remain silent about it.
  • 29. Love all creatures because of the One who created them.
  • 30. Moralistic, legalistic religion which emphasizes external conformity and blind following betrays its own highest aspirations.
  • 31. Prayer is about thanks, not about endless traditions.
  • 34. Religion is about how (well) we treat our fellow human beings.
  • 35. Religion often sees God as an answer. Spirituality sees God as a question.
  • 39. Thanks to religion - or my rebellion against it - I learned to distinguish between authority (eg. one's conscience) and authoritarianism (one's clerics).
  • 40. The "Straight Path" is also exceptionally wide.
  • 44. What is a religion if not the actions of those who practice it?

Thanks. --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 23:32, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't say to explain "why", but I'll do it anyway =)

  • 6. I disagree with being "moderate" on some issues. I believe that Aristotle also faced the same problem when some of his critics said "Moderation in everything, including moderation itself". Or for instance, "I'll do murders in moderation, say, only twice a year". And so forth.
  • 8. I think that it depends on the motivations of why the intolerance is there; and also to a lesser extent the harmfulness of the intolerance.
  • 10. I don't think religion has a golden core. On the contrary, I think that religion is rotten to the core.
  • 15. Faith encourages delusion, not exploration.
  • 17. There are some axioms of logic that must be presupposed.
  • 18. Faith is definitely threatened by dissent. Once someone says, "Hey, your illogical and irrational faith is bullshit, and here's why", that definitely threatens it.
  • 22. No.
  • 23. See 17
  • 24. It depends on the subject. I'm definitely not telling the truth to girls I meet about what I fantasize if they ask me.
  • 29. God is Santa Claus for grownups.
  • 30. No, because those ARE its aspirations.
  • 31. Prayer is about thanking God for not making your life total shit instead of just partial shit. It's also a crutch for weaklings. (Problem of evil)
  • 34. No, religion is about how we can rationalize killing other people due to a divine cause.
  • 35. Rationality sees God as a waste of time.
  • 39. The ethical theory of conscience is widely contested.
  • 40. No, there is only one correct path, and that is utilitarianism.
  • 44. A religion is what it is. Not its followers.

Kirbytime, though I try to avoid discussing religion, or asking after the views of others, I am now completely confused: how do you square all this with your professed belief in what is typically considered the theistic religion of Islam?Proabivouac 01:33, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Kirbytine, your explanations are interesting and I see that you are adept at exploring the linguistic ambiguities of some of the tenets I presented. I cannot say that I disagree with your point of view, but this may just be a case of you say tomato and I say its open season--CltFn 01:58, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am a former Muslim. I'm an atheist now. But I still think that most anti-Islam is stupid Christian rhetoric of pot calling kettle black. Also, that video sucks. I got a better video:

enjoy =) --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 05:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kirby, how about this one? Also about your "pot and kettle" saying, you are assuming that all critics of Islam are Christians. Even then, even if the Pot does call the Kettle black, it doesnt mean that the Kettle is not black just because the Pot is black itself too. --Matt57 21:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Matt, I think you're reading too much into what I said. I used the qualifier "most". I never said all critics of Islam. Don't be ridiculous. I myself am an atheist critic of Islam. And also, I don't see why you presuppose I am arguing that the kettle is not black. Do you mind explaining why? --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 03:43, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Kirby, I found it disturbing that you posted a jihadi propaganda video of these terrorists killing American Troops and made a laughing matter of it. Are you a really a critic of Islam? I havent seen any evidence of that in your edits, though I might be wrong. Please show some evidence of you being a critic of Islam. Show me some of your edits. --Matt57 05:27, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Why shouldn't I be allowed to make jokes? I love how you capitalized Troops. Yes, support our TROOPS! Even Snoop Dogg supports the TROOPS!

Or does his shirt really say noops? Or maybe the s is cut off! Support our snoops! bwahaha. Just because I post a link of a video of freedom fighters killing evil capitalist pigs doesn't mean I'm a Muslim. Also, I believe that nothing is sacred, except for logic and reason. Everything else is fair game to be humored. Cheers! (nsfw). --ĶĩřβȳŤįɱéØ 05:50, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you call those jihadi terrorists "freedom fighters", you are a Muslim. Please dont engage in Taqiyaa. It doesnt help your cause, trust me. --Matt57 12:10, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

here --CltFn 03:53, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see any statement releasing the composition into the public domain. Giving away a recording of the song does not release the words and the music into the public domain. Unless there's a clear statement by the copyright holder releasing the composition itself, the lyrics cannot appear on Wikipedia. --Butseriouslyfolks 04:06, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"The tracks on our new record, "Southern Born Killers," will be posted at www.StuckMojo.us, as well as all over the internet for you to download, FOR FREE! You read that right! Download the songs, share them with your friends and, if you like what you hear, let potential new fans know where they too can get the songs for free."

Its not copyvio at this stage when the songs are released like this.--CltFn 04:11, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do you have some authority for the assertion that permitting free access to a recording causes the composer to forfeit rights to the composition? What if the song were written by somebody else? --Butseriouslyfolks 05:47, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to post it over at {{Wikipedia:Requested_copyright_examinations|]] or WP:CV, that would be fine with me. --Butseriouslyfolks 05:53, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Video citation in Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar[edit]

The link you used to cite the statement, "I hate all Americans , and all Jews ,they can all go to hell ...,Death to Israel", made by Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, [7], is broken, presenting me with an "Access Denied" message. Being effectively uncited, I've removed the statement until you can fix the link. Atropos235 21:46, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The video seems to deny access when linking to it directly from WP, when pasted into a separate window it succeeds. ??? Atropos235 21:51, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks so much for your work on 2007 Fort Dix attack plot. I just have two questions: did you get the information in the timeline from the PDF document? If not, from which sources? And second, what do you think about proposing that this article go into WP:ITN? Keep up the good work :) GracenotesT § 23:43, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I got it from the PDF document , as a matter of fact most of my info came from there. Also Michele Malkin has done a great job of assembling a lot of infor on her website. Yes lets get it on WP:ITN , do you know how to do that?--CltFn 23:45, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All we need to do is propose something. I'll look into that.
Now, What do you think about merging the timeline into the other text? We could easily incorporate the same information in the timeline into the "Preparation" section. (The timeline is an embedded list...) GracenotesT § 00:01, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We could add the timeline info into the rest of the article but I think it might be a good idea to keep the timeline as it helps the reader to see how things were developing , and there is more to be added to it but it should be up to the group consensus as to what would be best.--CltFn 00:20, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Great idea; it may be a good idea to make sure that the section doesn't become too long, though. I'll be skimming over the PDF, which appears to be a good, reliable source. GracenotesT § 00:43, 9 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:IslamAndTheJewsTheUnfinishedBattle.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:IslamAndTheJewsTheUnfinishedBattle.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:29, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My dispute is that no specific use is explained within the fair use rationale. Saying "This is a book cover in an encyclopedia" is not acceptable. You must explain, in detail, why the image is being used in the particular article(s). My dispute stands until that is met. Jay32183 16:59, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You must say why this image is used in this article. Being a book cover is not automatic use. One of Wikipedia's goals to be free. You haven't shown that the image is necessary. If you can put the exact same rationale on more than one image, it is not sufficient. Jay32183 01:31, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Mufti hitler.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Pepsidrinka 20:36, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you use talk before making major changes to cited text?[edit]

Why did you completely alter the lead to History of Islam in the United States without so much as mentioning it on the talk page first? Your stated rationale is dubious since the text that references the lead is certainly notable. When intending to change the substance of a text the notability of a reference isn't the issue either and you know that. Also, weaselly phrases like "in earnest" don't belong in the entry, certainly not in the lead. I'm sure there is a neutral way to convey the fact that large scale immigration didn't occur until the period you mention. If you think the lead should be fleshed out with more detail about the three periods of contact then by all means do so in a neutral way. If you don't agree with the content in the entry, all of which is sourced, then as I have already asked you to do, please bring it up in the talk page for discussion. Of course when you do so sourced counter claims would be helpful. As it stands I will openly admit to what you already know, that I have little tolerance for deceptive edit summaries. Cheers.PelleSmith 15:08, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Instead of just tagging every sentence in the "Slavery" section with that ugly tag "[dubious ]", how about starting a real discussion on the talk page? I tagged the section as a whole and removed those individual tags since you clearly think every sentence, sourced and unsourced, is not accurate. Again can you bring some sourced counter claims in on the talk page so that civilized discussion can be had? If you don't do so you're edits may start to be seen as simple vandalism aimed at disruption.PelleSmith 14:18, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:GeoffMetcalf.jpeg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:GeoffMetcalf.jpeg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 7 days after this notification, per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. – Quadell (talk) (random) 14:03, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent edits[edit]

Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Stop vandalism the Ibn page[edit]

Stop editing the Ibn Warraq article with your blatantly biased comments. You have removed the criticism section which cites real scholars and added positive things only by people like Daniel Pipes who aren't scholars but authors who wrongly refer to Ibn as an scholar when he is in fact simply an author.

I see you're an Irshad Manji fan who herself is incredibly notorious for her bad writing, terrible research and constant misquoting and use of out of date material.

I advise you to do some research on Manji and then maybe you'll stop trying to put your own biased twists on articles.

CltFn, please address the points I raised here concerning Estevánico of Azamor. Your expressed concerns led me to devote several hours to research on this question, and your most recent edit seems to neglect the conclusion that this work led to, namely: "Most historians now living consider Estevánico an African Muslim. No historians, to my knowledge, insist that he was not an African Muslim."

If the conclusion I reached is wrong, please indicate where my error lies. Your opinion, of course, does not count. Neither does mine. I have cited two primary sources and a list of modern historians, all supporting the identification of Estevánico as a Muslim who explored what is now the American Southwest on behalf of Spain.

Also, please refrain from introducing careless errors into the article text, as you have done several times in this section of the article. For example, "Spanish" should be capitalized. You also introduced an error by writing that "his owner explored the future states of Arizona and New Mexico for the Spanish Empire." Estevánico preceded his then-owner in exploring the region, as even your author, Rayford W. Logan, reports. I am amending your edit and ask you to discuss changes on the talk page first. -- Rob C. alias Alarob 00:02, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

What evidence would suffice for you, if negro alárabe and Fernando Alarçon's physical description (a bearded black man) do not? Do you require a direct statement from the 16th century that Cabeza de Vaca's servant was a Muslim? By that standard of proof, Wikipedia would have to seriously entertain a fringe theory that Shakespeare was a Muslim, because there is no documentary proof that he was a Christian. We are unlikely to get such evidence even for prominent people in the 16th century, much less for a Spaniard's slave.
Alarçon's description, and Cabeza de Vaca's word negro, show that we are not dealing with an ethnic Arab. So how would you account for the adjective alárabe and the ubiquitous descriptions of him as a "Moor"? I have addressed the theory, tentatively advanced by Rayford Logan in 1940, that alárabe was supposed to describe moral failings. I hope you at least admit that Logan was concerned with demonstrating Estevánico's ethnic identity, not his religion.
For all other historians I have read, Estevánico's religion was not controversial. But for you, it is. I admit I am puzzled by this.
I suppose we could state that like other Hispanic Muslims, Estevánico might have been a convert to Christianity, or a Morisco. But we cannot plausibly claim that an African man, born in Morocco, and enslaved by a Spaniard, was a Roman Catholic, and there was no other kind of Christian for him to be at that time and place. And frankly the Moor/Morisco distinction seems like it belongs in Estevánico's biographical article, if anywhere. For our purposes he is only one fairly minor historical figure.
Why is this such a controversial point for you? -- Rob C. alias Alarob 00:44, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"The only thing we know is that we do not know." Well, yes, skepticism is always a defensible stance: See Pyrrho. But I stand by my conclusion that Estevánico's identification as a Moor -- hence a Muslim -- is as certain as any such statement can be about a person who died more than 400 years ago. To write it as a qualified statement -- "that some authors have advanced the hypothesis that he could have been a Moor" -- is in my view a case of WP:UNDUE. Unless you can show me a reliable source that expresses doubt about Estevánico's identity as a Moor, I cannot agree to a qualified statement.
Please consider the following points:
  • ..."if you look at the rest of Estevanico's life , it does not show any indication of practicing any religion , even when he was free." There is an axiom among historians: Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Consider: If Cabeza de Vaca's Relación did not give any account of Estevánico eating meat, should one conclude that Estevánico was a vegetarian?
  • "He did not even change his name from Little stephen." Who wrote down all the evidence we have of Estevánico's life? Spaniards. They called him Estevánico. We do not know what he called himself.
I am willing to go this far right now: "The first Muslim to enter the historical record in North America was may have been Estevánico of Azamor..." Maybe this will address your concern that there is a chance that Estevánico was not Muslim. -- Rob C. alias Alarob 03:46, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I object to that wording because in makes an initital assumption that he was the first Muslim , thus that he was a muslim. Why not go back to the wording I had before ?--CltFn 03:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have explained why: WP:UNDUE. "Unless you can show me a reliable source that expresses doubt about Estevánico's identity as a Moor, I cannot agree to a qualified statement" like your "Some contemporary writers have suggested that one of the slaves in the early spanish expeditions Estevánico of Azamor may have been a Moor and thus by association believe that he could have been a Muslim."[12]
The odds of Estevánico's never having been a Muslim are remote to the point of absurdity. Nevertheless I have proposed one way to address your concern. Since you still object, can you suggest something else besides a long maybe-maybe-not phrase? -- Rob C. alias Alarob 05:00, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Estavanico (Islam in the United States), again[edit]

CltFn, kindly do not break off a discussion, wait a few weeks, and then sneak in your preferred version of an article passage. That is exactly what you have done here.

I find it difficult to avoid feeling insulted by your behavior. I feel angry about the waste of my time and effort on a minor point that only you have an issue with.

I will not discuss this issue any further on your talk page, but will bring it before other editors at Talk:Islam in the United States as needed.

You don't have to respond. If you do, make it an apology. I do not have the patience for anything else right now. -- Rob C. alias Alarob 22:35, 22 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Bat Yeor.jpeg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Bat Yeor.jpeg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. Replaceable fair use Image:Bat Yeor.jpeg
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use
Thanks for uploading Image:Bat Yeor.jpeg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information.
Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. :<eleland/talkedits> 17:50, 11 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bat Yeor.jpeg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Bat Yeor.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Your conduct at Talk:Bat Ye'or[edit]

You've had some rather harsh words for me over at Talk:Bat Ye'or, accused me of being User:Bless sins's sock, etc. What I didn't consider until now is that this is might be a long-term strategy on your part. I have just reviewed the entire talk page, and I am forced to conclude that you have a long history of disruptive behavior there.

  • In October 2006, a User:Aminz mentioned two scholars who draw attention Bat Ye'or's lack of qualifications, and you responded "Like it or not, what you state is your own opinion ... it look[s] like you are only trying to discredit her for personal reasons", with absolutely no justification to support this statement. You have made very similar statements directed at me recently, including the rather rich claim that I am repeating "the same old broken record".
  • In December 2006, under the section heading "John Esposito is a shill for the Saudis" you attempted a crude, McCarthyite smear job on a critic of Ye'or's, to the point of inserting into the article a blatant BLP violation which implied that Esposito personally accepted Saudi payola. When called on it, you fell back to a spurious "compromise" version in which Esposito would be attributed as, "a director at the Prince Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown University which is a recipient of a $20,000,000 endowment from Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal of Saudi Arabia", because, you implied, nobody could "genuinely think that Esposito' criticism is in no way related to the Saudi lobby group that has financed him over the past decades".
  • An IP user pointed out, politely and reasonably, an apparently POV contradiction in your editing of the article, and you responded with only, "Please get a user account at Wikipedia instead of posting anonymously , otherwise one might be prone to believe that you are actually a banned user trying to evade his blocks in wikipedia". Again, your behavior continues up to now, accusing me with absolutely no evidence of being a sock puppet.
  • The same day you were blocked for reverting the article seven times in a short period in order to push an undue emphasis on Robert Spencer's point of view. Back to the present, you've recently edit-warred in an inadmissible copyrighted photo of Ye'or, completely ignoring my accurate point that non-free images are not used to illustrate the appearance of living public figures, since free images can be created.

I worry that you are using crude system-gaming tactics in order to protect your claim of ownership over the article. Please review the relevant policy/guideline pages, including WP:CIV, WP:NPA, etc, and seriously re-consider whether your current behavior is in line with them. <eleland/talkedits> 03:01, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just fixed this one and removed the speedy tag. Fair-use rationales need to specifically list and wikilink the articles in which the images are considered to be fair use, or else BetacommandBot will complain. <eleland/talkedits> 17:53, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Miniatures.jpeg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Miniatures.jpeg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
