Podcasts[edit]

I'm in contact with a podcaster who wants to produce an 'Over the Wire' series, but seems now open minded to podcast other content. It seems like a good way to publicate to me and it might be far easier for us than a wikireader. I pointed out that I'm not willing to create any such thing outside wikipedia (legal issues). Do you know some potential topics and who would be interested in creating such casts? Wandalstouring 17:16, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, i am thinking of a few topics but i really don't think i can participate as i am a bit busy plus that i have no prior experience on podcasting.
Here are some of the topics:

WikiCast: Podcasts[edit]

Hi, Saw your comments in regard to podcats on the talk page of the person I was already in consultation with. Thank you very much for the links.

WikiCast - the free content broadcast isn't WP, but provided content is under a 'free' licence, it can play.

BKLisenbee Advice sought[edit]

Dear Fayssal, Did you look at the note re POV I left on this users page?

His response to proving his POV interest in various pages was to delete his initial defence and to delete the proving comment with links that I had left. In the action box he wrote OK and OK for each deletion. Do we take it he has therefore accepted the charge.

The advice I seek is what to do about the major edits he has done on Jajouka and Bachir Attar in recent days and what should be done regarding his previous major edits on the associated pages including Paul Bowles

I won't do anything until I hear back from you

Abelelkrim 21:27, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This User has been deleting my comments so have reverted them and his last major edit on Bachir Attar. However the page needs other POV removed which I will attempt later.

Abelelkrim 17:33, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abelelkrim. Can you please provide me w/ the differences? Thanks. --

Should I post here?

This is User Lissenbees revision "Bachir Attar is the leader of Master Musicians of Jajouka, who since 1990 have sometimes recorded under the name The Master Musicians of Jajouka featuring Bachir Attar. Attar's father, Hadj Abdesalam Attar, led the group at the time of their groundbreaking albums produced by Brian Jones and Joel Rubiner in the early 1970s. The group recorded under the shorter name "Master Musicians of Jajouka" on soundtracks for films including The Cell, recording with the Rolling Stones the song Continental Drift for the Stones' Steel Wheels album in 1989, the second album of the group from 1974 produced by Rubiner, and the 1995 Rolling Stones' reissue of the group's first album, Brian Jones Presents The Pipes of Pan at Jajouka. Bachir Attar carries on his father's Attar family traditions with a new generation of "master musicians" descended from members of his father's group. Bachir Attar continues to live in the village with his musicians who have recently returned from a concert in Lisbon, Portugal in homage to Paul Bowles held on March 31, 2007, greeted by the audience with a standing ovation."

The below is what he replaced which I reverted to even though it needs work as his behaviour is becoming very poor. Eg deleting my comments and POV edits. He also deleted this link Article refs Bachir Attar history and his drinking eg vodka

See last paragraph for alcohol refs

"Bachir Attar claims leadership of the Master Musicians of Jajouka Master Musicians of Joujouka, and since 1990 has released records as The Master Musicians of Jajouka featuring Bachir Attar. Attar's father, Hadj Abdesalam Attar, may have led the The Master Musicians of Joujouka for their ground breaking album produced by Brian Jones. He was leader of the rhiata players at the time they recorded with Joel Rubiner in the early 1970s. The group recorded under the shorter name "Master Musicians of Jajouka" on soundtracks for films including The Cell, appearances with the Rolling Stones on Steel Wheels, the second album of the group from 1974 produced by Rubiner, and the 1995 reissue of the group's first album, Brian Jones Presents The Pipes of Pan at Jajouka.

This reissue resulted in protests at Attar's concerts, as well as those of Philip Glass whose label Point Music released the reissue. A contemporary photo of Bachir Attar replaced the original painting by Mohamed Hamri which, featured Brian Jones and The Master Musicians of Joujouka. Bachir was four when the record was made and was only a dancing boy Sleavenotes were altered to remove all mention of Hamri's central role in promoting Joujouka/Jajouka and bringing Jones and Brion Gysin to the village. The harshest critisisms were that none of the actual musicians or decendaents were consulted or recieved any payments from the large advance paid to Bachir Attrar. Bachir Attar claims to carry on his father's Attar family traditions with a new generation of "master musicians" descended from members of his father's group. However as Jajouka is halal his taste, as reported, for vodka makes this claim dubious. The fact that he does not live in the village and that only two genuine musicians from the sacred village play with him make those claims rather unsustainable."

Sorry to have to leave in full as I have to leave work but will be back on later. Thanks for your time

A grammar question[edit]

What is the word itaq exactly? Is it a command? Thanks, Arrow740 07:16, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It means "to fear". It is a verb. It can be a grammatical mood or any other linguistic modality. It also means "to listen". -- FayssalF - Wiki me up ® 10:55, 20 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Asalamu Alaikum Fayysal, you rightfully warned an anon based on his personal attack on me, but the personal attack was left alone in the talk page. see here

Why deny that islam is facism?[edit]

do you think islam is peacefull? would you talk normally with people who have 'murder all muslims' written on their wall? did you ever read the quran? do you know that in the netherlands you can (and WILL) be KILLED by MUSLIM FASCISTS if you, for example, make a joke or cartoon about the violence of islam? your name is fayssal. You are from maroko. Why should I respect islam, if islam calls to kill me (a disbeliever)?

islam has nothing to do with freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of choice. Islam is the ONLY religion that, in this century, KILLED people. In name of ISLAM. With the QURAN in hand. With the example of the violent prophet as example.

calling islam peace while its followers chop off heads of biblePRINTERS and well, anyone who dares to oppose VIOLENT ISLAM, is just, well. Stupid. Mid-evil. No offense?

you ask for polite questions, yet your manual (if you are muslim) is not very polite itself is it?

'war is ordained by allah' 'if your wife is not obiedent, beat her' 'kill all disbelievers'

o, is it open for interpretation? you offcourse know what the prophet himself did? KILLING people? ORDERING the death of dansers, poets, slaying complete villages, plundering, distributing the wifes as slaves amongst the followers, fucking a nine year old child, there is not much good to tell about the prophet.

the prophet was an evil murderer, the quran still is inciting people all over the world to violence, and at least some of the muslims do what GOD tells them: they cut off the heads of the disbelievers.

while the moderate muslims are telling us 'islam is peace'

well, the blood of THEO VAN GOGH made us immune to that lie. Islam means violence. islam means murder. Islam means war. why should we be 'polite' to islam? in my country it is illegal to incite murder/violence/discrimination or hatred. So it will not take long before we will forbid the QURAN.

40 percent of the civilians know they cannot use the freedom of speech anymore to critizise the VIOLENCE OF ISLAM, because then they will become targets of the VIOLENCE OF ISLAM. People like ayaan and geert wilders have to live in hiding - like anne frank. On the run, for the MUSLIM FASCISTS.

the religion that most of your fellow countryman believe KILLS people, and that is NOT acceptable.

For reverting all that crud off of Islamofascism. The unsigned comment above, and its vituperative ilk, are contributions of an unhappy Dutchman, without whose partisan and groundless contributions the Wiki is a better place. MDS international[edit]

Cordialement. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 13:01, 25 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Comment osez vous écrire ces énormes mensonges sur le Talk de MDSinterational ? Xingtech software is legally distributed by MDSI?

A comment by User:EdJohnston at Talk:MDS International

User:Jeanclauduc offered this response when User:FayssalF asked him about the matter of the Xingtech Streamserver software. The way he phrased it makes it sound illegal:

nous n'avons fait que changer le nom pour le commercialiser sous notre nom. Comme nous sommes une société française, les américains ne viendrons pas nous chercher et nous poursuivre.

('All we did is change the name, to commercialize it under our name. As we are a French company, the Americans won't come here to prosecute us').

Let's hope that Jean-Claude is willing to clarify this a little further. EdJohnston 15:41, 26 April 2007 (UTC)"

Hello FayssalF. Do you think this IP is actually Jean-Claude, and is he saying that the comment right above this on your Talk page is not by him? In that case he must be saying that his logged-in account has been compromised. Is that cause for an indefinite block of User:Jeanclauduc as a precautionary measure? If so, I'm happy to leave these matters to you, as an administrator. If you do take this step, consider also semi-protecting both Talk:MDS America and Talk:MDS International since the whole issue is ensnared in identity and COI problems. Anyone who feels shut out by that decision can always send mail to you, or write to the talk page of one of the users working on this problem. EdJohnston 18:55, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I worked for a couple of weeks Chemical weapons in the Rif War and had to do a lot of research but never heard of Ciutat participating in the Rif War. Probably because he was a communist while the Rif War was fought by Nationalists. Indeed, he surely was too young at the time because he was still in the Academy during 1930's, a decade after the war was fought. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 20:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Great work FayssalF. I wonder if you have any thoughts as to whether the info box should have Ciutat as a commander of Cuban forces. EJ thinks it should have, but I don't think he was a commander. I also don't think his presence implies that the Cubans were "trained by Soviet advisers" in the infobox. It's misleading and giving undue weight to what was a presence of only a minor clique of international communists.-- Zleitzen(talk) 11:55, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Zleitzen. I haven't found any mention about him being a commander in Cuba. However, he used to be called "Comandante" but that is because he was a Commander in the Spanish Civil War. What may answer our question is maybe what his wife refered to him: rebelde timonel del «Granma», Comandante en Jefe de las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 12:55, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fayssal,

Can you please take a look at this diff [1].

I don't know where Karl has got the idea that Karen Armstrong is not notable. Here are a list of a few of Armstrong's scholarly works:

The Holiness of Jerusalem: Asset or Burden?, Karen Armstrong, Journal of Palestine Studies, Vol. 27, No. 3. (Spring, 1998), pp. 5-19.

Women, Tourism, Politics,Karen Armstrong, Anthropological Quarterly, Vol. 50, No. 3. (Jul., 1977), pp. 135-145.

Ambiguity and Remembrance: Individual and Collective Memory in Finland, Karen Armstrong, American Ethnologist, Vol. 27, No. 3 (Aug., 2000), pp. 591-608

And notably, Encyclopedia of Religon, Muhammad article is written by Armstrong. Encyclopedia of Religion is a famous academic Encyclopedia.[2]. The publisher says:"The first edition of this work was published to considerable acclaim in 1987. For this revising, all 2,750 entries were reviewed. While a few were eliminated, the remainder were put in one of two categories: retained with few changes (1,800) or significantly revised, either by the original or by a new author. These are identifiable by the date at the end of the article. There are 600 new topics in this edition on healing and medicine with an overview and separate articles from Africa to Australia."

Can you please help us in this case. Thanks --Aminz 07:49, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

FayssalF, Can you please e-mail me at BKLisenbee AOL , as I need to e-mail an administrator about vandalism, sockpuppets and unencyclopedic links being added which contain defamatory statements, libelous and other incorrect information regarding Bachir Attar, the Master Musicians of Jajouka, Jajouka, and other places, and showing where talk or discussion pages are being used to defame me in Wikipedia, as well as on the web. Thank you. I need to write you and another administrator about these problems and don't want them posted on Wikipedia. BKLisenbee

I read the article and the user is not mentioned. Bowles being dead is beyond libel. However the user BKLisenbee is a serial POV editor employed by the subjects or the heirs of many of his edit page subjects. His talk page comments seem to claim illegal activities by named and presumably living people. At the same time he claims to be abused in the some way while spreading potentially legally damaging stuff for this community. This seems strange. I will try and contact the site that says they reported this user to the police and get more details. I advise caution.

Email[edit]

Hi Charles. I tried to send you an email but it appears that your email is not enabled. Anyway, as you have participated in the discussions re Jajouka/Joujouka related articles, i thought you may be interested in reading the following email i've just sent to all concerned parties. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 18:32, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi [sic] X.

Well, after the involvment of a few new editors and the status quo re wikipedia articles, i decided to move forward and sort out the problems once and for all. I'll be sending messages to every user concerned via their talk pages w/ 24h. I'll be citing the policies and guidelines related to the issues and ask everybody to work together to sort everthing out.

I will also ask everyone to divulge any sockpuppet account which may have been used in order to stop that behaviour and reach transparency. I'll not be hesitant to carry a CheckUser option if necessary in case no one wants to tell us about their socks. Divulguing socks would not lead to any punitive action from any admin as it is my promise and believe it would be the same promise Mel Etitis would give. The goal will be to stop that behaviour. I am not accusing anyone of using socks but that should apply to all.

Pls note that a copy of this email is being sent to all involved parties who are (in alphabetical order):

  • Abelelkrim
  • BKLisenbee
  • Emerman
  • Frankrynne
  • Theoldanarchist
  • and admin Mel Etitis

Regards

I greatly appreciate your taking on this task, and the manner with which you have approached it. I can tell you with complete honesty that I do not now, nor have I ever, make use of sockpuppets. All of my edits have been under this username. I am more than willing to help deal with this matter in a way that satisfies all involved. Again, I appreciate your efforts.
Oh, and as for e-mail, I had to disable that option because of a pesky editor.

All the best. ---Charles 19:33, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again Charles. I do appreciate your sincere reply and i'll be sending you a message at this place w/in 24h as stated above. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 19:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cloning again[edit]

Could you consider extending the semi protection status of the cloning article? It expired on May 1st. See what has happenend since. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cloning&action=history Can semiprotection be used for an extended period or is this frowned upon? This article seems to be a real magnet for juvenile trolls. David D. (Talk) 20:12, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again. lets hope with the arrival of summer, in the northern hemisphere at least, that these vandals will have better things to do with their time. David D. (Talk) 21:04, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question regarding vandalism[edit]

If I may trouble you for a moment, I would like your advice. I gave an anonymous user (68.239.94.42) a final warning earlier this evening for his continued POV-pushing in the Keith Olbermann article. In the meantime, whilst I was not online, he has repeated the edits, and been reverted twice. However, neither of the other editors bothered to give him any warnings---which has been the pattern all along, because he has been repeating these same edits all evening, and received narry a warning until I reverted him. Should I now report him on AIV, or ask one of the other editors who has reverted him to do it? I know that this is a very long message for a seemingly simple question, but I feel it is important to give all the details. Thanks for your time. ---Charles 04:15, 5 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Receved email[edit]

I have received an email from you today and replied by email. I am sorry to hear of any ongoing problems you are encountering in the Moroccan music articles, and I have not been able to work in Wikipedia for several weeks for reasons I explained privately. I have done some research but I've been out of town a lot and haven't felt drawn to this place.

I hope to help footnotes again some day because I have a lot of good source info now and see it all in perspective better. However, I will not be logging in again here right away, so please send any questions about my private email reply via private mail, as I am not involved in current postings due to not participating in weeks.

Emerman is the only account I use to edit articles about Morocco music matters and related characters, and you may check my IPs and see that my work has been done properly. I described my past work at Wikipedia privately. I have not had time to re-engage here but I hope to eventually at least post a book list at my page or help people with sources and footnotes eventually when I'm more settled. I hope you are able to solve any problems you encounter. Emerman 12:57, 6 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joujouka sock puppets[edit]

Hi Fayssal,

I do have mail enabled so there must have been some temporary fault. I appreciate your initiative to sort out sock puppets and try to clarify the whole Joujouka mess. I wish you luck. I don't have time right now to participate. However, I am pessimistic about the whole outcome as there is a lot of acrimony in meatspace between the two groups of musicians; until there is peace in meatspace, there will not be peace in cyberspace. If you do ever get a chance to visit the village and talk to the two sides, that would be very useful. All the best. P.S. I am not a sock puppet and I have not used any other account on Wikipedia. …for your comments to user:Limboot. I know we oft-times agree to disagree about issues, but I appreciate your respect for your fellow editors, and personally appreciate your comments on my behalf. Thanks again. -- Avi 05:12, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It should work that way Avi. I hope all contributors are aware of the importance of respecting policies. I support the indef block especially that Limboot's behaviour didn't change after i had mentioned to them CIVIL and NPA. I also want you to have a look at this template and give me your feedback. Have a nice day ahead. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 12:53, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your message[edit]

Thank you for doing this. I am more than happy to participate. The soonest, though, that I will be able to add a statement, or participate in discussion, will be this evening. Thank you again for all your efforts. Cheers! ---Charles 14:02, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm quite busy this semester since I do 1.5 to twice as many courses as a student should do. Punic Wars will wait (it is quite difficult to track down some statements like their unwarlikeness that gets frequently reported in someone's histories of Carthage, but that is said to be contradicted in every report on excavations of Punic settlements in the Mediterranean. FayssalF, if you have time to look at this dispute, it would be much appreciated. In my experience Aminz works hard and adds material which is often useful. However, it is often desperately in need of editing, and he makes this process very contentious and time consuming. I am near the end of my wits on how to deal with this. The text is also problematic; as a compromise I had removed the image and placed a clean-up tag on the text, which it seemed he'd accepted, but then resumed edit-warring the doctored photo back onto the article with the assistance of Kirbytime (himself fresh from a block for edit-warring) and over many objections. This kind of material makes Wikipedia look like a joke.Proabivouac 19:40, 8 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey you[edit]

Thanks for adding a picture to the King Armored Car article and categorizing it. How do you categorize articles? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by MKnight9989 (talkcontribs) 13:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Hi MKnight. Welcome. Well, if you are asking about how we do categorize articles technically than i have to refer you to How do I add an article to a category?. If it was not the case than the way i proceed is the following:

MJ-12 and MJ-13.[edit]

I left no fraudulent information regarding MJ-12 anywhere whatsoever. I was referring to MJ-13, a truth organisation. It was not actually ABOUT MJ-12 and is in reference to another article being written now. To tell someone that something is fraudulent when it's impossible is a bit rough. If you had waited for the links to other articles to be provided you would have seen that. I think you may have misunderstood something. I actually did my PHD researching MJ-12, I'm not likely to get it wrong.Brent Loff.

Sorry for the inconvenience Brent. However, we've never heard of something called MJ-13 though i am not questioning your research. Could you provide references as you say that you've done research on the topic? We can't just claim people participating in a controversial and secretive org w/o referencing. Please read WP:LIBEL as well as WP:VERIFY and WP:CITE. Once you source your edits i'll refrain from removing your edits. Cheers. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 13:47, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Protection of the Qur'anic texts in Wikisource[edit]

Hi Fayssal,

I recently got a message from an IP address [3] requesting full protection of the original Qur'anic texts in Wikisource against vandalism [4]. Can you please take care of that if you think it could be permanently protected. Thanks. --Aminz 22:13, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Thanks for uploading your images. You very much look like Persians :) --Aminz 22:13, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amin. Oh so you know my face now :) Cool beans. Wikisource admins are the ones who can help in that. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 22:21, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I think you have a chance of getting (the very competitive) Iranian citizenship :) - Thanks for the link to Wikisource admins. Cheers, --Aminz 22:29, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sarkozy[edit]

Having a grandfather who was a Greek Jew who converted to Catholicism doesn't make you a Jew or a "French-Greek". Rather than supporting the tendentious edits of a new editor who has already been blocked twice for making these kinds of edits, it would probably be better if you edited in areas where you had more expertise or knowledge. Jayjg (talk) 23:13, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the kind advice. You are wrong if you thought i was supporting a new editor and you are wrong if you think i emphasized about the Jewishness of Sarkozy's g/father. The fact is that his gf's life is notable and very relevant to the article. He has gained a "had gained a formidable reputation as a urologist" in Paris w/ a status of an emmigrant. He was a "doctor in the French army during the First World War". He "took refuge at a small farm in Corrèze to avoid being sent to a concentration camp" during WWII".
All in all, there is nothing notable for being a Jew or having converted to Christianity. What is encyclopaedic is the background Nicholas is coming from. Please assume good faith next time. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 23:25, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your edit's reverted in the information the (now blocked) editor kept inserting. The article already discusses his grandfather, but this insertion was only there to misleadingly describe his ethnicity. In addition, you failed to respond to the point about your insertion of incorrect categories. Sarkozy had four grandparents; for some reason people keep trying to focus on the ethnic origin of only one of them, the Greek Jew. It's not encyclopedic, but rather something else entirely. Jayjg (talk) 01:48, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry about the inconvenience Jay. I've just noticed that the g/father info is quite there in place. It wasn't about his religious affiliations at all. I hope this is clear and i'm taking this opportunity to apologize for the misunderstanding. All i find encyclopaedic is that he is a son of immigrants and a son of a persecuted Jewish family Mallah. That's history which got a meaning and a context. This is what i consider encyclopaedic. The fact being an etnic x/y/z has no value for wikipedia except if there are plenty of secondary sources focusing on that- which is not the case here till this moment.
I am sorry but which categories are you referring to? -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 02:08, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Which categories? You inserted categories with your edit; perhaps you should re-examine that edit to refresh your memory. Jayjg (talk) 02:12, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't paid attention to the fact that categories were involved. Whatever the case is (i apologized for the things i am aware of and it is my mistake for not paying attention) my comment above explains my intention and if i'm afraid your tone makes me feel my message was not enough crystal clear to you. If not, i must point you out to my userpage and get to know whose person i am considering being my favourite Human. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 02:22, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MDS America merge close[edit]

Hello. I believe you have been aware to some extent of the MDS International/MDS America saga in its various phases. Following the MDS International deletion debate, I proposed MDS America be merged into a newly created MVDDS dispute article. Discussion about this merge appears to have ended. May I ask a favor of you to close the debate at talk:MVDDS dispute#Straw poll on merging MDS America as you see fit (per WP:MERGE#Closing/archive a proposed merger)? Thank you very much, nadav 23:58, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've commented there. Cheers. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 03:10, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much for the thoughtful comments there. I had thought that a "no consensus" close was possible, but I see now that's not one of the options in WP:MERGE. If time passes without further input, would an RfC be a proper tool to get more people's opinions? Best, nadav 03:25, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Shalom Nadav. Well you can place a request at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Maths, science, and technology anytime you want but maybe it would be better to do it after this weekend in case more input would be brought to the poll. If not put it on AfD and sort this issue once and for all (keep, delete, merge etc...). -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 03:39, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
