Thanks for your support[edit]

Thank you very much for your support on my nomination for adminship. Now that I have been made an admin, I will do my best to live up to the truest you and the community have placed in me. If you ever see my doing something you think is incorrect or questionable, or does not live up to the standards that should be expected of an admin, please let me know. My recent RfA; thank you![edit]

Dear Journalist: Thank you very much for your support on my RfA! I am most honoured by the trust that has been placed in me by yourself and other members of the Wikipedia community. I promise to only use my administrative privileges to assist the community in doing good work, and also to be calm, considerate and careful in working to make Wikipedia a better place. I have seen you around a few times on Wikipedia, and look forward to working with you in the future on Wikipedia. Best regards, --NicholasTurnbull | (talk) (e-mail) (cabal) 01:39, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Need Your Help[edit]

User:Alpine88 is getting on my nerves. I need a admintrator to block him. Keep doing annoying simple vandalism at random pages. I warned him already about it and he wont stop and he just broke the 3 revert rule on Diamond Bar, California. Could u please block him . Ty --JAranda | yeah 04:13, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much --JAranda | yeah 04:21, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just a reminder that the article is the subject of an improvement drive and to try to keep the vprotect as short as possible. Unfortunately, this vandal seems to have a large supply of IP addresses to edit from and disrupts the article too fast for any work to be done on it. Hopefully, he'll get fed up soon. The last 3 hour protection by Minspillage was at my request. --GraemeL (talk) 17:23, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, thanks for reminding me. It will only be blocked for about about an hour or shorter, just until the vandal cools down. I was planning to block the entire IP range, but that seems hopeless, as there seems to be different ranges. Im gonna put an invisible warning in the article though, and anyone who vandalises the article wll be blocked without further notice. →Journalist >>talk<< 17:29, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Good idea. I'll keep an eye out the next time I'm on RC patrol. --GraemeL (talk) 17:35, 8 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks For The Support!

From one Journalist to another(I recieved my B.A last year), I just wanted to say thanks for your support on my RfA. Please let me know if I can help out with any admin stuff! Karmafist 16:06, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

And let me slip in, even though I am not a journalist, to say thanks for your support in my Rfa as well. I am sure I will not be as supported as your stellar showing on Rfa but getting your support is just as good. Qaz (talk) 22:58, 9 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

This one is too good not to tell you it[edit]

An Englishman, a Frenchman, and Elle Macpherson are sitting together on a train travelling through Switzerland when the train enters a tunnel and goes completely dark. There's a kissing noise, and then the sound of a really hard slap. When the train comes out of the tunnel, Elle Macpherson and the Englishman are sitting like nothing has happened, and the Frenchman is holding his slapped face. The Frenchman is thinking, 'That Ebglish chap must have kissed Elle Macpherson, and she swung at him, missed and slapped me.' Elle Macpherson is thinking, 'That French guy must have tried to kiss me, accidentally kissed the Englishman, and got slapped for it.' The Englishman is thinking, 'This is great, the nest time the train goes into an other tunnel, I'll make another kissing noise and slap that French guy again.' • I expanded an article on Ursula Rucker and I have an image of her I want to post on her page, but I couldn't find out if it would be a copyright violation. I was hoping you could assist me, by either finding a picture of her yourself, or finding out if mine is ok. You always seem to have the answers to these problems and I would deeply appreciate it.

P.S. I do watch Family Guy on occasion, but I'm more of a Simpson's, South Park, and Fairly Odd Partents kinda guyKnowledgeOfSelf 00:09, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism[edit]

Perhaps you should have stopped and checked what I was doing rather than so rudely and arrogantly dubbing it vandalism! Possibly even tried to talk? Administrators acting in this way reinforce Wikipedia's image of being a clique, so please act with more thought in future. 81.168.53.137 00:17, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, Im sorry, I just realised that it was a mistake and humbly apologise for it. Please continue with the good work. Sorry again. →Journalist >>talk<< 00:20, 10 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your welcome template...[edit]

...is very cool, but I think if I were a newbie, I'd be confused as to whether "Journalist" (as it appears at the top) was a username or some kind of automatic welcoming bot (now there's an idea"). Also, why does the template contain a template? You could have just as easily copied the text of the {{welcome}} template into your own. Just curious. Hello[edit]

Hey there mister admin guy sir. Can you delete Applematters.com for me please? --216.191.200.1 15:27, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey[edit]

Well I noticed you don't edit as much as you used to...neither do I, or a whole bunch of dedicated editors on this site. I am only here temporarily - I came back to do the rank insignia for several nations - but I was wondering could I use this image in my signature. Molotov (talk) File:Smilie.gife 02:46, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ofcourse you can use the image; be my guest :). I know that I dont edit as much as I used to. Im kind falling behind in school, (Ive started getting Bs, which is unacceptable), so I spend much of my time doing home work and studying. Also, the computer is a bit occupied a the moment; my brother and I have a million assignments. I still contribute daily, however, but most recently Ive been on Newpages patrol, deleting pages, and blocking vandals; all of which do not show up in my contributions for some reason. Cheers and hurry back Oran e (t) (c) (@) 15:21, 14 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

When the first player up to bat hits a hard line drive down the line, the Scottish man hears everyone standup and yell RUN RUN RUN, so he stands up and yells; Run ya bastard run. Thanks a lot for the support, even though I probably won't get to be an admin anytime soon. I've worked hard, but I guess I've done some things that make me undeserving. I guess if this one fails, then I won't try again unless I'm nominated, so I guess if I don't become one now, I won't become one for a long time. Private Butcher 18:20, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Girls Aloud tag[edit]

In response to your question on User talk:El Marino de Ruasceyi, this account is the latest in a long line of vandal accounts (probably WoW, now that his movebots don't work terribly well). His current M.O is to put NPOV, expert, and disputed tags on random articles. He's particularly fond of Obesity and Girls Aloud, but he'll do a fairly random selection of articles. He's blocked, but expect to see another incarnation soon enough. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 21:54, 21 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Who Came First?[edit]

A chicken and an egg are lying in bed, the chicken is leaning against the headboard smoking a ciqarette, with a satisfied smile on her face. The egg looking a bit pissed off, grabs the sheet, rolls over, and says; "Well I guess we finally answered that question!"

  • A team of archaeologists are excavating in Israel, when they come upon a cave. Written on the wall of the cave are the following symbols in order of appearance: 1.A dog 2.A donkey 3.A shovel 4.A fish 5.A Star of David. It is discovered that they are at least 3000 years old. They cut a slab of the stone out of the cave wall and bring it to a museum where archaeologists from all over come to study it. The most famous of these men stands up and points to the first drawing and says "This looks like a dog. We can judge that this was a highly intelligent race as they had animals for companionship. To prove this statement you can see the next drawing looks like a donkey, so they were even smart enough to use animals to till their land. The next looks like a shovel of some sort, which means they had tools. Even further proof of their high intelligence is the fish which means that when famine hit the earth and food didn't grow, they could take to the sea for food. The last symbol appears to be the Star of David which means evidently they were Hebrews." Suddenly a little old Jewish man stands up and says "I disagree with everythibg you just said, for the explanation of what the drawings mean is quite simple. First of all, everyone knows that Hebrew is not read left to right but right to left. Now look at the markings it says; Holy mackerel, dig the ass on that bitch!"KnowledgeOfSelf 00:33, 22 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Help me understand Wiki policy and best practices?[edit]

I started a wedding video business recently and just for fun I checked if wiki had a category for it. Yes, in fact there are two pages: Wedding Video[1] and Wedding Videography[2].

The first looks like pure spam to me. The second is somewhat limited, but at least it seems to be a real article. It was written by an LA videographer and he put a link to his main business page as the first item under "External Links". It is listed as "lighting and contract advice" (which exist, but as sidebars to his main page advertising services.)

Question, if you can help: 1) Is writing an article with the first external link to your own business page in the spirit of the Wikipedia? 2) If so, well I've got a page of advice to link to as well! Thanks.

Im glad you came to me before starting to write. The first thing you should know that one of our policies is that Wikipedia is not a Propoganda Machine--you cannot advertise or endorse any product or company. Articles about companies and products are fine if they are considered notable and written in an objective and unbiased style. Furthermore, articles about very small "garage" companies are not acceptable.
External links to commercial organizations are fine if they can provide valuable information associated with a topic. So, as long as your site does so, and you are not promoting your business, you may include the link.
Please remember that Wikipedia does not endorse any businesses and it does not set up affiliate programs. Hope that helps. If youre still confused you can always contact me again. Oran e (t) (c) (@) 15:15, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Your signature is very nice, but you've been forgetting to datestamp. As such, when I discover that you have (for instance) warned someone against vandalism, I have no idea when it happened unless I check the page history, which takes extra time. DS 15:15, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
