Hello I live in Brisbane and work as a bus driver, my hobbies are rock climbing, Australian history and genealogy. Although I have used Wikipedia as a resource for sometime the idea of contributing only came after seeing an article that was screaming for attention and although my efforts were very amateurish, I found it very rewarding and am now firmly addicted and as I get more confident will start to give more --Matt 08:34, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Brisbane Ferries

I'm not quite sure what you are going on with River Connections but ferry services was contracted out to Metrolink Queensland in 2003. Check www.metrolinkqueensland.com.au history page for details. And CityFerry is related to the few present ferries routes that runs between Bulimba and North Quay. CityFerry and CityCat is like Ipswich railway line or something like that to me which should not be merged but worth mentioning in Brisbane Ferries along with CityCat. hth, matt-(my page-leave me a message) 13:21, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

I fixed it for you. The link needed to be enclosed in [ and ] brackets, and in the references section you add <references/>. Gravitational anomaly

Hi, Matt. I have corrected the sea level article according to the idea you stated. I'm not a geophysicist, so I have no idea if gravity anomaly is concretely the right concept alluded. But for sure it's not gravitational anomaly, at least according to this! A lectured comment is in place.

By the way, is "can compound" right in that sentence? I'm not a native English speaker, so you will surely know better :). Greetings.

Brisbane Ferries

Hey there, I've added a ferry route to that page and I'm not sure if I've done it right. I've wound up talking an awful lot more about the ferry than the route, because all I know about the Queensport Rd ferry's route was that it was replaced by the Gateway Bridge. I couldn't find any sources as to where it crossed to, so if you could take a look at my edit and make any corrections it would be appreciated. Finally, I'd just like to let you know about the NLA newspapers site. I'm no historian, but that site has proven to be pretty fascinating, and the old newspapers could potentially be used as references in the future. Just a thought! • Many thanks for the addition, I had intended to do a section on that some time ago and forgot, I have been proofreading the NLA newspapers site for about six months and have used it as a reference for WP on a couple of occasions, particularly with my Australian criminal history edits. Just a friendly tip

I would just like to make a suggestion for your writing; please don't be offended. Just be careful not to comma splice, which happens when one uses a comma to join two independent clauses. It is best to do one of the following: write the two clauses as two sentences, join them with a conjunction/conjunctive adverb, make one clause dependent on the other, or use another punctuation mark, such as a semicolon or an em dash. No offense taken, it would appear that there have been changes in acceptable English since I was at school over 30 years ago, I also may just be wrong. I am curious as this article is written in British English and the quoted style manual is American, I wonder what a British style manual would say?

Comma splices are condemned in The Elements of Style, a popular American English style guide by E.B. White and William Strunk, Jr.

Hmm, that is an interesting point. I believe it is considered an error regardless of the variety, but is less publicised in British English. It is difficult to find an authoritative source on the issue, but the author of Eats, Shoots & Leaves, Lynne Truss (an Englishwoman), writes:

"So many highly respected writers observe the splice comma that a rather unfair rule emerges on this one: only do it if you're famous."

I'll have to look into it further, but I think the most desirable solution would be to avoid comma splicing (regardless, Wikipedia:COMMA#Commas states, "[the] incorrect use of a comma between two independent clauses is known as a comma splice", except when "citing a brief aphorism" or a "brisk conversation").
