"Portuguese military victory"? Is there any debate to this? I'm not sure it sits comfortable without a citation or some qualification, seems to me to be a similar kind of point as those that says the US had a "military victory" in Vietnam. Is the reality not more complex? S.G.(GH) ping! 13:34, 15 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article Juventude Popular has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable political party (article contains no content to establish notability, nor does it contain references for verification)

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Dusti*poke* 17:43, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Invasion of Cayenne (1809)[edit]

Dear PortugalIIV.

I´m writing you this message to discuss your edits on the article Invasion of Cayenne (1809), where you removed several pieces of text mentioning the colonial brazilian participation in the conflict.

There is a topic in the talk page, where many of the article´s main contributors stated the necessity to highlight and further explain the role of the colonial brazilians in the Invasion, in order to give a full NPOV scope of the conflict in question.

In the Brazilian historiography and worldwide brazilianist historiography, the Invasion of Cayenne is interpreted as the moment of birth of Brazilian colonial identity and the baptism of fire of the Brazilian Marine Corps. It´s of great significance to brazilian history studies and an important issue in modern historiography.

As stated in the article, and in the talk page, Brazilian colonial forces had an important and decisive role in the invasion of Cayenne, comprising almost the entire ground forces and most of the naval forces in the conflict.

Brazil also had a fairly decent level of authonomy within the Portuguese Empire, having an authonomous central government and distinct status from other portuguese colonies, which would be further expanded in 1815, when the colony of Brazil was elevated to the rank of a Kingdom and by the same law the separate kingdoms of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves were united as a single State under the title of The United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves (as can be seen in the linked article).

Considering those facts, i edited the article (based on the debate on the talk page) to insert a good ammount of missing information (such as the colonial brazilian naval vessels, the regiments and units participating, etc) and to distinguish the participation of brazilian colonial subjects of the portuguese crown in the event.

Being that explained, i would like to ask you not to revert that edition withou a propper discussion, as it would be disrespectfull to my work and the work and debate of others before me.

I understand you have quite an impressive ammount of contributions related to portuguese historiography (and i admire that), and considering this background, you most likely have some knowledge of brazilian and brazilianist historiography to understand the importance and the studies made by them on the subject discussed and can understand why i made such and edition on the article.

I thank you for your attention and bid you farewell.

Wrong battle at Cranganore[edit]

Hi. You described the wrong battle at Cranganore. Your article conflated two separate and unrelated encounters - the raid on Cranganore in October 1504 and the attack on an Egyptian transport fleet at Pandarane in December 1504. If you intend to make Indian Ocean battle pages, may I recommend you read the sub-pages of the Portuguese India Armadas? They contain a lot of information on the individual fleets and their actions in the Indian Ocean. Given the enormous amount of small engagements, raids and attacks, I would reserve separate "battle pages" only for significant and large encounters. Walrasiad (talk) 03:59, 29 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Once more on Pandarane and the battle template. Please read my argument in the discussion page of the template. In a nutshell, I'd like to ask you to please reserve the Indian Ocean battle template for significant battles, not list every minor armed actions, raids or piratical attacks in the Indian Ocean. Luso-Brazilian invasion - merge proposal[edit]

Hi PortugalIV, in responce to the concerns of the above AfD, I looked for sources to verify the factuality of the Battle of Sauce 1816 and found that although there was indeed such a battle during the Luso-Brazilian invasion, not all sources are very clear about the date, or even year of its occurence. However I think this battle was of very small importance and I am considering merging it, along with the other battles of this invasion to the main article. Your input in the discussion would be very much appreciated here Talk:Luso-Brazilian invasion#Multiple merge proposal. If you have reasons to believe that some of these articles have scope for expansion beyond what should be mentioned in the main article, by all means let me know. Thank you. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
