Sir Havian of Selaren[edit]

Can you please indicate where that photo comes from? I get zero search engine hits for "Jared and the Shark", "Sir Havian" or "Thanks Bob! Productions", and no hits for "Steve Menning" which have anything to do with this character. John Barleycorn 05:20, July 30, 2005 (UTC)

I am not certain if this is the correct way to answer you, John Barleycorn, because I am relatively new to Wikipedia and could not find out how in the help section. I am involved in the small, four-person production company that filmed "The River of Fish." We are currently creating Sir Havian's web presence. "Henry Wayne" is in fact a pen name and the author, as I understand it, prefers to keep his real name private. As for the picture of Sir Havian, a member of our production company took the photo. Hi, Tony, I hope you aren't turned off from Wikipedia by my comments, or by my nomination of your article. You might check our articles on Wikipedia:Vanity page and Wikipedia"Verifiability. Generally, articles written by the people who are the subjects of the article or who are personally involved in it are considered to have a vested interest in an article, and we use the term "vanity" to describe such articles. It's generally believed that, if something is worth having an article about it, then a neutral party would write about it. If we can't verify the existence of the subject, or if there are only a very few sources, then the subject is generally considered not significant enough to have an article. We also get lots of "hoax" articles, where people actively create articles about fictional people and places (and I don't mean your Sir Havian, I mean people they try to pass off as real), and with nothing verifiable, this could be considered in the same vein. It's not really an administrator's decision on Votes for deletion, it's a consensus effort. Any User who has a reasonable number of edits can vote on whether or not an article can be deleted, and all valid votes are counted. If there is no consensus to delete the article, then it is kept, whether the votes are cast by administrators or not. I'm not an administrator, by the way, I'm pretty new here myself. Hi Tony - I recently was reading your comments on the VfD of some page you created. Don't let that stuff get you down. Wikipedia is constantly trying to determine the appropriate amount of noteriety that should warrent an article. Unfortunately, often it devolves into "how many google hits are there." I honestly don't know how I feel about all this, but I just wanted to drop you a note so you don't get discouraged! If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve.
