    • I removed all copyrighted text from the majority of the listed articles, including all from other articles I found containing such text. The ones I left blank for a reason, as I would like some assistance on what to do with them, and if any other user wants to help re-write them. I also have questions on a few other articles I found, as in whether or not they would count as violations.

We also ask that you note what you've done either in edit summary at the source article or on its talk page, as it's important that the source article not be deleted for any reason so long as text from it remains in the new article. Copyright issues[edit]

The fact that you ask whether Polygamy in Iran would be a copyright infringement concerns me, as this article is copied almost entirely from a BBC article, here. This leads me to believe that you may have some misunderstanding of United States copyright law (which governs Wikipedia) and Wikipedia's copyright policy that could create problems with future contributions.

As a basic rule of thumb, if it is published somewhere else, you can't use it unless it is verifiably public domain or released under a license compatible with Wikipedia's (current license) GFDL. (Rarely, you may be able to verify permission from the copyright owner.) Even if there is no copyright notice, material that is previously published is presumed to be copyrighted unless something exists to suggest otherwise. The BBC article, however, is explicitly reserved: "BBC © MMIX". You can use brief quotations from copyrighted text under some circumstances as set out at the non-free content guidelines.

You can, of course, summarize or paraphrase text you find in copyrighted sources so long as you rewrite them sufficiently. Our copyright FAQ goes a little into how much revision is necessary. There is also a user essay, Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing, that may provide useful information in how much must be changed. The text has to be completely rewritten—in language and structure—to avoid infringement.

Please ask if you have any questions about our copyright policy—including what you can use and how you should revise. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Speedy deletion of File:Polygamy World Map.png[edit]

A tag has been placed on File:Polygamy World Map.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. In addition to the template, I just wanted to add that if, perchance, you are the original publisher of this image at that blog, there are procedures at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials that can clarify this. Proposed deletion of Same-sex unions in flux[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Same-sex unions in flux, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

This seems to be a neologism. A google search of Same-sex marriage in flux and of Same-sex unions in flux doesn't suggest it is a widespread term. Also, the article is unsourced and only ever cited to another Wikipedia article.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
