Wikipedia:Changing username/SUL

This page was a temporary forum for the processing of username changes that related to the migration to single unified login (SUL) between June 2008 and April 2010. Prior to this, it served as a holding pen for requests that could not be completed due to bugs in the SUL renaming process.

Notes

• When the rename has been completed, your account will have been renamed, and any contributions you have made (including deleted contributions) will be reattributed to your new account as a background process. Your account preferences, watchlist contents, password, etc. will all be preserved, and your user and user talk pages will have been moved to the new name.

  Note: The process responsible for reallocating old contributions is currently dependent upon the job queue mechanism. As such, you may find old contributions do not immediately appear under your new account; this is perfectly normal. Updates should take at most a day to complete, although the length of time will vary according to the size of the job queue on this wiki, and the status of the server processes which process this queue.

• The change will appear in the user rename log and the request will be moved to the archives in the interest of transparency. It is not possible to rename accounts without an entry being created in the log.
• This change will not affect signatures you have already left on talk pages, or other places where you signed your username with ~~~~. Those pages will continue to display your signature (including the link to your old username) unless edited manually.
• Be aware: Once you have been renamed, your old account will no longer exist and may potentially be recreated by a third party. This is true even if your old account pages have been redirected towards your new account. To guard against impersonation, you may wish to recreate the old account yourself.

• Confirmation link: This is an alternative of my main account Rambo's Revenge (talk · contribs) (confirmed here). After discussion [1][2] it was decided that a usurp would be feasible. The reasons for my wish is that the " ' " in my name means that I can't import any scripts I were to make into my monobook, because importing scripts would just call on 'User:Rambo'. Additionally I noticed one day this which lists my flaggedrev contributions under User:Rambo, presumably for similar reasons. The one on enwikiquote is not me. Maybe I'm in the wrong place (hopefully it won't just be rejected as "wrong place" and have to sit in another queue for a month) but my situation seems fairly odd and doesn't sit anywhere. I don't really own any accounts named "Rambo" apart from this tool that seems to have trouble parsering the ' in my name and attributes my flaggedrevs contribs as Rambo. I was hoping to rename (is usurp the Wiki term) to Rambo on en.wiki from Rambo Alt. Then I wish to try and get the SUL of Rambo. I don't know how feasible it is but with wiki-wide Rambo contributions equalling 5 edits across 3 projects, The Rambling Man suggested to me that it might be feasible. I have tried to register as Rambo on Commons and here but (despite having no edits) it says the accounts are taken (not by me). Hopefully this clarifies my request in some way and feel free to answer any other questions you have. Rambo's Revenge (talk) 16:52, 11 March 2010 (UTC)

 Done This is somewhat unique. I've done the rename so you are now "Rambo" on enwiki. Once that has more edits than the wikiquote one, the en wiki one should become the home wiki and you should be able to SUL it. — Rlevse • Talk • 21:35, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

I hereby confess that I don't fully understand how this works. If you want me to edit my own wiki homepage about me on swedish Wikipedia (for verification) please tell me. What I have now contributed is a link to an article edit I performed there the other day. It's about a road construction plan in Stockholm - I don't have any clue how it would prove it's actually me - but I have now followed your instructions by instinct and hope it helps so I can now usurpe the obsolete english wiki Chaan account.
