Weasel Words[edit]

"has made several important contributions" - Who said they are important and how many is several. Suggest eliminate "important: and give exact number of contributions. Believe "has made" can be just "made". Pknkly (talk) 14:41, 8 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The lead is just a summary of information.
The details are listed in the body of the article, which is very short.
He solved a problem of Dummett and Farquarson that was open for 20 years: The Gibbard Satttherwhaite theorem is often considered to be the most important result in the theory of voting.
Gibbard's books have been widely used and widely reviewed and cited. Just go to the libary and add references, if you are interested in improving the article.
He, along with Stephen Darwall and Peter Railton, have made Michigan a powerhouse for practical philosophy, including decision theory and ethics. Please use JSTOR or a library and add the appropriate references.
