Eric L. Nicoli, CBE (born August 5, 1950) has been CEO of EMI Group plc.n of the PerCent Club. He sits on the UK government’s Creative Industries Forum on Intellectual Property.

Background and Education

Nicoli received a degree in Physics from Kings College London.

For his outstanding service to the local community he received the honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering from Brunel University in July 2003.

Career

From the mid-1970s, Nicoli spent 27 years in the food manufacturing industry. While working in marketing for the confectionery company Rowntree's (previously owned by Rowntree Mackintosh), Nicoli spotted a gap in the market and filled it with two chocolate bars that have since become bestsellers: the Lion Bar and Yorkie.

From Rowntree’s Nicoli joined the multinational food manufacturer United Biscuits (UB) in 1980 where he spent the next 9 years progressing through the ranks, with positions including: Marketing Director of UK Bisuits from 1980, Group Business Planning Director from 1984, Managing Director of UB Frozen Foods from 1985, Managing Director of UB Brands from 1986.

In 1989 he became Chief Executive of the company’s European operations.

Nicoli first joined EMI in the capacity of Non-Executive Director in July 1993 and became an Executive Director on May 1 1999 shortly before being appointed Executive Chairman.

From March 2001 until February 2004 was also the Non-Executive Chairman of HMV Group plc.
