Monster Allergy is an animated television series produced by the Italian production company Rainbow S.p.A. It is now also a comic book series of Disney Italy published by Buena Vista Comics. It was originally seen on Kids' WB, and now broadcasts every morning on Disney Channel Asia.

History

In 1996, Disney Italy launched a new comic company called PKNA (Paperinik New Adventures) with an unusual format, featuring human characters rather than the typical anthropomorphic animals that Walt Disney used the first thirty years. This format convinced the Milan division of Disney to launch new plans. The comic book series of Monster Allergy was published on October 13, 2003, and is therefore third of these series, which includes Atlantis: The Lost Empire and W.I.T.C.H.. It is published by Buena Vista Comics. The comic books were created by Alessandro Barbucci and Katja Centomo, of Sky Doll and W.I.T.C.H.. fame, with Francisco Artibani and Barbara Canepa. The series lasted 29 issues; however, it is still in the course of reprints, in newspaper stands the 13th of every month.

An animated series based on the comics was shown on Kids' WB (and other stations) in 2006 and premiered on Disney Channel Asia, April 1, 2007. It was produced, and directed by Iginio Straffi at Rainbow S.p.A., ironically, the creators of Winx Club (one of W.I.T.C.H.'s main competion).

Plot

Monster Allergy details the adventures of Elena Potato, who moved with her mom and dad to Oldmill Village, and Ezekiel Zick, whose father is missing and is affected by all sorts of allergies including ones that lets him see monsters. Together they uncover the secrets of the world of monsters. Zick and Elena face terrible danger, and lethal enemies, which they are usually able to overcome with their juvenile spirit.

They are aided by Timothy-Moth, Zick's "cat" and "tutor", who is found to be unusual in that he has his own powers and can speak. He turns out to be a tutor and a guardian of the monsters that were sent to be detained and tutored for breaking the rules of Bibbur-si.

Style

Barbucci, who had been working on comics for many years, beginning its collaboration with these plans experiences them of Disney Italy, had begun to evolve his personal drawing style towards the "manga" style (as seen in Carpe Diem, the 14th issue of the series), and still more on the pages than W.I.T.C.H., one of more it originates them Italian Disney comic strips, develops a style that decidedly will make school.

Ezekiel Zick

Zick is a loner who is considered a bit "strange" because he has the ability to see invisible monsters that others cannot see. Elena is Zick's 12-year-old best friend. She helps him in their adventures, adores cats and she also adores the world of monsters. She gains the gift of 'Sight' (ability to see and keep monsters in their houses) by Greta Barrymore - Zick's Mother. Elena is a tomboy and she gets really mad when Zick takes her for granted. She also tries to help Zick with his monster taming and might have a crush on him.

Elena is voiced by Annie Bovaird in Italian version and Kaley Cuoco in English version.

Timothy-Moth

Timothy is Zick's cat and Tutor. He is very mysterious and sarcastic but a great help to Zick. He is in charge of the Detention Oasis of the Barrymore's House, and later has been replaced by Jeremy-Joth for violating too many rules of Bibbur-Si. He returns later on in the series.

Timothy is voiced by Michael Perron in Italian version and Samuel Vincent in English version.

Bombo

Bombo belongs to the Bombos race and lives with Zick and the other monsters in Zick's house that are under the supervision of Timothy. His crime is ignoring his diet, and eating Zick's shoes.

Bombo is voiced by Rick Jones.

Magnacat

Magnacat is president of Pyramid Inc. when in human form, but really he is one of the most evil monster, a shape shifting Gorka.

Magnacat is voiced by Al Goulem in Italian version and Kevin Michael Richardson in English version.

Lardine

Lardine is a female cat seen in the show. Like Timothy, she is a tutor. She is in charge of the Port Reef at the Detention Oasis. She is seen in episodes: Cat In The Pot, The Pyramid of the Invulnerable, Magnacat, Terror in the Deep and Family Reunion.

Lardine is voiced by Kath Soucie.

Greta Barrymore

Greta is Zick's Mother and lives with him in an old house called Villa Barrymore. She owns a flower shop, and her husband is Zobedja Zick - Zick's Father. She tries protects Zick form the world of monsters by pretending not to see them, but later told him when he found out on his own.

Greta is voiced by Candi Milo.

Theo Barrymore

Theo is a white ghost, he is Greta's dad. At home, Zick is in continuous contact with his dead grandparents, who often provide valuable suggestions and wise advice to their grandson.

A Bombak to Bibbur-Si

Oldmill and Bibbur-Si

Although the appearing imperanti disorder and anarchy, the city introduces some iron rules, which every good monster must adhere itself just in order not to end in the restrictive oases and, above all, for being able to survive to the dangerous world of the humans.
