Fleetwood is a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,006 at the 2005 census. It was home to the Fleetwood Metal Body company, an automobile coachbuilder purchased by Fisher Body and integrated into General Motors in 1931. The name lived on in the Cadillac Fleetwood automobile. In mid January 2007, Fleetwood was in the national news spotlight when a wallaby was sighted near the town.[1]

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 2.7 km² (1.0 mi²), all land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 4,018 people, 1,584 households, and 1,124 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,491.7/km² (3,859.7/mi²). There were 1,623 housing units at an average density of 602.5/km² (1,559.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.81% White, 0.27% African American, 0.40% Asian, 0.97% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.72% of the population.

There were 1,584 households out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.00.

In the borough the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $48,621, and the median income for a family was $60,051. Males had a median income of $39,559 versus $26,321 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $21,600. About 2.5% of families and 2.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.5% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over.
