I respectfully disagree with your logic. I don't know which Wikipedia policy you're following (and I mean that without implying anything demeaning, I honestly don't know off the top of my head). We block RIM users all the time --I found my own cell phone blocked on several occasions-- but I realize that's part of keeping vandalism to a minimum. By erasing the warnings you're giving users of Danger Inc's service a pass, which isn't exactly equal treatment for users. It helps identify IP address that have chronic problems, and like some IP ranges we block for that reason (open proxies, etc), we may have to institute longer blocks for the greater good of the Project. --[[User:Bobak|Bobak]] ([[User talk:Bobak|talk]]) 21:02, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2006 AFL Melbourne.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:2006 AFL Melbourne.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hi. Do you know what source <ref name="IHE" /> refers to? Obviously, the text says "Inside Higher Education" (IHE) but I'm lost after that.Thanks.[1]Viriditas | Talk 13:04, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dunno. I didn't write it, merely split it from another article. Cary Bass demandez 16:10, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Import Access

What is this title? You're the only one with it. Special:Import can only be performed by admins and import but you are an admin so is this a dead class? Respond on my talk page. ThundermasterTRUC 15:16, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you look it up http://www.mediawiki.org so you can understand the differences. Cary Bass demandez 15:34, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WikBack account created

Someone, perhaps you, recently created an account at the WikBack. If the account was created by an imposter, please let me know as soon as possible so that it can be disabled. Otherwise, welcome! The Uninvited Co., Inc. 19:54, 28 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Identify confirmation

Per my request for Oversight pending on Meta:Requests for permissions, could you please confirm there that I confirmed my identity several weeks ago? Thanks, Newyorkbrad (talk) 22:04, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I did this? Cary Bass demandez 22:27, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You confirmed that I had identified by e-mail to the En-Wiki ArbCom, but you need to make a note under my request on Meta for the Stewards to see. Thanks, Newyorkbrad (talk) 22:32, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I guess my email to stewards-l on 4 January, when you sent it, got forgotten. Cary Bass demandez 05:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Euclid St. Paul's Neighborhood in st pete-- seeking consensus

Hi, Bastique.

Is this sufficiently notable for an article of its own? Do we have articles on sections of St. Pete?? Lived in Pinellas for 30+ years and never heard of it. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 23:28, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope and there's no references either. I don't think it belongs. Cary Bass demandez 03:15, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Dlohcierekim 04:52, 28 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User rights

Hi, I was just wondering why your user rights say administrator and import? Thanks. Earthbendingmaster 22:06, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Because I need it. Cary Bass demandez 22:09, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
For some reason I thought import was disabled on wikipedia? Earthbendingmaster 22:11, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed it is. But I *work* here... Cary Bass demandez 22:14, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What do you mean? Also, you are the only user that has import, and in your user rights log, I do not see you being granted import? Earthbendingmaster 22:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you care? Cary Bass demandez 22:30, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just curious, I like to know these things. Earthbendingmaster 22:32, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I've explained it. I work for the Foundation. Cary Bass demandez 22:40, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So you have it to try to enable it again? How come there is no record of you receiving import? Sorry to ask all these questions. Earthbendingmaster 22:42, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, import will not be enabled, as far as I'm aware. The record is not found on this wiki because bureaucrats cannot grant the right. I hope that's all. Thanks. Bye. Cary Bass demandez 22:46, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just two more question, how did you receive import, and why do you seem almost secret about it? Again, sorry for all these questions. Earthbendingmaster 22:58, 5 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have answered your questions. Cary Bass demandez 00:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cary works for the foundation. It's common practice to grant foundation employees high-level access to the databases, as they are hired in order to do administrative work. They have never been subject to the normal procedures for granting user rights; they receive their abilities through their position and must forfeit them if they stop being employed by the foundation. — Carl (CBM · talk) 00:36, 6 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed that you have participated in Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 00:47, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Template:Vandal/commons

A tag has been placed on Template:Vandal/commons requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 03:39, 16 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Indef IP block

FYI, I just unblocked the 6 month old indef block on that IP as the block page says to not block any IP indefinitely. Hope I've done the right thing here, please do let me know if there's something wrong. Cheers αlεxmullεr 19:09, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't even remember why it was blocked. Just watch out for the IP, because I'm sure there was a good reason :). Thanks. Cary Bass demandez 19:51, 27 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Cary, can you have a look at the thread above? It's distinctly odd... I am unsure if the editor making the office action is a WMF officer—I have never encountered them. If you've got a moment and could pop by, it'd be great. Cheers, AGK (contact) 11:49, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I may have resolved this, although your comments would probably still be appreciated. Daniel (talk) 12:08, 1 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Skirt around meta:Role accounts

Hey Cary,

Can you take a look at this thread on AN/I? I've set up something that technically is a role account, but that can't edit (it's permanently blocked by design) to create a contact point for a college CERT. Once people got what I was trying to do, it seemed to be considered a good idea, but it was suggested that you be poked on the subject.

Incidentally, I think this is a first time an edu steps forwards to "defend" Wikipedia to protect access to the resource. It's a Good Thing, I think, and they should be commended for it. — Coren (talk) 03:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Poke, poke? — Coren (talk) 16:28, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please send an email about this.... I have no idea what this relates to. Cary Bass demandez 16:37, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Office protection

Can you review the three currently protected articles to ensure that they should still be "office"d. See also the talk page on Ruud Lubbers. Rich Farmbrough, 17:26 12 March 2008 (GMT).

I will have to ask the people responsible for each of those three articles. I'll make Lubbers a priority. Cary Bass demandez 17:50, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm stepping Ruud Lubbers down to semi-protection, per Mike Godwin. Thanks for your attention. Cary Bass demandez 18:15, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFAR/Betacommand

Your name has come up and I believe you are being misrepresented. I think it would probably be best if you clarified this for everyone. LaraLove 16:30, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Wow. Cary Bass demandez 15:54, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A proposal

Hi Bastique,

Could you please take a look at my proposal here [2] (diff [3]). Thanks in advance, Cheers, --Be happy!! (talk) 09:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you from Horologium

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed unanimously with the support of 100 editors. Your kindness is very much appreciated. I look forward to using the tools you have granted me to aid the project. I would like to give special thanks to Wizardman, Black Falcon and jc37 for nominating me. — Horologium

'import'

On listusers you are listed as being both an administrator and 'import'. I have never come across this before - out of curiosity, what is it? asenine say what? 00:58, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure this is in my talk page history. On a project with the import function disabled, import is a user's ability to import history from another project, otherwise this is enabled for admins. English Wikipedia does not allow import (Don't ask me why), and has no policy on who has/doesn't have this function. Given that concern, I've decided to remove it from my access and only use it when it becomes necessary. Thanks for bringing this up. Bastique demandez 16:48, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
