What is the point of edits like [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Altstadt&curid=5453295&diff=213077530&oldid=195175479 this]? Despite me and other protesting against this annoying "feature" of the AWB tool, it still puts categories above stubs in the source code despite the fact they are rendered as stubs above cats. What is the point of cluttering peoples watch list with such nonsense? --&nbsp;[[User:Matthead|Matthead]]&nbsp;[[User_talk:Matthead|<font style="color:#ffff00;background:#0000cc;"><small>&nbsp;Discuß&nbsp;</small></font>]]&nbsp; 19:36, 17 May 2008 (UTC)

RFA Planning

Hello, and I see your an adopter of Excirial. I just wanted to say that planning an RFA is not really encouraged. I did that about a month ago and I learned it wasn't good. I was actually planning to try an RFA at 5000 edits, but it would be better if you just tried if your ready. Look at me, I've been on wikipedia for almost three months and I already have over 9000 edits and I am not even close to being ready, even with 2500+ mainspace edits. Comments? I'd be happy to answer.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 03:59, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ready for trying the WP:RFA.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 04:08, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
RyRy has quite a valid point here. It is indeed true that planning an RFA (far) in advance is discouraged. The reason for this is that an RFA is a vote based procedure, where the voters are other editors. Generally saying planning an RFA in advance is frowned upon during the voting process, both because it gives the idea that the nominee just nominates himself at a set point no matter what ("Ready or not, here i am!").
Its best to put an RFA at a stage you feel you are completely ready for it, and found an activity that requires administrative privileges. I am also considering running for adminship someday, but even now there are things that i want and need to learn. Apart from that i just love tagging pages for NP Patrol, which simply doesn't require administrative privileges. Once i truly feel like working dedicated on WP:AIV and WP:NPP i will issue an RFA. Consider doing the same, There are loads of areas to have some fun in, and which don't require admin privileges :) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 07:29, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was going to mention this, but i didnt want to dampen your spirit, you just keep working hard, eventually someone will notice you and your abilities and they will nominate you. You have what it takes. ;-) Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 15:07, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed you have put up an IQ userbox, believe it or not that is frowned upon at adminship, there was a person you did pass his adminship but 5 people opposed him nomination because of that userbox believing it was showing off. Adminship means there are strict rules on what your user page should contain. I have had to remove tons of stuff from mine. Its just a suggestion, you can still pass with the IQ user box, it just makes it a little harder. Yours Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 16:48, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its silly i know, you are right though, adminship requirements are too high, yet you still have a very good chance in the future. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 16:56, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure ill take a look later today, ill give you some feedback soon. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 17:01, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations so far!

I see you have been busy! And of course: Congratulations on the barnstar!

As for where to keep the barnstar, it might indeed by handy to set up several pages with navigation. In case you are interested, you can copy over the navigation from my user page and adapt it to create your own. Actually you may copy over my entire user page and set it up as your own if you would like to, i got no problems with that (Several users already did actually :) ).

If you feel like creating your own navigation box, here is the link to the source code of mine: User:Excirial/Navigation. It should prove easy to adapt to your own needs, with which i will of course help if you want to. Why i am not simply building it into your page already as i did before with the archive box? Simple, i believe an user page design is rather personal. What i like to see might not be what you like to see, so before i simply smash something of this magnitude in, i would first like to hear your opinion :) Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 07:29, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just wanted to say that I was one of the ones who copied his user page. :P It looks very professional and orginized. It looks positivly great in other words! :) -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 15:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason I deleted the reference to the presence of fasces in the US Congress from the article on Fascist Symbolism is that it was blatantly tendentious -- aimed at making a political point. The reference was that the fasces on the podium were plainly visible during George W. Bush's New World Order speech. True fact. However, those fasces were equally plainly visible during every other speech made at the US Congress since the 1860s. Does the fact that the fasces were visible during the reading of Abraham Lincoln's address in 1862 reveal some truth about Lincoln or the fasces? Does the fact that the fasces were visible during the address to Congress by Winston Churchill after WWII imply that he was a closet fascist? Of course not.

I believe this paragraph should be deleted in its entirety, or perhaps noted in a single line: "Fasces also appear on the podium of the U.S. Congress, which was constructed during the period 1851-67." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.126.133.83 (talk) 16:12, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

about "Kushal" article

Hi, I guess you are the one who changed back the wiki article on Kushal.

I am an Indian and fluent speaker of Hindi, and as far as I know "Kush" (कुश) Does not mean happy, "Khush" (खुश) The difference cannot be very well distinguished in English. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.192.229.123 (talk) 16:28, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'd be glad to. Just give me a few minutes to look over your contributions. By the way, I've noticed you reverting a lot today, but I'll take a closer look. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 16:44, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You've done mostly reverting of vandalism I see. Keep it up, but just be careful when using Twinkle as misusing it can result to a block. But I don't see very much article writing/improving. Vandal fighting is good when on an RFA, but mots people support good article writers. Have you ever heard of WP:DYK? I suggest participating on there. I've recently started nominating articles for DYK and all of them seem to pass. Having many DYK's, GA's, etc. is a really good thing to have in an RFA. Basically, try creatin some articles. If you need any help at all and Excirial is offline, feel free to talk to me. I'm online at a good amount of time everyday.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 16:58, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Here is your edit history. Your doint good, you only have 280 odd mainspace edits so try to build them up. Your total edits is over 1000!!! Thats really good but you really want to get the mainspace edits higher. Also notice that there is a lot of RED. That red means that your not leaving edit summarys enough. When you make an edit make sure you give a summary, i forget aswell dont worry. Other than that your doing well. Make sure you keep that link somewhere safe, every few days check it to see how your improving. ;-) Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 20:03, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with R2. Keep up the good work and follow his/her suggestions. Also, if you want to make sure that you do not have an edit summary when saving, go to my preferences - Editing -then checkmark the box that says "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" next to it. Questions? -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 21:24, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meaning the article, not me! Just a quick note to mention that your Twinkle-assisted reversion (this one) was incorrect to change "American" to "Australian". Not having knowledge of how Twinkle works, I'm guessing that the heap of white space (which was incorrect) in the earlier revision was the reason the change was made. I've edited back to "American", but kept the spacing correct, I hope. Loganberry (Talk) 23:50, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Further advise

Hi ive been reading a few adminship requests. There is an editer who does similar work to you (only a lot more of it as hes been here so long - hes up to 5000 edits) and his request isnt going too well. People over there like anti vandalism editers but they also want to see some article building. A lot of the stuff you to with twinkle etc doesnt require much interaction with other editers. You need to show you can work with others, resolve disagreements and revert vandalism. I would suggest you start contributing to building articles aswell. Split your time 2/3 reverting vandalism and 1/3 working on articles. Even if its just checking spelling, grammer or looking for reliable sources. If there is a topic you know a lot about or something that interests you, try working on it. You havent been doing much editing recently, is everything ok? Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 17:34, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, dont give up though. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 23:23, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do my best. Keep in mind it may take me a few days. Anything specific you might want on your user page?-- RyRy5 (talkReview) 01:48, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll start as soon as I can. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 01:55, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Your welcome. I think I will redesign R2's page first since he asked first. But I will come to you as soon as I can. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 02:03, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I renovated User:Realist2's user page. Is that the kind of page design you prefer, or even close? Of course I will change the colors though to the ones you like. --RyRy5 (talkReview) 03:54, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will start a little later. Do you want a page like User:Realist2? -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't see that other message. Well, I'll start in about 30 minutes. --RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:18, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

 Done. How do you like it? -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 01:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! It took me quite a while to do, but I did it all in one edit. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 03:59, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Check It Out

Check out my new userpage! RyRy5 renovated it for me.:)Xp54321 (talk) 13:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have to say, it looks rather nice :).
Its also quite funny to see that RyRy5 incorporated part of my own coding into the new design, along with parts of his own code. I was already pleasantly surprised when people asked if they could copy my userpage, but seeing that part of my codebase is being used for future designs actually really cool as well! Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 14:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for saying how nice the page looked. Oh and a special thanks for the barnstar. I'm currently using a laptop so it may take me a while to respond if so. I'll be at my own computer in a while.--RyRy5 (talkReview) 22:52, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question(s)

What is the template for the userbox saying your a new page s patroller. I am one now. So this is how they mark pages for csd so fast.:)Xp54321 (talk) 22:33, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thats {{User wikipedia/NP Patrol}}
Also, a few words of advice and warnings regarding Newpage patrol. Lets start with the advise: if you are serious about becoming a new page patrol, you might like to add the following script to your monobook: importScript('User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js');. This is an automatically updating list of new pages created, which is way easier then refreshing the new page logs every time.
As for the words of warning: NewPage patrol is at start most likely the hardest area on Wikipedia to work in, mostly due to the fact that there are a lot of rule sets that apply to new pages. Before starting as a newpage patrol i worked several months as a vandalism patrol, which meant i knew the rules rather well. Even so, i found it quite difficult to patrol correctly the first month, as it is difficult and important work; Tag to early and you might delete valuable pages, Tag to late and junk might get trough. As a tip, don't count on the admins stopping you if you tag something that might not be ok. I received a notice from an admin a month after i started that i tagged to aggressively. I had been tagging the same kind of articles for a month, so ii ended up having removed several potentiality good articles.
Make sure you know can almost literally cite WP:CSD, and that you have read WP:Notable (Including its subsections for certain topics), WP:BLP and WP:BIO. Apart from that make sure what template is used for what situation. When in doubt just tag it for PROD, or drop a note on my talk page. I will be glad to help check a page (I do that all day anyway :P).
And at the very last: Make sure you can keep your cool when people start running in on your talk page, hurling insults and screams. I has countless idiots fellow editors asking why their page was deleted, some being quite impolite. In those cases just explain why you removed/tagged the page, and if they keep insulting or vandalize your user page, just warn them with a NPA (No personal attack) template. If things get really hot, just report them at WP:AIAV, but that should be a last resort.
Hope this helps, Excirial (Talk,Contribs) 22:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign Langaues Articles

Hi XP!

First off, thanks for the barnstar; That it may twinkle forever on my my award page :)

A second thing i wanted to discuss are foreign language articles. Every now and then you will encounter a page that contains a non english language. Most times those articles will look like a whole lot of gibberish, or they are swarmed with non understandable Arabic characters. In case you can read the language it is written in, its easy to decide if the article fits in one of the other CSD caregories. If it does, tag it for removal under the proper category, and add a {{notice|Explanation Here}} uder the CSD tag explaining the admin what the article is all about.

In most cases you wont be able to read the articles contents however. When that happends, tag the page with the {{notenglish|language}} template (Substituting language for the language its written in. leaving it blank will default to unknown). After that is done just follow the templates directions and place a request on the request for translation area. People there will check if its noticable (If not, its CSD'ed) and will translate it to English. If that is not done within 20 days, the article is deleted.

AWB

Where did you extract it to? Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 23:12, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - not quite sure why you tagged this article as unreferenced; there are a couple of references on it. What sort of references are you expecting? Also, the film-editor-stub template already indicated that expansion would be welcome (at the bottom of the page). Easchiff(talk) 23:56, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:AWB

Sorry, but I also don't know how to start it. I downloaded it and I was approved, but I have no clue how to use it. Ask the user who approved it. Thanks. -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:00, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing this, I see you figured out how to use it. Do you mind telling me? -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:11, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I assume it's working from the above link. I don't use it myself so I'm not the best person to ask. There is a list of developers on the WP:AWB page, you could ask one of them if you're still having problems (I also assume you've followed the download instructions and have .NET properly installed). --Rodhullandemu 00:14, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I'll try later. Also, User:Rodhullandemu was the one who appoved it for me. Maybe asking someone else who uses it activly on recent changes. --RyRy5 (talkReview) 00:18, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Xp54321. I just realized that asking you where you extracted the file to won't make much of a difference. Anyway, wherever you extracted it to, open that folder and find the icon that says "AutoWikiBrowser". That's how you start the program. If you want to put that on your desktop, then simply copy that file and put it on your desktop. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have on my talk page. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 00:39, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I forwarded it. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 01:01, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good job. I still have yet to get 1000 edits (to the mainspace, of course). Right now, I have...670 mainspace edits. I've been here for 2 months and 19 days. Oh well, I've got a long way to go. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 01:08, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good job. But you really don't have to tell anybody. I've learned that. Editcountitis is a horrible desiese. Beware... -- RyRy5 (talkReview) 01:10, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just wanted to let you know, here's a link to your edit history, broken down into mainspace, talk page, etc. edits. It's usually what the admins use if they need to know anything about your edits. Cheers, Kodster (You talkin' to me?) (Stuff I messed up) 01:15, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2000!!! Well done, keep it up. Realist2 ('Come Speak To Me') 01:34, 17 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
