In 2007 he became a visiting scholar at the University of California Berkeley's Center for Catastrophic Risk Management. Sullenberger is a former safety chairman and safety instructor with the Air Lines Pilots Association, who was instrumental in writing a Federal Aviation Administration safety advisory circular.[5]
