==Release==
The movie was supposed to be released on February 13, 2009, but recent reports claimed that [[A. R. Rahman]]'s continued absence from the project has led to a delay of the film getting released. Delhi-6 is a forthcoming Hindi film (Bollywood) film directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra starring Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Om Puri, Atul Kulkarni, and Divya Dutta.[1] The movie is reportedly based on Mehra's growing up years in Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi.[2] The film will be Mehra's third directorial venture after critically acclaimed Aks and the immensely successful Rang De Basanti.

Plot

American-born Indian, Roshan (Abhishek Bachchan) brings his ailing grandmother back to India. Little does he know that the quick trip will turn into the longest journey of his life - a journey within. The backdrop of the story is the ancient walled city of Delhi, better known as Chandni Chowk, a character in herself. It represents the chaos, religion, beliefs and ethos of the Indian people. The PIN code of that part of the city is 110006, and it is traditional to use only one or two digits of the pin code after Delhi.[3][4]

Date problems for Abhishek Bachchan delayed the film, but it all worked out in the end with Abhishek portraying the lead actor in the film which was the plan from day one.[11] Sonam Kapoor, daughter of Anil Kapoor, who made her debut in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya, reportedly confirmed taking part in the movie and is paired with Abhishek Bachchan.[12] Rishi Kapoor and Tanvi Azmi are also a part of the film. [13]The film went on the floors December 20, 2007. [14] Amitabh Bachchan reportedly has a small role in the film where he is supposed to play the grandfather to Roshan, played by Abhishek Bachchan. Waheeda Rahman will play the grandmother of the same character.[15] Gulshan Grover has been roped in to play Abhishek Bachchan's dad in the film.[16] Editing for the film is being done by Meghna Aschit and Rakeysh's wife Bharthi. In an interview Rakeysh said that he is not involved with the editing and is really curious to see the outcome of his work on the movie. [17][18]

A.R. Rahman is the music director of this film. [23] Prasoon Joshi is the lyricist. The music was released on 14th January 2009 at the Indian Idol 4 competition.[24]. The first video of the song "Masakalli" was released featuring Sonam and Abhishek with a pigeon. However, the song was not part of the original film. According to the director,"The song was not really meant to be part of the narrative. I mean, who would think of putting in a song about a dove in a film like ‘Delhi-6′? It just happened. When I came to the pre-climax portion of my script, I was stuck. I needed a continuity link taking the narrative to its finale".[25][3] Other videos released includes the title track Delhi-6, the romantic interlude Rehna Tu as well as the folky Genda Phool.

Reception

The soundtrack for the movie has received extremely positive reviews, with most reviewers hailing the album to be one of Rahman's best works. NaachGaana.com reviewed the music saying "Delhi-6 is just as rich, just as powerful, and just as awe-inspiring as his work in Slumdog Millionaire. As we take the timeless stroll down the streets of Delhi 6, let us rejoice in the phenomenon that is Rahmania". [26] A review on Bollywood Hungama said, "Delhi 6 is near perfect. If one thought that Slumdog Millionaire, Ghajini and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na were superb then just listen to Delhi 6 once. Rahman beats his own score with Delhi 6 which would easily go down as one of his best scores till date." [27] According to a review on PlanetBollywood.com, "One would think that Rahman couldn’t raise the bar any higher. Just when you wonder how high he can go, he raises the bar even higher until one feels that he has attained true musical nirvana and we are lucky enough to be along for the ride. “Dilli 6” shows a Rahman that is at the top of his game. He is a league ahead of his contemporaries and an artist that transcends global boundaries to spread the joy of his music throughout the world." [28] "Each and every song in Dehli-6 upholds the high standards Rahman has set. Romantic numbers (Dil Gira Dafatan, Rehna Tu), upbeat compositions (Delhi-6, Genda Phool, Hey Kaala Bandar), uplifting tracks (Masakkali), devotional numbers (Arziyan, Aarti—Tumre Bhavan Mein), a full-fledged classical number (Bhor Bhaye) and a short and sweet poem (Noor), Delhi-6’s OST has plenty of variety, and songs to suite everyone’s musical tastes."[29]. According to Rediff's Sukanya Verma, "A R Rahman makes waiting for his music such a worthwhile chore what with one fantastic soundtrack after another. Close on the heels of a deserving Golden Globes wins follows the anticipated score of Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's Delhi 6. Considering its impossible-to-define Chandni Chowk roots, Rahman injects the sounds of this 10-tracked album with an eclectic fusion of various genres."[30]
