Mirdif

Template:Infobox UAE community Mirdif (Arabic: مردف), sometimes referred to as Mirdiff what stems from a translational problem. Mirdif is a residential area located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Mirdif is mainly comprised of small villa developments, or single privately held villas, two bedrooms or more. It became popular with expatriates in the 1990s, as it was seen as value for money over the traditional residential areas, and was ideal for middle income families with children.

The population of the General Mirdif area is a complete mixture of all nationalities, UAE nationals, middle-eastern expatriates, along with Asian and European expatriates.

Geography

Mirdif is located approximately 10km away from Dubai City Center to the south east. In the north it borders the districts Al Muhaisnah and Al Mizhar, in the south it borders Al Warqaa and in the east it borders Al Rashidiya. The eastern part of Mirdif is the public Al Mushrif park.

Transportation

Mirdif has a modern road infrastructure and is connected to the public transport system of Dubai by 3 Dubai Metro bus routes. The Algeria Street (D 56) passes through Mirdif from north to south and connects Mirdif in the north to the Al Khawaneej Street (D 89) and in the south to the Tripoli Street (D 83). Both lead to the bypassing Emirates Road (E 311).

The Dubai Metro is reachable via the Rashidia Station in the neighbouring Al Rashidia district.

The Dubai International Airport is approximately 10 minutes by car.

Culture

Mirdif has several nurseries and schools.

• Mirdiff Private School with an American-based curriculum.
• Uptown School at the 15th street off Algeria Street.
• Star International School opened in September 2008 centrally located behind Lifco Supermarket at 37th street with entrances from 31d street and 24b street. The lessons are held in English and according to the English national curriculum plus mandatory Arabic lessons. The Facilities are capable to cater the needs of up to 1200 students from KG1 to Year12.

There are also plenty of nurseries and schools in the neighbouring districts.

Sports and Recreation

• The town enjoys a public park at 26b street, which is located in the newer part of the town, with basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, as well as a 300 metre walking track, training equipment and extensive play equipment for children.
• The public Al Mushrif park with a size of more than 15 hectars and trees up to 50 years of age offers outdoor recreation.

Lifco

This shopping area is split into 2 buildings. The whole complex houses a Lifco supermarket, 2 dry cleaner, a florist, a music center, a reflexology and massage centre, 2 hairdressers, a pharmacy, a grocery, a hardware shop, a bookshop, and a cafe and restaurant.

Mirdif City Centre

Is due to be opened in spring 2010.

Mirdif Shopping Centre

The complex is devided into 3 buildings. One of them calls itself Mirdif Golden Gate. The complex consists of the following shops: Mass supermarket, pharmacy, grocery, 2 hairdressers, 2 laundries, cafe, pizza restaurant, furniture and decoration, nutrition center, beauty center, pet shop.

Uptown Mirdif

Uptown Mirdif is a property project developed by Union Properties. The project's design is inspired by an ancient spa town. It features uniquely designed open shopping area which include 400,000 sq ft (37,000 m²) of net lettable space. The project features also villas, apartments, play areas and recreation facilities, healthcare center and Primary school and over 2000 accommodations (villas and flats).

A further large property development is presently under construction: Mirdif gate is being constructed on the northern end of the area which comprises a large number of individual houses, and many apartment blocks.
