Brand New Eyes (styled as brand new eyes) is the upcoming third studio album by American rock band Paramore, scheduled for release through Fueled by Ramen on September 29, 2009 in the United States and Canada. The album was produced by Rob Cavallo and recorded in the Hidden Hills of California from January to March, 2009.[11]
Production
Pre-production took place in Nashville for six weeks before the band headed to California to record. It was the first time they had undergone pre-production without the guidance of a producer.[12] Williams described this period as "really stressful".[12] The recording process was seen as "therapy" by the band.[12] Before it was written, they were at the the point of splitting,[12] but through the lyrics and the music, they let their emotions out at each other.[12] After which they were able to openly discussed their problems with each other.[12] The title Brand New Eyes was based on a track that was later cut from the album and means "seeing everything in a whole new perspective."[13]
Release and promotion
The first single from the album was "Ignorance", which was made available via digital download on July 7, on the same date the album became available for pre-order on Paramore's official website.[14] "Brick by Boring Brick" is expected to be the second single from the album, with "The Only Exception" to follow as the third single. "Brick by Boring Brick" also references the album's cover, in the lyric "The angles were all wrong Now she's ripping wings off of butterflies" [15]
Two versions of the album will be available; a standard CD edition as well as a deluxe package which has sold out in the United States. The deluxe will include the album on CD, a 40-page hardcover journal, Hayley Williams' handwritten lyrics and notes on the album, a colour vinyl 7" single with two acoustic songs and a DVD featuring an exclusive 'making-of' documentary.[16] The CD will also be one of the first to use iTunes LP. Paramore has also released a preview pack for the tour to download for free on their site which includes an acoustic performance of "Ignorance", and songs from Paper Route and The Swellers.
Reception
Andrew Leahey of Allmusic gave the album a positive review, stating,"Brand New Eyes presents Paramore as a stronger, leaner, and altogether more consistent band."[1]
Tour
Paramore have announced that they are going on tour on their official site, with The Swellers and Paper Route joining them as opening acts. The tour will begin in Pomona, California on September 29, 2009 (the day of the album's release).[17] The band also announced that they would be doing a European tour starting off in Helsinki, Finland on November 29, 2009, with You Me At Six, Paper Route and Now, Now Every Children supporting all UK tour dates.[18]
