Mukesh Ambani (Gujarati:મુકેશ અંબાની ) (born on April 19, 1957 in Aden, Yemen) is an Indian business tycoon.[6] He is the chairman, managing director and the largest shareholder of Reliance Industries, India's largest private sector enterprise and a Fortune 500 company.[7] His personal stake in Reliance Industries is 48%.[8] His wealth is valued at $ 29.0 Billion by Forbes Magazine, making him the world's 4th richest person and Asia's wealthiest person.[9] Mukesh Ambani and his younger brother Anil are sons of the late founder of Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai Ambani. Mukesh Ambani directed and led the creation of the world’s largest grassroots petroleum refinery at Jamnagar, India, with a current capacity of 660,000 barrels per day (33 million tonnes per year) integrated with petrochemicals, power generation, port and related infrastructure.[10] Today, he leads the largest private sector conglomerate in India.

Family and Early Life

Mukesh Ambani is the eldest child of a Gujarati Baniya family. His family (including parents and brother) lived in a 2 bedroom apartment in Bhuleshwar, Bombay until the 1960s. His brother is Anil Ambani, another of India's prominent businessmen.

Education

Mukesh D. Ambani is a chemical engineer from University Institute of Chemical Technology (earlier University Department of Chemical Technology), University of Mumbai (earlier University of Bombay). He has pursued an MBA from Stanford University, USA.[11]

Career

He joined Reliance Industries in 1981. [12] He initiated Reliance's backward integration journey from textiles into polyester fibres and further into petrochemicals, petroleum refining and going up-stream into oil and gas exploration and production. He directed the creation of the Jamnagar Refinery. Mukesh Ambani has set up one of the largest and most complex information and communications technology initiative in the world in the form of Reliance Infocomm Limited (now Reliance Communications Limited).

Personal life

He is married to Nita Ambani and has 3 children, Aakash, Anant and Isha.[13] He owns the Indian Premier League team, the Mumbai Indians.
