Speedy Singhs (also known as Breakaway) is a 2011 sports comedy film directed by Robert Lieberman, starring Vinay Virmani, Camilla Belle, Rob Lowe, Russell Peters, and Anupam Kher.[2] Akshay Kumar, Drake, and Ludacris make cameo appearances.[3][4] Produced by Paul Gross and Akshay Kumar, the film was released on 23 September 2011.

Plot

Set in inner city Toronto, the film tracks a young man struggling between traditional Indo-Canadian family expectations and his dreams of hockey stardom.

Casting

Camilla Belle plays the female lead opposite Vinay Virmani. National Film Award-winning Indian actor Anupam Kher plays a father who wants his son to quit hockey and devote his life to his religion and family business.

Box office

According to boxoffice-india the film grossed only Rs. 3.50 crore in its first week and was declared a flop in India.[5]

Music

Music composer and head of Columbia Records India, Sandeep Chowta will be composing music for Breakaway with special features from RDB (Rhythm Dhol Bass), Jassi Sidhu, Rishi Rich Productions, Bohemia, J-Hind and US Rapper Ludacris.

International version

Breakaway is originally a Punjabi project. The international version, titled Breakaway released to theaters in Canada on 30 September 2011, a week after the global release of the alternately titled Speedy Singhs version. While the film is mostly in English, the Speedy Singh version is entirely dubbed in Hindi.
