Hello there. Please feel welcome to tell me anything I'm doing wrong... or right, but I care more about improving on what I'm bad at than knowing what I'm good at.

Unless you ask otherwise, I will respond to your messages here and leave talkback notices at your respective pages. I tend to think in a very technical way, and I like things to flow well, so if you request that I respond at your page, I will, but I may also post my response here, for continuity's sake.

General maintenance disclaimer: I may alter the basic style of your comments (placement, indentation, etc.) or clarify what you're referring to (in which case such an intervention would be tagged with my own signature), but I will never make any alterations to the actual substance of said comments, all in keeping with WP:TPO.

Oh and here's my archive. If you can't find an old discussion there, I may have moved it to my main page.

Copyvio

In this edit you removed a bunch of text [1] Are you sure it is not this site [2] that is plagiarizing from us? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 06:43, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Restored the content in question. If you look at the images on the JPI website you will notice that all three are from Wikipedia uploaded by different users at different times. This site JPI is copying from us without proper attribution. This by the way is very common. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 06:52, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

My apologies. I very much considered that this could be the case, but since the site said "All rights reserved," I figured we didn't have grounds to assume otherwise without the WMF sending a SLAPP order to JPI. But if there's precedent to the contrary, then I apologize for my ignorance. Just a NPP'er trying to do the right thing. ;) — further, Francophonie&Androphilie sayeth naught (Je vous invite à me parler) 06:56, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sure no worries. This is definitely important work. I have however seen others plagarism more from Wikipedia than the other way around. Check out this as an example [3] and this one here [4]. These where two major textbooks. I have uploaded nearly 2000 medical images and when they are reused am only attributed about half the time :-) Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 07:00, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
By the way here is our site in 09 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=X-ray&oldid=312499823 and the JPI does not look like it was made till 2010 [5] How accurate this last estimate is though I do not know. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 07:07, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Another useful tool is this one. http://www.seologs.com/dns/domain-check.html Their (JPIs) site was created in Jan 2010 yet we already had the content up. Thus an easy way to determine who copied who. Otherwise one needs to go back to see in what single edit did the content appear. Cheers Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 07:12, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The most recent case has not been reported on. Do you know anyone who would be interested? It is a huge problem because people than either 1) try to use these sites as references which gives us a circle 2) people think Wikipedia is the one plagiarizing. Anyway battery dying :-) Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 07:14, 9 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have contact info for Craig Silverman? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (if I write on your page reply on mine) 04:50, 14 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Laurent Gervereau

Help please Francophonie & Androphilie ! We are a group of French students. We begin on Wikipedia. We built an article in French on Laurent Gervereau (artist, novelist, philosopher, specialist of images...). With the help of one French tutor we improved and now the French article is "wikified". It is good

Could you help us to do an English version ? We have worked on it (you may see) but it is very difficult for us and we are not very good in English and in wikifying...

Many thanks ! (PlurofuturoPlurofuturo (talk) 19:29, 10 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Article Laurent Gervereau
Our French version is perfect now with some help we got.
The English one summurise it
Many thanks Francophonie&Androphilie for your first help
It looks better. Could you stop the Speedy deletion nomination ?
There is still one problem : the language. We are not very good in English. Could you help us as you said you are good in French ?
All the best
PlurofuturoPlurofuturo (talk) 07:21, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

PlurofuturoPlurofuturo (talk) 07:03, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Tu as pu relire pour améliorer l'anglais ? Un grand merci en tout cas pour cette aide

PlurofuturoPlurofuturo (talk) 22:46, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Peux-tu ajouter des catégories en copiant sur celles de la page française ? Un très grand merci

PlurofuturoPlurofuturo (talk) 22:20, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bonjour

Merci beaucoup (exhausts French...) I start the day by rolling through the autobiography and large unwikified filters, then CSD-spam. Always good for a few pre-breakfast indefs and deletes (: 07:11, 15 November 2012 (UTC)— Preceding unsigned comment added by Jimfbleak (talkcontribs)

Indeed! I find copyvios to be the most fun myself, in terms of single criteria, but the best are the weird combinations - yesterday I gave an A10/G3, A1/G10, and A1/G11 for three very weird articles. You deleted the A1/G11, actually! (As you can see, I get kind of creepily nerdy about CSDs. I've been thinking of writing an essay on proper CSD tagging.)Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 07:21, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I like the articles which are copyright and spam written under a company username so I can throw in an indef block too Jimfbleak - talk to me? 10:29, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I gotta say, COI-usernames are, for whatever reason, quite possibly the field in which one can expect the quickest admin responses. Generally if I shoot a user a warning for it, check their contributions for any other self-promotion, refresh the article once for good measure, and then check my watchlist, the first entry is a block log notification.Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 10:36, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Block notice

Thanks for the heads up, I've added the block template. James086Talk 12:36, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. :)Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 12:38, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
(This is a very foreboding section title to have on my talk page!)Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 12:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Haha yes, it could easily be misconstrued if someone doesn't read the message, just the title. James086Talk 12:41, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

G1 declined

Hey, F&A! Just wanted to let you know that I've declined the G1 (patent nonsense) tag you put on Instalacion configuracion ardence 4.1. I don't have an excellent command of Spanish myself, but with a little help from Google Translate, it looks like a coherent how-to guide for setting up a computer program. Patent nonsense is generally only for random strings of letters or words (as in word salad, not just poorly-written prose), and definitely doesn't include foreign-language articles. CSD is generally narrowly interpreted, so when in doubt, it's better to not use a speedy deletion tag.

No worries, though! It definitely is a candidate for deletion, since Wikipedia doesn't do how-to guides, so I took off your tag and put a PROD tag on with that concern. No big deal; just wanted to let you know for future reference. Thanks! Writ Keeper 16:06, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

As I noted on the talk page, the G1 was more for the fact that it seemed utterly nonsensical, but I'll confess it seems I didn't take as good a look at the Google Translate results as I should have. So thanks for keeping my overkill in check, though, really, it's times like this where I feel like we need another CSD, though I'm not sure what it should be - the French Wikipedia modified A2 to apply to all foreign-language articles, and I can see the rationale there à la WP:CIR, perhaps.
Sorry. I'm rambling. More importantly, our Spanish friend has unPRODded, and I've, in response, put it up for AfD. Be sure to endorse!Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 16:15, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I saw; I actually edit-conflicted with you nominating it for deletion, which made a whole mess. :P Anyway, I went to the real thing and !voted. I don't know about the French Wikipedia, but I think the logic about foreign-language articles is that, given how big enwiki is, and how spread-out the userbase is, there's a pretty good chance that we have people that can translate the article. Obviously not important in this case, but I think that's the logic for not having a general foreign-language criterion. Anyway, like I said, it's not a big deal either way; AfD will run its course, and no real harm done. :) Writ Keeper 16:32, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Quite so. Wasn't saying we necessarily should adopt that criterion. Just an interesting idea. And haha, yes, I noticed. Same thing happened to me the other day, actually. Twinkle... such a love/hate relationship. My fault, though, for having dawdled in my response... though no harm done in this case, either, of course, and nothing like the occasional edit conflict to keep the blood pumping!Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 16:37, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unwarranted accusation of vandalism

You reverted my edit of David_Suzuki:_The_Autobiography with the notation that it was vandalism. The edits consisted of inserting a space between No. and a numeral, removal of a redundant template, and a spelling change of "labeled" to "labelled". If this constitutes vandalism then I'm a horned toad with pig lips. Your notaion may have been accidental, but certainly not appreciated. Modal Jig (talk) 23:19, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello Modal Jig. From what I see Francophonie&Androphilie was trying to add back this but accidently overwrite your contribution that was made 2 minutes before. Hope that helps. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 23:26, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, Modal. I did not mean to characterize your edit as vandalism. In fact, I was not even aware you had made an edit: I was reverting vandalism that had occurred several edits before and had been overlooked; at the time that I had last refreshed the history page before reverting to my old revision, the most recent edit was User:Mutt Lunker's. Mutt (who was, assuredly, not vandalizing either) had cleaned up some damage from a preceding unexplained removal, but had failed to notice that this removal had occurred (i.e. he thought he was dealing with a simple copy edit, when in reality the reason for the grammar error was that an IP had deleted a chunk of the intro). The point is, because this was a rather complex situation (vandalism by two accounts, partially reverted by two other accounts), I took a minute or two to flip through the diffs to make sure I was causing no collateral damage. Ironically, it was this caution that created the problem, since if I'd restored the last good version earlier, I wouldn't have reverted your wholly constructive changes in doing so. I apologize for not re-checking history before clicking "restore"; I know better than to save a revision without making sure all of my revision-history information is up to date.
That said, I also owe you and the other editors an apology for an unclear edit summary. I should have written something like "removing vandalism already partially reverted" or "removing vandalism by two IPs, along with partial reverts by User:Altaïr and User:Mutt Lunker" - or anything else that would have made clear that I was not accusing any of the obviously good-faith editors of vandalism.
Once again, I apologize for my oversight. Since there's now a complicated edit situation (the "good version" of the page exists partially in your version and partially in mine), I'll now go about the tedious task of merging our edits, as a penance of sorts. Thanks for alerting me to this.Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 23:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I'll leave you to it. Modal Jig (talk) 23:51, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for rollback

Hi Francophonie&Androphilie. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Yunshui  11:32, 16 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I won't stop believing in you — keep up the gorgeous work! Thanks for all you do — especially as such a new editor. :) —Theopolisme 01:29, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Awww thanks. Did I make an edit to a Journey-related page I've forgotten about, or do I just meet the (rather lofty) standards for that reference? ;) (That's not sarcasm, if you were worried... I love that song!)\

Also, I just checked out your page, and I wanted to see how you'd coded something, and wow. Your anti-vandalism measures are so impressive that I'm tempted to vandalize it just to prove that I can. It's beautiful.Francophonie&Androphilie (Je vous invite à me parler) 01:47, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Heh, thanks! Yep, when working in anti-vandalism one must...take steps. :) And no, I don't think you triggered any of my Journey-ish watchlists: rather, you beat me to a couple of speedy deletions! See you 'round, —Theopolisme 04:43, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to see you are getting along with the community, by the way, if you ever need help (probably won't) or would like to chat to some fellow Wikipedians, feel free to join #Wikipedia-cvu connect or other channels like #Wikipedia-en connect on IRC. -- Cheers, Riley Huntley 05:27, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Chretien-Martin Feud

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Chretien-Martin Feud. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – 2004 Liberal Party of Canada infighting. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at 2004 Liberal Party of Canada infighting – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Shawn in Montreal (talk) 02:51, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
