Kanchili (Telugu: కంచిలి) is a village and a Mandal in Srikakulam district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[1]

Kanchili mandal is bordered by Kaviti mandal to the north, Odisha state to the west and Sompeta mandal to the south and east.

Demographics

According to Indian census, 2001, the demographic details of Kanchili mandal is as follows:[2]

  • Total Population: 59,845 in 13,796 Households
  • Male Population: 28,930 and Female Population: 30,915
  • Children Under 6-years of age: 8,369 (Boys - 4,322 and Girls - 4,047)

Etymology

"Kanchili" village has acquired its name from the local village deity "Kanchamma" who is worshiped with devotion by the locals. The residents of Kanchili, as a matter of their social and moral responsibility, renovated the old temple of goddess 'Kanchamma'.In her name they hold a sambaralu (festival) periodically in every Tuesdays and Fridays in summer season this is organised by individuals of the village where anyone can celebrate this festival.Those who reside outside of the village make a trip to Kanchili to attend the colorful festival.but grandly main sambaralu(festival) is celebrated for a period of 12–15 years which was organised by village head persons(GRAMA PEDDALU).

  • DASARA FESTIVAL is celebrated every year in a grand manner.Local Auto union Members organise this festival
  • SRI RAMANAVAMI FESTIVAL is celebrated in this village in railway station grounds every year where RAILWAY OFFICIALS of SOMPETA RAILWAY STATION organise this festival.It is a tradition following since 59 years where many STATION MASTERS working for this station organises this festival.
