Kumar Vishwas (also spelled Vishvas or Vishwas) (born 10 February 1970) is a Hindi poet and a ex-professor of Hindi Literature from Pilkhuwa, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. Of late, he has been associated with Social Works [1] in India.

Career

Kumar Vishvas became a professor in Bharatpur, Rajasthan in 1994. He has taught Hindi Literature to higher class students at Lala Lajpat Rai College for the last sixteen years.[2]. Later, he left the job as a professor and became a full-time Hindi poet and Social activist. [3]

Works and achievements

Vishvas has written Hindi poetry using the Shringara-Ras (Romantic Genre).[4] He wrote the Kul-Geet (university anthem) of Chaudhary Charan Singh University.[5]

He has supported the anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare and on 16 August 2011 this support caused his arrest.[6]. His arrest and detention became a major thrust that propelled the Anna Hazare's movement to a new high. Being a known face among youth, his arrest was protested by thousands of youths.[7].

Performances

Vishvas has performed regularly at Kavi sammelan both in India and abroad. Venues have included the IIT Roorkee,[8] Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi,[9] MNNIT Allahabad,[10] NIT Patna,[11] IIM Lucknow,[12] NIT Jalandhar,[13] NIT Trichy,[14] BITS, Pilani,[15] LNCT Bhopal,[16]

Venues abroad include USA,[17] Dubai,[18] Singapore,[19] and Japan [20]

Politics

As of 2012, Vishwas is a member of the national executive of the Aam Aadmi Party.[21]
