Welcome!

Hello,Abitoby, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

A few suggestions

Hi, I notice that you have managed to get yourself into some hot water already. This is common with new editors. One of the things that you seem to have been confused with is that you are taking ownership of articles. This is something that is not permitted by the copyright license that Wikipedia operates under. Whenever you submit something to Wikipedia, just above the save page button it says "By clicking the "Save Page" button, you agree to the Terms of Use, and you irrevocably agree to release your contribution under the CC-BY-SA 3.0 License and the GFDL". This means that anything you submit no longer belongs to you under that copyright license. This applies to everything we submit to Wikipedia, including this message I am writing.

By tradition, when an editor posts to your talk page it is assumed you have read it if you delete it. Generally, it's preferable to archive talk pages but there's no policy against deleting posts. If you want help with that, I can copy over the template that I use.

My next point will be about reliable sources. Please read the link that I have added here carefully about sourcing. Poor sourcing can lead to an article being deleted through the article for deletion process. Also, I notice that you had some copyright warnings. You must not copy the text from any source and post it to Wikipedia. This puts the foundation in legal danger of being sued for violating copyright by the publishers of the original text. Use the text but rewrite it in your own words. This also leads into two other things to be careful of, which is original research and synthesis of sources. Wikipedia is not for the publishing your own research nor are you permitted to take sources and create your own view point of the material.

Finally, I will point you to the policy on disruptive editing. A very large number of editors have been blocked for violating this policy. Most usually get the point after 1 or 2 blocks, but repeated violations of it by some editors have c aused them to be blocked indefinitely and some have been banned permanenetly from Wikipedia. Please read this link very carefully to avoid the same fate.

Hopefully, that might clear up some of the issues you have been experiencing. I won't be offended if you delete this message as I will assume you have read it, but I sincerely hope that you have a read through the links that I have pointed to otherwise you will be in for a very difficult time here. No consensus for article rename

Your move of Mother Teresa to the new name of Mother Teresa of Calcutta had no prior discussion and no consensus, so I have reverted it. I would suggest that you read Wikipedia:Requested moves and also WP:DE and please discuss potentially controversial actions and edits before making them. Just a tip, please add Edit summaries if possible! --Tito Dutta 10:30, 19 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

About Move

Hi Abitoby, can you please explain, why you moved the article Durga Puja in Orissa to Durga Puja in West Bengal? and before replying please read the article thoroughly atleast once. Thanking you. --Mrutyunjaya Kar (talk) 06:52, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sagarika

Hi Abitoby, please don't move pages without discussion as you did in Sagarika. If you think the page needs to move then start a discussion on talk page. Thanks. Torreslfchero (talk) 13:25, 16 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kolkata image additions

Thanks for your additions of the images to Kolkata, some are really good I must accept. However, it being a Featured Article it is essential to maintain certain standards and quality. If you wish to add any image, it need to be discussed at Talk:Kolkata first, then after receiving consensus, such additions might be considered. Your contributed article, Acting President of India

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Acting President of India. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Vice President of India. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Vice President of India – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Suri 100 (talk) 01:01, 12 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not move a page to a title that is harder to follow, or move it unilaterally against naming conventions or consensus, as you did to Jeet Gannguli. This includes making page moves while a discussion remains under way. We have some guidelines to help with deciding what title is best for a subject. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Thank you. TitoDutta 09:18, 26 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

India

I just wanted to let you know that while adding images to an article is usually okay (though you have to be careful not to add too many), on featured articles, it's usually best to ask first on the talk page, since image review is one of the aspects of the FA review process. This is especially true on India, which is the most viewed FA, and on which pictures have long been contentious, and it's really important that we get consensus first before changing or adding them--we really have to be careful not to overemphasize certain things. So you are welcome to propose adding those pics on the talk page if you want. Qwyrxian (talk) 13:32, 18 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. NeilN talk to me 02:16, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Amartyabag. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Kolkata because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, you can use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Kindly note image addition in a Featured article should generally be made after a discussion. The image added by you has unclear copyright notices and missing Metadata/EXIF info. Amartyabag TALK2ME 14:30, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You also need to turn down your peacock prose. Describing something as "a beauty" is not encyclopedic. --NeilN talk to me 16:18, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

KMOMA

Hi! Thanks for creating the article on KMOMA. I have recently observed that you are overcategorising the articles. It is perfect to add only the most relevant sub-categories and not use the main category in the article. For example, for KMOMA, there is no need to add the category "Kolkata", adding "Museums in Kolkata" is enough, as the later is sub-cat of the former. Use common sense while adding the categories. For sake of simplicity, use the most relevant sub-category you can find. Let me know, if you need any further assistance or help. Amartyabag TALK2ME 06:43, 23 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon One of your user pages, by reason of its contents, was accidentally included in a content category. It has been corrected for you. Page moves

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Amartyabag TALK2ME 06:32, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I would request you to kindly go through the manual on naming geographic names of places Wikipedia:Naming conventions (geographic names). For your convenience, until an unless there are two places having similar names, there is no need for adding the state name to the name of the place. Even in certain cases, for example, Durgapur, where there are multiple places with similar names, the place which will be the most popular (primary article) may be used without any disambiguation. I will request you not to move the articles which does not need any kind of disambiguation. If you feel a set of article need to be renamed or moved, use Wikipedia:Requested moves instead. I would also request to undo the wrong moves you have made. Kindly note that mass moving of articles without consensus may be considered as vandalism and the administrators may take appropriate measures including blocking you. If you have any kind of questions or confusion, drop me a message at my talk page. Amartyabag TALK2ME 06:54, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Use correct Infobox

I was going through the article on WBHIDCO, where I observed that you have used a wrong infobox. To find out the correct infobox, you can either find an article with similar topic or please find a relevant infobox from Wikipedia:List of infoboxes. Please let me know if you are facing any problem in editing the articles. Amartyabag TALK2ME 07:10, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
