Proportional Representation Editting
Hey Ontario, I have reverted your recent mass revert based on the WP:BRD process. You and BalCoder have had issues in working collaboratively but if needed, I will request that the page be fully protected for a period of 6 months due to your edit-warring with Balcoder, and vice versa, due to your lengthy absences between edits. This will mean that you will have to ask an Admin to make the edits for you via Edit fully-protected templates which will require discussion with Balcoder and other editors on your changes per WP:Edit requests.<br/>It has also been suggested to you that you go through each paragraph section, one at a time, and explain why your changes for that section are acceptable by Wikipedia Policies, Guidelines and common sense, and that the changes are reliably sourced - perhaps by using the various cite templates available, with their <code>|quote= (insert supporting text here)</code> parameter. This second option will preclude a full-protection, but not eliminate possible page-protection, and will hopefully be productive in improving the PR article.<br/>Wishing you an easy and collaborative discussion about the PR article, Drcrazy102 (talk) 00:22, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Edits and Reversions by User:BalCoder and User:Ontario Teacher BFA BEd on Proportional Representation

Collapse for ease of navigation. EdJohnston (talk) 20:42, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The following discussion has been closed. Please do not modify it.

Please see Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#New user Ontario Teacher BFA BEd, article Proportional representation. In the past, the article on Proportional representation has been subject to disputes. Your recent edits have been questioned, and a user is asking for administrators to take action against you. You can reply at the above link if you wish. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 15:45, 2 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me of the complaint filed against me at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#New user Ontario Teacher BFA BEd, article Proportional representation. I understand users are required to notify other users if they file a complaint against them. This was not done by BalCoder as the complaint was filed in bad faith. This user has engaged in unacceptable conduct such as vandalism, incivility, personal attacks, and harassment in violation of WP's conduct policy Wikipedia:List of policies. Thank you again for informing me of this egregious behaviour. Ontario Teacher BFA BEd (talk) 00:46, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ed, I was wondering if you know of any Admins who are interested in Politics/Voting Systems who would be able to help mediate and settle the dispute. The two users are reverting each other and I have attempted some basic mediation without much effect. Any help appreciated (even suggestions), Dr Crazy 102 (talk) 08:39, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I left a note at User talk:Ontario Teacher BFA BEd. If you have time to do so, it would be helpful if someone (anyone) could list out on the talk page what some of the questions are that are in dispute. Eventually someone could open an WP:RFC for one or more disputed items. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 14:17, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello EdJohnston ,

I recently added a table explaining the three electoral systems as: Proportional Representation Systems, Mixed Member Systems, and Plurality/Majority Systems.

Proportional Representation Systems Mixed Member Systems Plurality/Majority Systems
Single Transferable Vote Mixed Member Proportional First Past the Post
Party List Proportional Representation (closed/open/local) Alternative Vote Plus Alternative Vote/Instant-runoff voting
Additional Member System Block Vote
Majority Bonus System Limited Vote
Supplementary Vote
Two-Round System
Borda Count

These systems already existed in the Proportional Representation article prior to my contributions. I have also added a plethora of sources substantiating this information.[1][2] [3][4][5][6]: 22 [7][8][9][10][11] User:BalCoder is the only editor who has disagreed with my contributions. Additionally, he/she has refused to provide any sourced information to substantiate his/her opinions. I would welcome a mediation process. I would also welcome any editor who is willing to put the time and effort into providing sourced contributions to the article. In the mean time, I would appreciate it if Balcoder would leave the article alone while awaiting an Admin. Ontario Teacher BFA BEd (talk) 20:33, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please clarify which Block vote you mean on PR

Hey Ontario, could you please provide a clarified link to the desired "block vote" for the edit request. Don't edit the original request, but please provide the link underneath the request. Thanks, Dr Crazy 102 (talk) 01:20, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Ontario Teacher. It's good that you want to make contributions. It's bad that you appear to see the other contributors as a mere annoyance in your path. There is no substitute for getting WP:CONSENSUS. If you are all well-intentioned, that should be doable. EdJohnston (talk) 20:42, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello EdJohnston, I welcome and appreciate the feedback and contributions from other editors. This is why I have, in good faith, sought and continue to seek a WP:CONSENSUS on the Talk:Proportional representation page. However, there is one specific editor who has chosen to arbitrarily reverted any and all of the content I have posted, regardless of how noncontroversial it is. Updates to the article in regards to which nations currently use PR have been reverted. For instance, Russia switched from List PR to MMP in 2014. [12] This sourced update was reverted without explanation. In particular, minor edits Help:Minor edit that I have made that only pertain to spelling and grammar errors and the addition of Wiki-links Help:Link to the appropriate articles have also been reverted without explanation. Thank you for your assistance in the mediation process. Ontario Teacher BFA BEd (talk) 22:00, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You are risking a block for edit warring

Hello Ontario Teacher. Some time back your name was reported at WP:ANI claiming you were engaged in disruptive editing. I followed up with a discussion that is now on your talk page at User talk:Ontario Teacher BFA BEd#Copy of discussion from EdJohnston's talk page. Now I see on 28 October you added again a large block of material resembling the one you previously added on 17 September. Since the discussion on the talk page does not show anyone agreeing with you, your persistence qualifies as edit warring. Your edit summary, "Restore updated version", must be a hint that your opponents are hopelessly behind the times and can't keep up with the self-evident logic of your superior version. In spite of my advice you did not wait for consensus but just forced your version into the article. Can you explain why you should not be blocked for edit warring? Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 01:04, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

EdJohnston,

You have stated "Since the discussion on the talk page does not show anyone agreeing with you". This is incorrect. For instance, User:Drcrazy102 suggested restoring the table on electoral systems that I implemented. You have also stated "Your edit summary, "Restore updated version", must be a hint that your opponents are hopelessly behind the times and can't keep up with the self-evident logic of your superior version." To be clear, there are not opponents (plural) on this issue; only one opponent. The only user who has disagreed with my contributions on this article is User:BalCoder. This user has provided zero sources to substantiate his/her opinion whereas I have provided over 30 on the talk page alone! No one has agreed with BalCoder on the talk page to justify his/her reversions. Furthermore, User:BalCoder has engaged in intentionally uncivilized behaviour such as calling me an "unscrupulous liar" (27 Sep 2015). Please review the tone of discussion on the Talk:Proportional representation page as well, which user has provided all of the sources, and the suggestion by User:Drcrazy102 to include the information table.Ontario Teacher BFA BEd (talk) 07:28, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Considering I get mentioned twice here, both times on reference to an old edit request, I'll update my position on said table.

You can't copy or closely emulate another table from a published source. I retracted support for said request, considered an alternative but found out that it was already in the article. Cheers, Drcrazy102 (talk) 13:20, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked

Stop icon with clock
You have been blocked from editing for a period of 24 hours for edit warring and violating the three-revert rule at Proportional representation. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text below this notice: .

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.

Replaceable fair use File:Joe Carter 1993 World Series Game 6.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Joe Carter 1993 World Series Game 6.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the file description page and add the text below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
 2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. January (talk) 10:55, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
