Juan Diego Puerta Lopez (Born 25 october 1974) is a Colombian director, active in the field of film and theater, who lives in Italy.

Biography

Born in La Estrella, Colombia. in his country, He studied theater at the “Escuela Popular de Artes de Medellín” and contemporary dance at the “Academia Superior de Artes de Bogotá” headed by maestro "Alvaro Restrepo". From 1992 to 1994 he had been part of the Ex-Fanfarria Theater Company, founded by Jose Manuel Freidel, one of the most representative of the avant-garde theater in Colombia. He Participated in the creation of the play: “La visita” directed by Victor Viviescas, “Romance del Bacán y la Maleva” directed by Fernando Zapata Abadia. During 1995 he toured in Colombia, USA and Italy with the play “Aguirre, la espiral del guerrero” directed by Federico Restrepo. In 1996 he moved to Rome. He attended the theater workshop at The National Academy of Dramatic Art Silvio D'Amico headed by Luigi Maria Musati. He also worked with other Theater companies and directors. Since 1999 he started his own dance-theater path by staging the plays: "Onoff" (1999), "pretexto" (2001), "phrenetic" (2003). In 2005 he debuted with the performance of theater-dance "Meat" at the "Festival dei due mondi" in Spoleto, affecting both the public and critics. In 2006 he directs the play "Tales of Common Insanity" by Petr Zelenka produced by the Festival “Quartiere dell’Arte” in co-production with "Outis" and the "Centro sperimentale di cinematografia" headed by Giancarlo Giannini. In the same year he collaborated with the "National Itaian Film School", directs the Play “Pretesti” during the "Cultural summer" of Colombia in Italy with the collaboration of the Lazio Region, the Province of Rome, the House of Literature of the City of Rome, l’Istituto Italo Latino Americano IILA. In 2007 he created the choreography for the play “Il Suono del Distacco” directed by Franco Rossi and with the participation of Giovanni Lindo Ferretti. In the same year he directed the play “Matrimoni” by Bepi Vigna in the “Festival Fabbrica dell’Uomo 2007” produced by the National Centre of Contemporary Drama Outis. In the theatrical season 2008/09 directs the play premiered “Il Sapore della Cenere” by Ariel Dorfman inspired by the book of Kerry Kennedy "Speak truth to power", with a special appearance in the video of Piera Degli Esposti, Enrico Lo Verso and Alessandro Preziosi , sponsored by the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation of Europe Onlus, in coproduction with Khora Theatre and the Museum of Contemporary Art "Luigi Pecci" (Prato). In the same 2008 he directed “On - il corpo ascolta la mente si spoglia" a multisensory performance with the extraordinary participation of Piera Degli Esposti. In collaboration with the Municipality of Rome. In 2010 creates the choreography of “Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands” by Jorge Amado with Caterina Murino, Pietro Sermonti and Paolo Calabresi, touring season 2009/10 and 2010/11. in 2010 directs the play “La nuit juste avant les forêts” by Bernard-Marie Koltès with Claudio Santamaria, original music by Giuliano Sangiorgi Negramaro, produced by "Nuovo teatro", touring season 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. In 2011 directs the play “the Lonesome WestMartin McDonagh with Claudio Santamaria, Filippo Nigro , Nicole Murgia and Massimo De Santis, touring season 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. In 2012 he directs and produces a video with director Andrés Arce Maldonado for the Lega del Filo d'Oro with Rosalinda Celentano and Simona Borioni. In 2013 he directs the play in the first national "End of the Rainbow" by Peter Quilter with Monica Guerritore, on the bill in the 2013/2014 season. In the same year he founded the Theatre Company JDPL Project, directed by him, with 22 young actors, with whom he has directed the play "Domestica" and "City Park" by Luca De Bei. In 2014 he received the "International Award of Anna Magnani" for best theater director in 2014. during the 71st International Exhibition of Venice Biennale. In 2014, He organize the marathon of reading "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez,and also directs an imaginary interview with Garcia Marquez, starring Massimo Dapporto. In 2015 is chosen among the 100 Colombians who have distinguished themselves for excellence in the world and have achieved great fame for his work at the international level, the ceremony took place in the Casa de Nariño in Bogotá, attended by the President of Colombia Juan Manuel Santos, who conferred the prestigious award.
