Just wondering ... does [[Wikipedia:Fastily effect]] have anything to do with you? I was thinking of nominating that page for [[WP:MFD]], but I thought to run it by you first. List of intelligence agencies of the United Kingdom

Hi Fastily. Is the use of non-free images at List of intelligence agencies of the United Kingdom#Current agencies within policy? — JJMC89(T·C) 05:12, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@JJMC89: Should do. As the non-free images are protected by crown law, there is no way to replace them with free images. Doesn't seem to breach any of the 10 WP:NFCCP's. -- Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 05:21, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As there is no contextual significance and critical commentary for each and every one of those files, I would say that there is a violation of WP:NFCC#3b and WP:NFCC#8. File:National Fraud Intelligence Bureau.png may be eligible for {{PD-ineligible-USonly}}, but the rest should be nominated for deletion/removal at WP:FFD -FASTILY 07:08, 30 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I missed your reply. I've nominated the others at FFD. — JJMC89(T·C) 19:55, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Technical news

  • When performing some administrative actions the reason field briefly gave suggestions as text was typed. This change has since been reverted so that issues with the implementation can be addressed. (T34950)
  • Following the latest RfC concluding that Pending Changes 2 should not be used on the English Wikipedia, an RfC closed with consensus to remove the options for using it from the page protection interface, a change which has now been made. (T156448)
  • The Foundation has announced a new community health initiative to combat harassment. This should bring numerous improvements to tools for admins and CheckUsers in 2017.

Hi,

I thought G2 did not apply to pages in userspace? I'm also not even certain deletion was intended. The move appeared to be a test. Adam9007 (talk) 02:14, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Adam9007. Rchabes moved a test page with no content (only a sandbox header) into the main space, where it was tagged {{Db-g2}}. Noticed you moved it back to their userspace, but didn't message them, so how would they even know it's back in their user space? This was a housekeeping action, but if you want it back I can certainly restore it. -FASTILY 02:29, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It was a user sandbox which was mistakenly (I assume) moved into mainspace, so I moved it back. I don't want it back (why would I?), but I believe WP:G2 says it does not apply to pages in userspace? Also, I thought it was tagged U1, but I could be mistaken. Adam9007 (talk) 02:36, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You're right about G2 not applying to the user space, so I've updated the log accordingly. And yes, it was tagged {{Db-user}}, but not by the original author. -FASTILY 02:41, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure that was strictly necessary (this sort of talk, in my experience, is normally considered a waste of time). But yes, G2 does not apply to userspace. Having my own entry in the deletion log also feels rather strange... Adam9007 (talk) 03:03, 4 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bot idea

Hey a bot idea struck me recently. Is it possible to tell a bot to use TinEye and see if an image existed non-locally before it did locally? The idea being that the bot could patrol "own work" files and tag them "Dubious self work" (probably have a matienence category) if it found that. Is it possible? Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 00:07, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Iazyges. Probably not. If I remember correctly, this was suggested in the past, but was rejected because TinEye is not a free service for bots and because there is no straightforward way for a bot to determine if the file originated on Wikipedia. -FASTILY 01:48, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
