Monét X Change (born March 23, 1990)[citation needed] is the stage name of Kevin Bertin,[1] an American drag queen and television personality. He is best known for competing on the tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, on which he ultimately placed sixth and won Miss Congeniality.

Early life

Bertin was born in Brooklyn, New York City, on March 23, 1990.[2] He later moved to The Bronx.[3] The first drag pageant he won was the sixth annual Gay Caribbean USA Pageant on September 27, 2014, representing Saint Lucia.[4] His drag mother is Honey Davenport.[5]

Career

Monét X Change was announced as one of fourteen contestants competing on the tenth season of RuPaul's Drag Race on February 22, 2018.[6] She was in the bottom two in the fourth and fifth episode with Dusty Ray Bottoms then Mayhem Miller. She won both the lip syncs between them, and lost in her third lip sync to Kameron Michaels in episode ten.[7][8][9] She was named Miss Congeniality during the season's finale.[10]

During episode one of the show, Monét X Change sewed a dress of kitchen sponges for the first runway challenge.[11] She referenced the dress in further episodes of season ten. Fellow competitor Yuhua Hamasaki created her own sponge dress for sale, and donated the proceeds to Callen-Lorde.[12][13] A sponge themed pin was available for sale on her website after the episode.[14] The official Twitter of Spongebob SquarePants referenced X Change in one of their tweets.[15]
