NEW NOMINATIONS

Category:People of the Polish–Teutonic War (1519–1521) (German side)

Nominator's rationale: Seems a bit redundant for only one item. Gonnym (talk) 19:54, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:People by city or town in County Dublin

Nominator's rationale: Superfluous intermediate category. County Dublin was abolished in 1994. These places are all categorised properly in the 3 new counties. Rathfelder (talk) 19:48, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Dublin County Council was abolished as a local govt entity, but County Dublin still exists for many other administrative purposes and is widely used as an informal geographical area -- which it does very well, having defined boundaries which have been stable for over 400 years.
Note that the parent Category:County Dublin exists, and has almost 100 eponymous subcats. There is no reason to rip out one part of this established series. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:56, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Correction: I just checked, and Category:County Dublin actually has 122 subcats which include the words "County Dublin".
It's a pity that @Rathfelder didn't take a minute to study the category structure before making this nomination. Even a few seconds to navigate to v shoukd have been enough. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 20:03, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Burntisland Shipyard Amateur F.C. players

Nominator's rationale: For consistency with the article on the club, Burntisland Shipyard F.C.. Jellyman (talk) 15:15, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Association football players who received a testmonial

Nominator's rationale: Less than realistic misspelling, coming from an error when someone made a mistake before moving it to the real category. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 14:44, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Eurovision Song Contest entrants of country

Nominator's rationale: Stemming from previous conversations about the issues with this existing naming convention, I am seeking to rename these so that the entrants aren't assigned a nationality. Each country in the contest can choose whoever they want to represent them. The point of these categories is simply to group entrants who have represented a specific country, not to group people of a specific national background. The category name is thus misleading. About 10 years ago, other categories that faced this issue were renamed in this same fashion. This appears to be the only one on my radar that was missed. Please see here for the discussion that lead to fixing the "song" category and also the larger discussion here that originally got us thinking. Grk1011 (talk) 14:34, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom. Especially true for countries whose demonym is a sensitive issue or not necessarily a synonym for the nationality, such as British and Irish. dummelaksen (talk) 14:57, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Suppert with one change: "Eurovision Song Contest entrants of Macedonia" should be "Eurovision Song Contest entrants of North Macedonia" to reflect the country's name as of February 2019. IceWelder [] 15:08, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. I wrote that on the category page itself, but apparently didn't carry it over onto this page. Grk1011 (talk) 15:12, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Support per nom. KingSkyLord (talk | contribs) 19:55, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Deaths due to air raids

Nominator's rationale: Duplicate with different term. Cavrdg (talk) 10:37, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Television shows shot in Bihar

Nominator's rationale: There is no established category tree for television shows shot in a particular location, and these categories have just one and two pages, respectively. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 03:39, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is Category:Television_series_by_country_of_shooting_locationPrisencolin (talk) 04:33, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Rivers named after discoverer's ship

Nominator's rationale: Per WP:SHAREDNAME
This one is pretty self-explanatory. - RevelationDirect (talk) 01:05, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Fictional American people of Assyrian descent

Nominator's rationale: Per the spirit of WP:C1, an unpopulated category
This tree only has one article, Yossarian, who is a character in two of Joseph Heller's novels, Catch-22 and its sequel Closing Time. The main article has a relevant passage for this nomination:
Catch-22 introduces Yossarian as an American soldier in World War II with Assyrian heritage, although Closing Time clarifies this to be a joke and that his heritage and surname are in fact Armenian.
An alternate approach here would be for me to just empty the category but I wanted to make sure we had consensus since the character seems Assyrian in the first book. - RevelationDirect (talk) 00:49, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. This example also raises the question whether we should categorize fictional characters by descent at all. A character's descent is a so minor characteristic that authors can easily change their mind about it without changing the character as a whole. Marcocapelle (talk) 14:09, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Marcocapelle sums it up nicely. Previous bulk nominations have closed as no consensus, but as noted at the one at the most recent nom there have been no nominations covering the entire tree. –LaundryPizza03 (d) 18:49, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
