- The United Kingdom general election results in a hung parliament, with the Conservative Party winning the most seats.
- The tanker MV Moscow University is freed by the Russian Navy after being hijacked by pirates off the coast of Somalia.
- A coalition government led by the Mauritian Labour Party wins the country's general election; Navin Ramgoolam remains prime minister.
- Ajmal Kasab, a Pakistani national, is sentenced to death by an Indian court for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
