Please at your remarks on the upgrade on above article range.
Sailing at the 1972 Summer Olympics
- Finn was for Men only, not Mixed. (Events to be updated). - Perhaps useful to say that 1972 Olympics were the fist time with all boats "One design". (But, if comments take place in the main article only, forget it !) --Barbetorte (talk) 06:46, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- I will mention the one design in the 1972 page. Thanks for the idea.
- On the men only. Are you sure about that? I know the facts for the whole sailing in 1972 was men only. But was it really restricted. I can not find that in the official reports or in my memory. I know that as a girl you are not in the right state of mind try to sail the heavy Finn at Olympic level but was it prohibitat? As far as I know all (sailing) Olympics up to 1988 were gender independent. Also on some websites there was som retro enginering done to bring the past more in line with the present:-). Please help me to find the right answer? Regards NED33 (talk) 08:28, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- I (in french Wikipedia somebody else noted it) found that in ISAF site. It looks like an exception. --Barbetorte (talk) 09:34, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- I keep looking. In other archieves as well.NED33 (talk) 12:08, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- The officiel report of the German Olympic committee showes the gender in the results of all sports. At sailing there is no mentioning of gender specificness in the classes. I propose to keep it as it is. Okay?NED33 (talk) 09:42, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Sailing/Yachting is a Olympic sport starting from the Games of the 1st Olympiad (1886 Olympics in Athens Greece). With the exception of 1904 and possible 1916 sailing was always a part of the Olympic program.
The Sailing program of 1924 consisted of a total of three sailing classes (disciplines). For each class a series of elimination and semi-final races was scheduled, from July 10 - 25, at Meulan at the river Seine, for the French National Monotype class, and on the English Channel off the coast of Le Havre for the Metre classes.

Meulan was the venue for the Olympic regatta's in the French National Monotype. The host club for the 1924 Olympic Sailing at Meulan was the Cercle de la Voile de Paris. Like in 1900 the race conditions at Meulan during the Olympic regatta were not ideal. The light breeze during the first elimination series could hardly make the sailing interesting. When the wind picked up in the second series the conditions must have improved. During the first semi-final the wind came from South East. As a result the yachts could sail most of the course without tacking or jibing, therefore not challenging the capabilities of the sailors. In the second semi-final however the wind shifted to East-North-East so that tacking was needed in the final legs of the laps.
Le Havre

Le Havre was the venue for the Olympic regattas for the 6 and 8 Metre. The host club for the 1924 Olympic Sailing at Le Havre was the Société des Régates du Havre. Due to the Easterly winds the courses at Le Havre were mostly reachable. As result sailing a windward leg was not really tested. This however was more or less custom for that time.

Please get consensus for your changes
You seem to be using your talk page as a sandbox, but this is still the best place for me to contact you, I presume.
Please seek consensus from WP:WikiProject Olympics before making changes to the Olympic sailing articles. You are attempting to change the common style in use for hundreds of articles, and you are not following the MOS. We appreciate the help of having a new editor add to these articles, but please do not create excessive cleanup work by not conforming to the standard style. Thanks — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 15:54, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- I see some of the new 1972 per-event pages you've created, and they look good, but they still need a bit of work. I will make a series of edits to Sailing at the 1972 Summer Olympics – Finn with detailed edit summaries, as I think this might be the best way for me to list the style changes. Let me know if you have any questions. — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 16:23, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm looking much forward to the changes. As you probably understand I found in the last year severe shortcomings, incompleatness and errors in the Olympic Sailing History. I collected reasonable amount of documentations and talked with Sailors who went to Olymics since 1960. I'm working with user: Barbetorte as soundingboard. Furthermore I also place a note on the Discussion page of a artickle on Sailing at the .... Summer Olympics. Thanks again for your remarks and help. NED33 (talk) 16:30, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- I think I'm done with the 1972 Finn page, if you want to use that as an example for the others. Thanks — Andrwsc (talk · contribs) 18:35, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Drawings of sailboats at Olympics
Hi. I just added File:12mR 1907.svg. You can use this drawing for 12mR from 1907 to ...1927, as gaff rig was in use up to 1928, when Marconi rig replaced gaff rig. I will draw files for 6mR and 8mR, but I think 2 versions of each. Regards, --Barbetorte (talk) 20:07, 6 June 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks, besides your skills what tools do you use to create thes drawings? NED33 (talk) 07:52, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Inkscape, free and no cost. It is easy to download in few minutes from his web site and easy to use. 99% of svg (vector drawings) on CC are made with Inkscape. You can inport a bitmap drawing and draw lines on it, save it as svg (even with bitmap included) and after (always) remove the bitmap base, only keeping the vectors. I think your first training will be to move your Soling bitmap drawing into a svg file ! You can load my svg drawing about Olympic 1972 classes, and load your bitmap drawing on the same page, and just keep the Soling drawing you want ...Bonne chance, I remember the beginning was the worst time, sometimes texts are annoying ! Dont forget to test your svg drawing on your own PC by loading your file on your web browser, without Inkscape. --Barbetorte (talk) 10:31, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
