Thank you for your explaination, but this still doesnt seem straighforward. If Wikipedia is a open forum (with guidelines) then why after ive stated my case is there no discussion upon it and my valid article is removed? [[User:Rockgod89|Rockgod89]] 02:13, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Lycanthrope/Lycanthropy

I will keep this pretty straight forward. Considering your rudeness, this is not the time and place for tender words that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

1st: Do not assume you speak for the entire wiki community, you don't
2nd: If you are not interested in settling a resulting dispute, do not revert changes. This wiki relies on different opinions and compromises reached. It's not your way or the highway.
3rd: Do not make people chase you to your own user page to settle disputes. This is rude at best.
4th: Do not tell others to go look up a certain wiki _guideline_ until you have read all the wiki guidlines (especially the one your are referring to) yourself. You might want to go look up the dispute guidelines right now.

5th: "because it messes up my other article" is not a valid point when editing articles

I respectfully invite you to my talk page to reach a compromise and perhaps solve this issue. You will find I replied to your post there two days ago agreeing that you are (at least) partially right. LoneWolfJack 10:42, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've answered on your talk page. Next time, add talk messages to the bottom of my talk page instead of the top and I'll see them sooner. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 02:30, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question on the Lists of films

Hi Mermaid from the Baltic Sea, please take this as a simple question from an interested ProjectFilm member. I am working on the Lists of films, in particular by year, whereas Nehrams2020, in particular by letter. We plan to also start a list for "red" films (without an article), in a way that users can either "adopt" a film to develop, or classify it to films not worth developing. I see you have added lots of basic stubs in your area of interest. Do you have material that you plan to add to them eventually? There is somewhere a very incomplete list of basic film stubs to develop. Maybe it would be worth to merge it also in the lists of films, as a new list (film articles to develop), specifically for people wanting to develop film articles to at least class start status. Since you are quite active lately in the film project, I would appreciate your view or suggestions on our effort. Hoverfish 07:35, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, thank you for your contribution in the Lists of films. I am trying to bring up the issue of raising this article to category, so the more comprehensive it becomes the better. There are so many incomplete parallel lists as categories that we could merge to it. As it is, one feels lost looking here and there to find listings and categories. Hoverfish 08:38, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your plans sound like a good idea to me. I know "red" films aren't supposed to be on the regular lists, but making a list just for them as a helping tool for project members sounds like a good idea. Raising the article to category status also seems good. I know that some of the film lists are very similar, I tried to group those near each other when I could so that people would be more likely to think about merging them (the best example is probably the alien film list, extraterrestrial film list and UFO film list, grouped under Lists_of_films#By_creature). I'm pretty new at this, though, so I might not be the best person to ask about whether your plans will work well with the Wikiproject. As to my own plans, I'm planning on later expanding some of the stubs I've created, though right now it's more of a priority to make sure the stubs I've made have the proper wiki-links pointing to them from other articles so they aren't orphaned or nearly orphaned, and to make sure all the stubs I've planned to make (Mexican monster movies such as the remaining Santo and Paul Naschy films, plus the "red" films remaining on Werewolves in fiction#Films) are created in the first place. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 14:18, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I noticed the nature of your efforts. You're doing a great job. Consider posting in the Lists of films Talk page. It may bring more help from others or align their efforts. Your name would also be quite useful to find in Category:Participants_in_WikiProject_Films. Enjoy your editing time. Hoverfish 15:23, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Creating subpages

In case you would like, click on this: User:Mermaid from the Baltic Sea/Sandbox, start editing and you have a subpage you can work in. You can create also other subpages if you substitute Sandbox with other names. All you need then is to link to it (them) from your User page. Hoverfish 17:10, 22 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Werewolf flops

You've linked a bunch of werewolf films to "Entertainment flops," or at least that's what I assume from seeing several obscure werewolf films on the category page, then checking and finding that you had added at least two of them. While I appreciate the thought, I don't think you can really say that a B-movie like "Werewolf" is as big of a flop as, say, "Battlefield Earth" or "Waterworld," which both had considerable budgets and supposed reasons to succeed at the box office. I'm going to delete most of them from the list; if you can come up with a plausible reason as to why these films should be included, feel free to add them again. Sillstaw 05:17, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I was under the impression that "entertainment flops" included anything that was highly notorious for being bad entertainment, not just films with big budgets. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 19:46, 31 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Red list under way

Just saw your biker list. Good idea. Lots of red links. I am preparing the "adoption" page. If you have any comments, please let me know. I'm sure it will come handy for many lists. By the way where did you find that red links shouldn't come in lists? Hoverfish 22:08, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I thought that at some point I had read that red-links shouldn't be in the big list of lists (at Lists of films), but now I can't figure out where I may have read that. Maybe I'm wrong about that. I do know that red-links are allowed on the regular lists-of-films pages.Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 22:12, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The list has been created in Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/List of films without article. I hope you find it useful. By the way I remove the link to my sandbox above, since the content has changed since. Hoverfish 15:53, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I've added it to my watch list. I'm going to be extra-busy for several weeks, so I might not get much done anytime soon. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 16:37, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Glad you find it useful. The aquatic life-forms of the film project are wishing you a nice time. Hoverfish 23:53, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AfD Nomination: In the Blood

I've nominated the article In the Blood for deletion under the Articles for deletion process. We appreciate your contributions, but in this particular case I do not feel that In the Blood satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion. I have explained why in the nomination space (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/In the Blood. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them. You are free to edit the content of In the Blood during the discussion, but please do not remove the "Articles for Deletion" template (the box at the top). Doing so will not end the discussion. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 22:33, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for telling me this. I'm sorry that you feel it doesn't qualify. If it does get deleted, I've saved the original text in my Sandbox so that it could be re-created months later if more concrete evidence that it is truly being made shows up.Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 22:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No hard feelings. These articles can always be recreated if production starts up again. Something like 30 Days of Night is very much underway compared to this one. In the meantime, you could create a In the Blood comic article and have the film adaptation in a section of it. --Erik (talk/contrib) @ 22:44, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Could I now rewrite the current In the Blood article to be primarily about the comic, with a small section mentioning that a future film has been announced? Or should I wait until the deletion debate is over and then (if neccessary) create a new In the Blood article like that?Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 22:54, 24 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Werewolves

Hi Mermaid! I've changed 'Werewolves in fiction' to 'Werewolf fiction'. Hope that meets with your approval. As we have discussed on the Talk Page the article is in no way perfect, but I guess if we pool our respective knowledges about fictional werewolves we might get somewhere... As I see it the werewolf is respectively the subject of folklore, fairy tales, gothic fiction and latterly fantasy fiction (werewolves as a fantasy race). Though this latter category of cod-mythologising is dominant in the mass market media at the present time, I don't think that it is necessarily the be all and end all of the subject: for instance I thought those recent Canadian films about those two sisters one of whom turns into a werewolf was an interesting take on the subject: a psychological (and gynecological...) rather than mythological approach.... Notice

This is to inform you that Wikipedia:WikiProject Films/Categorization has started. Any contributions in further developing it are warmly welcome. Hoverfish Talk 15:42, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, lists are meant to give some presentation, have some extra notes after the entries, explain itself as a list, etc. Some lists do this and they are useful. However many lists are just doing what categories do, but in many cases all the items of a list haven't yet been given the category. So we'll have to deal with it individually or generally. In good time I hope a clear guideline will be formulated. By the way, the work you did in the Lists of films is of big value to help categorizing and subcategorizing. Hoverfish Talk 21:01, 27 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you're welcome to change the article to be an RfD, but have you read it? It reads to me like the ramblings of a teenager who wants to add an artile about a friend (or fellow pupil) he calls "Eth Bombo" that "he discovered". I also Google'd for it - nothing! Stephenb (Talk) 20:10, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly, the article does sound terrible. But some of the local names for hominoid cryptids are quite obscure, so I don't agree that it is necessarily absolute nonsense. I do agree that it probably needs to go (either deleted as not notable enough, or merged into a minor mention in passing in some other hominoid cryptid article) but it would be nice to give the cryptozoology community a chance to look into it first, just to make sure. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 20:16, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, as I say, you're welcome to remove the speedy tag, but I also Google'd Pethcothian (nothing) and, as a regular reader of Fortean Times I can't say I remember reading about this one (though, as you say, there are many such mythical creatures, and I don't read every Karl Shuker article!). 11 feet tall, though..? Stephenb (Talk) 20:23, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I remember reading about some hominoid cryptid 12 feet tall that is supposed to roam about in Washinton D.C., so there is a small possibility that this could be a related (misspelled?) critter. And, I think I vaguely recall some cryptid that started with an "Eth" sound (though I don't think it was a hominoid type). Still, it seems that every state has 10 or 11 local names for these things, and obviously they don't all deserve an article. The "Penthcothian" bit is obvious nonsense, but I've seen nonsense just as bad in other cryptozoology stubs. It's a pretty sad article, but I wanted to give it a chance, which is what the 5 days allowed by proposed deletion will do. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 20:30, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I do read every Karl Shuker article and I've never heard of this, nor have I heard of it from any CZ discussion groups I'm on. Shall we continue this discussion at the article page, instead of across several userpages? Totnesmartin 22:07, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, lets. The original user just removed the prod, so I think it should go to AfD next. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 22:09, 2 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

advertising

I just made some small updates to the trAce page and you marked it as sounds like advertising. Could you explain which parts seem like advertising and I will take another look at them? thanks Sunlight40 09:02, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's not your edits, the entire article is written in the same tone as an advertisement. Don't worry, the template is designed to attract editors to the problem. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 09:07, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. Sunlight40 09:09, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some points on your infoboxes

First, congrats for the nice new display and choice of boxes. Box "Philosopher" + box "Friendly" => I would like to share with you my work on God Speaks#The Birth of Consciousness (up to Syncretism), which I connect rather to (ontological) philosophy than to religion (Meher Baba said all this should not become a new religion). The question that I would like to ask (if you are interested to check it out) is: do you find this "hard to understand" (which I often hear)? Or could it be that what is hard is to accept some of its ontological implications? Another box issue: the new categorization dept, after an initial rush to clear out categories and set priorities, is bound to come to the Categories/Lists/Navigation boxes issue and when we get there, I think you can be one of our most helpful members. Clearing out this issue will be well worth the Film Barnstar, if not more. Hoverfish Talk 09:25, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

God Speaks#The Birth of Consciousness is written in a concise and clear manner, especially when considering the subject matter. I did not see any problems with it other than an occasional nonstandard capitalization (such as "Infinite ocean" the first time this is mentioned, then "infinite ocean" the second time).
As to navigation boxes to help clear out the film categories issue, I am having two thoughts. One is that the structure should be (at least roughly) based on the organization already present at Lists of films. Another is to look at some of the other entertainment navigation boxes as rough guides and inspirations. For example, I've been admiring the fantasy genre navigational box found on List of fantasy television programs, it is well laid out, attractive and I like the way it sits to the right side of the page, long and narrow. A similar principle could be applied to a navigational box listing film genre lists or a navigational box of films lists by film awards. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 16:07, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Presentationally it's really great. We could use the same format. One thing I like is that it is full of informative articles. If we could put together such class B's as Fantasy film for all our genres (from where lists can branch out), that would make it all much better and justifiable. To just navigate from list to list isn't so interesting, although it can still be very practical. Letting the navigation box inspire us, means letting usability lead the way. And that's a good way to go. I will take a more extended round in the fantasy sector and see what else I can pick. Thanks for pointing it out. Hoverfish Talk 17:27, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. If we can get all our film genre articles into a good form, especially with more features than just the bare list (introductory paragraph, a bit on genre history, a "see also" section, maybe even external links on some) then the navigational boxes would be even more attractive and useful. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 17:32, 3 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Started to work on a genre list navigation, when I came across Template:Lists of films. Check what links here for transclusions. It's been there for a while. It could get to look better, but is its content what you had in mind? Any improvements? Hoverfish Talk 08:58, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you Mermaid from the Baltic Sea!

Thank you for welcoming me to Wikipedia, thoughtful mermaid from the deep Blue Sea. I am very much favourably surprised, awed and respected at your drawing my attention to the article on torture - this is a very important subject.

I love the painting - I appreciate pre-Raphaelite art. In the South Australian Art Gallery there is a notable iconic example of pre-Raphaelite art which I find inspirational and which South Australia is very lucky to own - pity South Australia is so conservative and uninspirational that she feels as though a prisoner here! It is Circe Invidiosa. (But you won't see this painting of the great Circe on the Circe page!) She stands with a bowl of water in her hands in a rocky grotto before the raging green sea, working her magic. Perhaps she should have her own page so that she can be liberated, leave that desolate coastline, and travel wherever she wilt!?--Elizabeth Jane 03:08, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The Five Pillars (Online Game)

First, if you have any question about whether or not that game is legitimate, you can go to www.thefivepillars.org. We have around 1300 active players currently and nearly 72,000 accounts registered total. I put that temporary page up so that the game's community can get the full copy back up. There was extreme reluctance for anyone to actually bite the bullet and create that page, so I went ahead and did it. Here is the story. There was a page for our game up on Wikipedia at one point under The Five Pillars (Computer Game). However, last October, that page was deleted. I had been taking a temporary reprieve from the game, and came back in December. When I did, I found that the wikipedia page had been deleted by another admin. There was no reason stated in the deletion log. Some community members had attempted to revive the page, and the result was that the page now autoreverts whenever it is edited. Since The Five Pillars keeps on growing, I made another page, this time at The Five Pillars (Online Game). There is a private wiki for The Five Pillars, and on there a backup of the wikipedia.org The Five Pillars page was made, in case an event like this happened. I will put up a stub notification on The Five Pillars (Online Game) until someone who can access the file on the private wiki gets my message and copy/pastes the page back onto wikipedia. Once this is done, would it be ok to add a link to The Five Pillars (Online Game) at the top of The Five Pillars of Islam, since The Five Pillars redirects to the latter?

Thank you very much for considering this. Khelvaster 04:19, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've answered on your talk page. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 04:33, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I went ahead and put in a small summary of the game, a link to our main page, and a stub marking on the page. It looks like the reason for deletion was that The Five Pillars was moved onto the page of another game that it is similar too. It was put under section along with other spinoffs (like mrs pacman is a spinoff of pacman. Once a full wikipedia page gets uploaded, is there a chance for The Five Pillars (Online Game) to exist on its own page, with a link from Archmage (Computer Game), or are decisions like these pretty much permenant?
It is impossible to be sure what Wikipedia will allow without testing it in fact, but a pretty good idea of how to write a good article and fight (by the rules) for keeping it can be gleaned from the welcome links I posted to your talk page that you erased (but don't worry, you can find them again by looking at that version of your talk page by clicking on its history tab). Talk header

While your tagging of articles is appreciated, please stop adding the talk header template when it is not needed. On the template's page it clearly states, "This template should be used only when needed. Acculturation can't be forced, and it can be overdone. If the message is on every talk page, its impact will be reduced," (emphasis in original). It also needlessly clutters the talk page.--Supernumerary 22:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need Help

Hi Mermaid! You contacted me on my page and offered help. How do I get the links in my Contents table to link to the appropriate spots on the same page? I.e., I want "See Also" in the Contents table to link to the "See Also" portion of that page.

Thank you!! Stormlady

I've answered on your talk page, with a demonstration too. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 23:30, 21 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mermaid: You left a friendly admonition on my talk page regarding a deletion on the "Rockville, MD" page, but I cannot figure out what the violation is. I have read over the guidelines and couldn't identify the problem. Please go ahead and make the correction, but would you also please give me an update so I don't make the same mistake(s) again? Thanks much.Carlaclaws 01:57, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's just a friendly admonition; a reminder of the posting guidelines that you left on my Talk page. (Sign your postings, leave an edit summary, etc.), but forgive me for being so dense; I'm still trying to figure out what I did wrong. Thanks for your patience.Carlaclaws 02:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DearMaid: Thanks for looking out for mois. I am uncertain about how to chat much less real stuff. How can I redirect to my name page? SOme one else has my name so I am left using my middle intial. But he the other guy steels all my search efforts and noone will find me not knowing my middle inital. Can I have some way to ask is this not the guy you are looking for? then they chose me. He is so famous he has miles of articles on him long before my name appears. I also had a problem with the this (.), if it is not there it won't bring the search to mine. Have created that name without the (.) so I would like to redirect people to the other during search. Ps/ when can I get my action figure..must be cold up there. OOOPS! Mermaid: You commented on my form of responding to prior comments on the discussion page for Sony CISC. While I have changed what I put there to include the four tildes at the end of my own comment (as author), I'm not sure why it was necessary, given that it was a discussion page and not the primary article page, and moreover I had created a section (since removed) titled "The Author Speaks". In any event, I've changed it. Hopefully this will now pass muster. Capedude2005 02:51, 27 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. As you can see, I am new here, but I have been putting a lot of work into creating this entry, as a favor to a friend. I will be searching for notability and citations. In the interim, could you poszsibly leave the content as is, unless you see serious problems. I am still learning, but it would be nice to see the text remain as is for at least a week. Then changes would be welcome. Is that OK? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Stevenwikikaplan (talkcontribs) 08:14, 23 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Sinking Ship!

Boy do I need a Mermaid! You have been very kind and helpfull. I did figure how to deal with the issue of having two of the same name, thank you. I have a big problem tryin to figure how to answere back to people, as you, and only can seems to you, as I don't understand how to place my responce and to whom. I had issues trying to place my first photo on a name page, and actually got it done. Then is was erasd because of copy right issues. I think it was public domain....but some bitty thinks not.... Now I am trying to fill in holes I come across in histories I am writhing and find again dumb clucks so fast to scorn me and erraticate my effort.

So here is my repsonse which is harsh and should be I feel. But I lack were to place it. This for an article or page I created Arri 35 BL. "I am loosing my patients with the small minded people who think they have some authority. I am extremely knowledgible in these areas of which I try to contribute. And while being a novice in contructing these pages, I find this attack bothersome. Almost to a point of walking away. This is HISTORY!! What is important about a given devise is how it impacted the industry and why it worked so well as to to do so. These are instruments from 40 years ago, hardly an advertisment. I alos find this RUSH to jump on these contribution before I even have a chance to finish them. I find the missing whole in a rather round about fashion, working on another page. When I find the empty information on something as impacting as the first reflex camera, I start to work on that, using at first something to create the page and to hold it while I gather my thoughts or do further research to include. Then when I reopen the name page the next morning I find it gone. As I will be soon."

Well it is the way this makes me feel. I think to quit. Thanks --Aeromedia 19:32, 29 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: stinking ship

Thanks again for your clam postion. See you came to me in a gentle maner will to give help rather than just sandbaging my work. I ask you go see what is the issue "baltant advertisment" at arriflex 35BL, where I think like on Panavision it is a history I am speaking on and how that lead to change an industry. I am not promoting their equipment only addressing this as there is no mention of the camera in all this wiki stuff. Makes the sytem rather useless. I come to it to find somenthing out. It is no wonder to me now why there is so little info on things that are of interest to a great many people. I plan not to sign in any more only did now to see if you responded. Thanks Maid --Aeromedia 01:08, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Anthony E Caruso

Did you actually remove Anthony E Caruso, the page I created?

This is a legitimate reference. The website for CSA Group, the company Anthony Caruso is the president is www.csadistribution.com

If you look on that site in the "in the news" section you will see he is a successful entprepreneur who is in this months Entreprenuer Magazine.

He also was in an episode of Friends as a guest of Jennifer Aninston.

Why would you remove this first and ask questions later? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Starsplay (talkcontribs) 03:24, 30 January 2007 (UTC).[reply]

===Further questions from my talk page===

I'm not an administrator, so I didn't personally delete it. Articles tagged as speedy deletion candidates can be deleted by an administrator at any time. The process requires at least two people to look at the article and decide that it is a speedy deletion candidate. As to who you are, see Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for policies concerning creating an article about yourself or editing an article about yourself. As to proper sources, you should note that an article normally needs more than a website for its citations (read Wikipedia:Verifiability). Even if the website contains references to notable citations itself (magazines, books and so on), Wikipedia readers still need notable sources cited within the article itself. Questions from your talk page

I'm seeking guidance because I'm not sure how best to help you and I don't want to step on your toes more than I already have. In the context of what I was saying, "irate" meant "upset." If you aren't upset with me, I apologize for using that word. Also, "sources" means sources according to Wikipedia:Verifiability, which usually doesn't include websites. If you are having trouble adding non-website sources, then consider adding a references section (use ==References== to make the title) with the actual references listed in APA style or MLA Style. Try looking at some other articles in order to see how it is done. If you'd like to also list websites (websites usually aren't considered sources for the purpose of verification) then you could try adding an external links section too. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 04:25, 30 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks....im still confused over one final point....so if i direcltly link the entrepreneur mag article as well as the others....i still should not add myself. but someone else can right about me with the same sources?

My Fabio Holanda Page

Slow down and smell the roses

How's everything? Just wanted to bring to your attention that twice in the past few minutes I have tagged an article and gotten an edit conflict posting a warning to a user's talk page (which like many newpages patrollers I do for every article I tag), to find that you had done so (the latter warning I was personalizing). I feel strongly, as I suspect you do, that all users whose articles are tagged for speedy deletion should receive a warning, but please wait a minute or two before warning users about articles someone else has tagged.--Fuhghettaboutit 04:41, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

sockpuppet case

Mermaid, I noticed your note on my talk page and corrected the case. Do things look right to you now? --Akhilleus (talk) 00:15, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, except that there should be a space between "Snake" and "Solid" on User:Solid Snake999 and it looks like "User" was repeated twice in the title. Otherwise, it's fabulous. Much better than I could do - I'm really confused about that template. Thank you. Mermaid from the Baltic Sea 00:19, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
