{{u|Leonporter}} replaced uses of "actress" in this article with "actor". Is there concensus for this surprising change? What's the motivation? I don't think there's any MOS on Wikipedia that suggests using the masculine term for females. -- [[User:Mikeblas|Mikeblas]] ([[User talk:Mikeblas|talk]]) 22:34, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

:Hi Mikeblas, I did that so the article would conform to the Wikipedia Manual of Style's gender-neutral language guidelines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#Gender-neutral_language). They say to use gender-neutral terms whenever that can be done with clarity and precision. "Actor" is a gender-neutral term, not exclusively masculine. (You can check Webster's or any recent dictionary to verify this.) And using "actor" doesn't reduce clarity or precision. Actor not actress?

Leonporter replaced uses of "actress" in this article with "actor". Is there concensus for this surprising change? What's the motivation? I don't think there's any MOS on Wikipedia that suggests using the masculine term for females. -- Mikeblas (talk) 22:34, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
